Sakura sighs and lays her head on her desk. The school bell has ring, signaling the beginning of lunch period. The boy named Sora has not returned and Sakura felt quite apologetic towards the boy. If she has known earlier, she would not have uttered such ignorant words.
“Sakura.” Her neighbor called.
Sakura glanced at her neighbor who had said that her name was Chiyo. She was a short girl and a little on the chubby side. Some of her blue hair was tie up while the rest fall gently on her back. She was also the one who had informed her of Sora’s circumstances.
Chiyo smile and invited, “Sakura, let’s go eat at the dining hall.”
Sakura cock her head to the side in confusion.
There is a dining hall in this school? We do not eat in the cafeteria.
Although she knew the school was high class, the reality of her living a noble life has not sink in yet. She was used to her common cafeteria in a middle class school. During the first week she was in this world, she was taught etiquettes on table manner. However, she was still not as good as these so-called “nobles.”
“Itsuki-sensei said that you had amnesia. You probably forgot a lot of things so I will help show you around.” Chiyo explained. (I change Professor Itsuki to Itsuki-sensei because it’s easier for me to write.)
Another girl in the class walk towards them and added, “Besides, we’re friends. I can’t believe you forgot about us.”
Sakura study the sudden girl before her. The girl who had approached Chiyo and her was quite tall and muscular for a teenage girl. Her skin was tan from being out in the sun. It was a noteworthy point of her that makes her stand out from the other girls. Most girls in the institute had pale skin as white as snow. As aristocrats, most of the girl cherish their pale skin and would rather stay indoor than outdoor. The girl hair was a mix of orange and brown. Her hair was tie into a long ponytail that extends to her waist. She had a pair of sharp emerald eyes that seem to glare at her prey.
The girl introduced, “Oh, if you can’t remember, my name is Haruka.”
“I’m sorry to have forgotten about you.” Sakura apologized.
Haruka shook her head and grinned, “It’s okay, we can just get to know each other all over again!”
Although Sakura did not know who Chiyo and the other girl were, she was grateful to have friends in this life. It reminded her of her best friend Reiko, which made her a little teary. At the same time, it made her feel even more remorse at stealing the original owner’s life.
Chiyo was just about to say something, but was interrupt when a crowd of students joins in their conversation. Many began to introduce themselves and ask how it was like to lose one memory. Sakura was overwhelm by their questions, and her two “new” friends had to step in to stop the commotion. Haruka shouts at them to back off but the others only laugh at her.
While everyone was talking, Sakura scan the classroom to take a better look of her classmates. She got off her chair and Chiyo pulls her over to Chiyo. Sakura only heard Chiyo said something about heading to lunch when her steps stop mid-way. Her sight landed on a familiar male’s back. She did not know who he was, but her chest had a small ache, quite similar to the feeling she had for Yu. A quick image passes her mind, causing a headache. She places her hand on a nearby desk to stop herself from collapsing.
Just seeing the male back made her head hurts from pain. She did not know who the male was, but his figure made her recall something.
“Who is,” She mumbled, “…Mo…Ru?”
Her two friends saw her sudden state and asked worriedly, “What’s wrong Sakura? Does your head hurt?”
Sakura shook her head to get the pain out of her head. Another image of the man’s back flash in her mind. Only this time, she saw a scene of him walking through a path filled with cherry blossom trees. The male turn his head sideway and glance up at the pink flowers. His face was blurry because Sakura could not recall his image well.
“Cherry Blossom. How beautiful.” He muttered.
His words had been carry by the wind and reaches Sakura’s ears. The beautiful image of the male surrounded by cherry blossoms seems like a painting. As soon as Sakura recall the scene, there were butterflies in her stomach.
Ah! It hurts!
She flinches as the sudden memory end. She tries to remember if there was anything more but the memories no longer came flooding in. Sakura search for the male who she just saw in her memory. The male had wavy black hair that reaches his pale neck. She inch forward to see his face but her friend Haruka block her view. She knew the scene she saw was not her own. This made her curious of the male’s appearance, because it had triggered a memory from the original owner.
What does his face look like?
Who was this male?
Is he important to the Sakura from before?
When Haruka moves her head aside, the male had already exit the classroom. Somehow, she wanted to follow the male. She thought that it might make her remember more things related to the original Sakura. However, she stops herself because her two friends were panicking and asking her if she was all right. The students were also crowding around her, as if they can see a good show.
“Are you okay? Where does it hurt?” Chiyo asked.
Seeing them look so worried made her heart warm. She answered, “I’m okay, just a slight headache.”
“Will you be able to go to the dining hall?” Chiyo asked.
Sakura nodded, “Yes, I’m fine now.”
“Your face is a little pale. I think it’s best to take you to the infirmary. Chiyo and I will bring you your lunch.” Haruka offered.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
Sakura wanted to refuse but stop when she saw her friends’ stern gaze. Therefore, the two led her to the infirmary. The nurse was not present but they proceed into the room anyway. The two force her to sleep on the bed, and they pull the curtains so that the other students will not disturb her.
“Rest here, Haruka and I will quickly go get you something to eat.” Chiyo said.
“Thanks.”
“No problem.” Harkua smiled.
The room was eerily silent when her two friends were gone. Sakura open the curtains to look at the room. When she first steps in, she was surprise at how spacious the room was. There were more than ten beds for the sick students. The white room made her feels nauseous so she was thankful there were the brown cabinets. The cabinets were filled with glass-looking potions and magic-related items. There was also a brown desk, near the cabinet, that had scattered paperwork.
This is a school for the aristocrat.
Whenever Sakura see a new room or building in the school, the fact of her being an aristocrat keep popping up. She will never get use to this lifestyle. She missed her old and comfortable home with her loving parents. She missed the constant nagging her mother gave her. She missed the strict father who rarely let her go out. Her new mother was kind and caring, but it was not the same. Her extravagant house was too big for her taste, and the only people that surrounds her was the maids and butler. The house is too quiet. It feels like living in a stranger house, as if she was adopted into a new family. Her new life had many new things that she did not have before: attractive figure and rich family. However, she would trade all of it as long as she can return to her old life. Nevertheless, she knew that she could not return. What will she have left when she return? She knew she was already dead.
While lying in her bed reminiscing about her past, a certain scene came flowing back to her. It was so vivid and realistic that Sakura could not help but feel that she herself was present at that moment. Unknown to her, her heart has begun to race faster when she recall the husky and deep voice said, “Cherry Blossom, how beautiful.” (Cherry Blossom A.K.A Sakura)
It was funny how she feels butterflies and headaches at the same time because of memory. Even now, she could feel the aftermath of her headache. Thinking about her headache made her feel bad for making her friends bring her food.
I should have lie that I already ate!
But just as she though this, she wanted to smack her head for her stupidity.
I was in class the whole day with them! When did I have the time to eat before them?
She sighs once more before tossing and turning to get into a better position to sleep. Just as she closes her eyes, she heard people’s voices and footsteps coming closer to the room. Without thinking, she pulls the curtains to cover herself. She herself did not know why, but she feel embarrass at the thought of others seeing her sleep.
She heard the door open and a female voice, “Sit here, I will help you heal it.”
Sakura believe she had heard the voice somewhere but she could not remember where. She heard some noises. It sounds as if someone was push away.
Did the girl’s patient not want treatment?
“Wait! My light magic can heal you!” The owner of the voice explained.
The female said hesitantly after, “Although I have not perfect my light magic yet.”
This female voice is very soft and soothing. Almost like...Emiko?
Sakura did not want to eavesdrop but she feels like it was already too late to show herself. She was in the room first, and it was not her fault to hear the two students’ conversation. Yet, she feels like she was committing a crime. She even lowers the sound of her breathing so that she will not be notice. To her, it sounds as if a romance scene was occurring.
“I don’t need your help.” A male retorted in a cold voice.
Although the male said so, he did not get out of the room. Instead, the two students got silent and Sakura could not help but want to know. The girl was treating the male with her light magic. Since Sakura was still clueless on anything related to magic, she did not know how rare light magic was. What she did know, however, was that the girl treating the male’s injury.
After some silence, the girl explained, “I’m going to wrap your hand in bandages. I’m just a beginner at magic so I cannot help much. But at least I stop most of the bleeding!”
The male continue to be silent, making Sakura wonder why he did not thank her. It was common sense to thank the person who helps you. Yet it sounds like the male was unhappy at the situation he was in.
Why are you not replying! She is not talking to air!
Sakura wanted to come out and shout at him but did not do so. As stated before, Sakura was a timid person and would rather not draw attention to herself.
When the male did not reply, the girl softly asked, “What made you injured your hand? Was it your older brother-”
“Shut up!” The male shouted.
The chair screeched and Sakura could hear footsteps moving around. The male had abruptly stood up so the chair was push away.
“What I do is none of your business! I never ask you to heal me.” He growled.
Without another word, the door swing open and was slam shut.
“Wait!” The girl called.
She opens the door and chase after him. Sakura heard a loud crash outside and then some apologies follow afterward.
“I’m sorry. Please excuse me.” The girl apologized.
“What was that all about?” A new person asked.
“I don’t know, but it seem like she was chasing after Sora.” Another answered.
“Maybe something juicy happened?” The first one suggested.
“Let’s just ask Sakura.”
When Sakura hears her name, she sat up and slowly open the curtains. Chiyo was standing next to Haruka with a tray of food in her hands.
“So what happen?” Haruka asked.
They walk over and hand Sakura the tray of food. Sakura accept the plate but was confuse of Haruka question.
“What do you mean?” She asked.
“Weren’t you in the room? Haruka was asking if you know what happen between Emiko and Sora.” Chiyo explained.
Sakura shook her head and replied, “Nothing happen, Emiko was just treating Sora’s injury-Wait, Sora! The wolf guy?”
Haruka laughs when Sakura exclaimed “wolf guy.”
Chiyo giggled, “That’s funny Sakura. Yes, Sora is a wolf demon.”
The word “demon” was not process in Sakura’s mind since Chiyo quickly asked, “Was that really it? If all Emiko did was help him, why did he storm out of the room?”
“I did not see any injury on him.” Haruka said.
“She’s a light magic user.” Chiyo pointed out, as if it was an obvious fact.
Haruka grin and apologize, “Oops, I forgot.”
The two of them left the nurse office door open when they came in. Two male students enters and made the three girls stop their conversation.
“Damn, that Sora just had to smash the mirror in the restroom. Who does he think he is?” A blonde male complained.
“Just shut up. It’s not like you can beat him in a fight.” His friend said.
“That damn wolf had been in a bad mood lately. But what reason did he have to hit the mirror for?” He pouted.
From the gist of the conversation, Sakura’s trio understands why Sora was injured. Sora had smashed the boys’ restroom mirror so his hand got injured. But why did he do it? A though came to Sakura and she shuddered.
Is he still mad at what I say? Did he imagine me as the mirror?
Her face pale but she quickly discards the thought.
Didn’t Emiko mention something about his older brother?
When she searches for a deeper reason for Sora’s actions, she shook her head. There was no need to dive deeper into his life. After all, Sora was just a classmate and she doubt that she will become his friend. Sakura wants a peaceful life with no stress. After remembering the reason for her death, she promises herself not to be too involved with others, especially good-looking males. Even though she did not interact much with Yu, he was part of the reason that led her to where she was now. Just remembering Yu makes her heartaches.
“Sakura.”
The handsome male would smile and called her sweetly. Now that she was no longer with him, she cannot deny that he was not the one she liked. She had a crush on him but was too shy to admit it. Now everything is already too late. If she could turn back time, she would have confess her feelings to him. She sigh and told herself to stop thinking about it.
Sakura ignore the two males and silently eat her meal. Her two friends notice her sour moods so they did not say much. She was grateful because she feels like she was being very annoying to them. Her first day of school had not been successful so far.
