Chapter 23

THE SCHOOL BELL RANG and female students were leaving the building. A few dykes in biker-leather jackets stepped out. Roberta was tagging along with the older girls. She had the gang associated emblem sewn on her jacket like the rest — they were joking and were into puerile jostles.

Other school girls stepped aside — feeling intimidated by these growing dyke groups amidst, proclaimed themselves proudly as the 'neo-males' ...

Just like seen in that NBC's 'Funerals' show franchise, which was popular on TV worldwide —which will be cancelled soon once the last male was networked to be dead on the earth.

Y.T. and another fellow, school-dropout gang member came running to them at the front gate — and told of a rival gang attack that was happening nearby, a few blocks away — it made all of the 'neo-males' in the black-leather jackets run wildly into the street.

The ten-year-old Roberta followed her peers from behind. She ran with the pack — but the fat-girl was the last amongst them to reach the back alley of a street. Seeing ahead, Roxy Gillman and a couple of their gang members were in a fistfight affray with a rival Latina butch gang, that was made up of older girls in their late teens.

The black-leather-jacket cavalry had come to the rescue of Roxy Gillman — while Roberta froze behind with hesitation to join in. She had never been involved in any gang-related brawls before, other than beating up bullies of her age back in her former school in Wellsville, Utah— those bullies were just punk boys who thought they could put her in her place among the majority of the weaker sex of the doll-playing girls...

But what Roberta was witnessing now in Columbus, was a different ball game — of older girls and women beating the bejesus out of each other.

The bleeding Roxy Gillman was lambasted with the rain of blows by two tough, Hispanic female, street-bangers. One of them then locked Roxy's arms from the back, while the other flipped out a switch-blade...

The Latina approached menacingly towards her helpless rival...

Roxy's face was in fearful consternation because she could not break free from the grip behind...

The dreadful blade was just a few steps away from stabbing her...

The young Roberta stood contemplating among some of the disconcerted onlookers of the neighbourhood. She then picked up her courage, seeing her blood-buddy in the peril of death. Roberta bent to grab a rock nearby...

She dashed forward and smashed the side of the head of the Latina dyke with the switch-blade — blood splattered, the Hispanic neo-male gangbanger dropped down incognizant on the tarmac, with a serious concussion.

The place was dark with broken roof tiles that streamed hard rays of sunlight inside — Roxy Gillman's gang was nursing their wounds and injuries in that old abandoned warehouse. Their black jackets were ripped and stained with their rivals' blood all over. A bottle of cheap liquor and a reefer joint was passed around...

The majority of wild neo-male dykes were laughing away, celebrating their gang victory.

Roxy went forward and hugged Roberta for saving her life and commended her to the rest — the ten-year-old from the small town of Wellsville finally earned her stripes in Columbus, city of Ohio...

The initiation into the gang was one of the proudest moments of her life since then.
