Chapter 3

ROBERTA JENSEN WAS HOLDING a bouquet of flowers when she stepped out of the elevator and still walked with a slight limp. The off-duty and the newly promoted Sergeant passed by a female Black butch janitor mopping the floor — she was in her own world, listening to gangsta music on her headphones. Roberta stopped at the nurse's desk...

"Roberta, how have you been? How are you healing?"

"I am doing fine, Nurse Eker — (and you?) — I came by to see Laura."

"Okay, sign here — by the way, your cousin is inside."

"What?"

"Your cousin — Norah."

Roberta finally heard her name for the first time — the virulent stalker was back. She now feared for Laura's safety — and left the flowers on the nurses' desk — before pulling out her pistol, rushing over to her sister's side.

Nurse Eker was in consternation after seeing the big gun drawn — she backed away, and held the visitor's sign-in file towards her chest...

'What is going to happen now? Another murder?'

The old nurse had always known of the protective Roberta, being arbitrary in action, with anything in regards to Laura — the evidence was when she stepped into the bloodbath wardroom twelve years ago, to discover the trodden skull of a dead janitor — the handiwork of a raging, ten-year-old girl back then...

Now, Roberta, the cop had capriciously left her to be at Laura's side again, with a gun in her hand...

The nurse immediately alerted the hospital security department.

Voices and images of the pale-faced girl reflected inside Roberta's head, while she took floppy steps forward. She attempted to move faster but with the discomfort of her injuries, made it seemed like a long walk to her sister's wardroom...

Big Manny's voice was reminding aloud in her head...

'Hey Robbie, that girl is just thirteen, and she has been on the streets for more than two weeks — I can't let her go missing again.'

Roberta too recalled clearly seeing the albino girl at the police headquarters on the day she received her bravery medal. But, the Lolita hooker slipped away, just like the night of the shooting at the dumpster with her pimps — where she disappeared through the broken wooden fence after saying...

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

'Don't fight them, please come with me!'

But she returned again, and shot dead the Black pimp twice in the head before she vanished again — she had come back again later, to taunt the past with the old newspaper cutting on the bathroom mirror — reminding her of the past killing of Laura's rapist, twelve years ago — and the girl was also the same perpetrator in that dark bedroom, who had even left love-bites all over her body — it baffled the hero-cop...

'Who is this stalker — and, what does she want now?'

Roberta's hand slowly opened the door — and pointed her Magnum hand-cannon in, before stepping inside the wardroom. She checked around and saw Laura was fine, with the two other comatose patients sharing the same floor space.

The albino girl was nowhere around.

Roberta returned her gun into her holster, inside her leather jacket, and went over — she stroked Laura's hair, relieved that she was unharmed.

Roberta set her eyes on the photo collage on the corkboard on the wall, besides Laura's bed — and distinguished some odd newspaper cuttings, stuck with headlines...

'COP KILLS 4 GANG MEMBERS,' — and the other...

'CORY AWARDS COP HERO PCC MEDAL'

The ghost-girl was confirmed here — Roberta shuddered internally by her lack of control of the daunting imposition situation — and again, for Laura's safety.

She ripped the printed papers strips from the wall and stuffed it into her jacket pocket. She turned around quickly, when she was distracted by the opening door — and spotted two women, security guards entering.

Roberta stormed back to the nurse's desk, with the guards following her. She declaimed in front of the older woman for the breach of security on the floor...

"Nurse Eker — that girl, where is she? Did she pass by here?"

"No, isn't she there?"

The senior nurse felt intimidated by Sergeant Roberta Jensen's aggression, by yelling out, despite she was in a hospital...

"Why did you let a stranger, come near Laura?"

"But, she is your cousin — isn't she?"

The overwhelmed nurse responded, and also feared, if Roberta filed a lawsuit against the hospital — then, she could lose her job. Roberta was clearly disconcerting her, with more questions...

"Nurse Eker, how long have you known me — do I have a fucking cousin? All these years, it is just me and Aunt Flo who visits Laura — there is no one else, right?"

Roberta's cell phone buzzed at that moment — the old nurse was relieved when it happened, so it would preoccupy the irked cop momentarily...

"Yeah, what!!? (err...) yes, Lieutenant, yes...hmm, yes... (okay yes...) and I will come over now, Sir...okay."

Roberta turned back her focus to Nurse Eker — but, she had toned down her voice...

"Nurse Eker, please be vigilant. There should be no visitors at all for Laura, other than that Aunt Flo — I got to go now."

Roberta had wanted to inspect the CCTV security recordings on the wardroom floors, she was sure she would spot that slippery albino-bitch escaping. She wanted to nab her on her own during the intrusion — but for now, duty called —she had pressing priorities from Captain Miller, who assigned her to lead a team to back-up the SWAT team — in the raiding a Christian run orphanage.

Roberta walked to the hospital parking lot, as she lit a smoke and got on her antique, Harley Sportster bike. The albino girl looked from above, out of a window from a higher floor — noticing her hero cop speeding away.
