Security Breach: Extended Family (Part 4)

"What happened to you, Hopstar?"
Rex looked up and wiped his eyes, trying to stop his sniffling. He hugged the plush bonnie in his hands while looking up at the real thing kneeling down in front of him. The little boy hadn't thought anyone would find him here in this little tucked away corner of the pizzaplex. His bright red eyes were watching Rex intently as he waited for an answer. Gulping, and feeling really shy in front of the big blue bunny, Rex looked down at his glamrock Bonnie-themed light-up sneakers.
"I-I don't wanna go home, Mister Bonnie..." The child's voice was a whisper with the odd squeak to it.
"Oh? Why not?" Bonnie asked, concern evident in his mechanical voice.
"... Today's my birthday... and Daddy can't be here to celebrate it with me..." Rex wiped at his eyes and sniffed again as he spoke.
"You just turned six, right?" Rex's eyes snapped up at that, amazed that the animatronic had accurately guessed his age. "Well happy birthday, Hopstar!" Bonnie reached into the little corner between the two Roxy Racing arcade cabinets where Rex had wedged himself, to ruffle his hair. "And I'm sorry that your Dad can't be here today. But I'm sure that he would if he could. He seemed to enjoy bringing you here last year for our concert."
Rex couldn't believe it.
"Y-you... remember me?"
"I sure do! I remember how after the show, you wanted our autographs so badly on all of your little plushes of us... but when you got to me, you decided to hide behind your father's leg a bit."
Rex frowned and pouted a bit at that, blushing a little.
"I-I wasn't hiding!"
Bonnie chuckled and gently picked the boy up and stood up with him in his arms, being very gentle as he started to walk.
"You're right. That's my mistake, buddy! I meant to say that you didn't want your Dad to feel left out, so you thought you'd give him a little push to get my autograph, right?"
"Yeah!" Rex smiled, matching the seemingly perpetual one on Bonnie's faceplate.
"I also remembered your name, Ryan," Bonnie said, chuckling as he saw the tyke cross his arms and begin pouting again. "And I remembered that you prefer to be called Rex."
"'Cause T-Rexes are awesome!" Rex practically cheered. Bonnie felt his servos warm at just how much happier Rex was now compared to when he was crying by himself.
"Now, how about we go back to where I see you have your birthday party scheduled?"
He took note of how Rex curled up a bit and leaned into him.
"Do we have to?" Rex asked, speaking softly again. Bonnie's ears began to droop a bit.
"Well, I know that you're Mom is really worried..."
"... But... Uncle Jack is there... and he's scary..."
Bonnie made a digital note of that and filed it away for later. "Well, how about I join you for your special day then?"
Rex once more brightened up, now squeezing his little stuffed Bonnie tight to his chest. "Really?!"
"Yup!"
"Daddy's never gunna believe this! I wish he wasn't too sick to come to my party!"
Bonnie kept walking to the party room highlighted in his H.U.D.'s mini map, but he made another digital note for later usage. Nearing the door, and feeling the young boy in his arms tense up, he could hear a loud male voice, even through the closed door.
"This is what I'm talking about, Lisa! The boy's undisciplined and just runs off whenever he pleases."
"Jack, you scared him, and he's just a little boy. Of course he ran!" Now he heard the woman's voice, immediately recognizing her as Rex's mother.
"He needs to stop dancing around with the girls in gymnastics and start learning how to act like a man!"
"Jack, enough! I'm going to go find Rex, and we're going to have a happy birthday party with or without you!"
"Fine, whatever."
The door opened and a woman with shoulder-length blonde hair had to stop before running into Bonnie.
"O--OH!" Lisa said, clearly not having expected to see her son in the arms of a big blue animatronic bunny that towered over her a little.
"H-hi, Mommy," Rex said while giving a little sheepish wave. Lisa was quick to take him from the robot, looking a little worried and taking a moment to check him for any possible injuries. Bonne wasn't bothered by that, though. She was just making sure he was okay, which in turn made him happy to see.
"Rex, don't you ever run off like that again! Do you understand, mister?" Lisa gave him a quick hug before setting him down to begin chastising him. Rex looked down at his shoes and hugged his plush while nodding.
"I'm sorry."
Lisa's stern expression quickly softened, a small smile forming as she picked Rex back up, and looked towards Bonnie.
"Thank you for finding Rex and bringing him back."
"It was not a problem, Mrs. Kellman! When I got a notification that the Hopstar here ran off, I decided to help in the search for him. I'm glad that he's safe and sound."
"'Scuse me," a gruff voice said, brusquely moving past Lisa and Bonnie. The blue bunny turned to see a man with dark hair tucked under a baseball cap, wearing a red polo and khaki shorts, angrily stomping away, a large gift wrapped in bright green wrapping paper tucked under one arm. Bonnie's eyes narrowed as he took several high definition pictures to store for later.
"Wh-where's Uncle Jack going?" Rex asked, looking up at his Mom with wide eyes. She gave him a reassuring smile in return.
"He just remembered... that he had something very important to take care of at his work. Sorry, sweetie."
"It's okay, Mommy!"
"Now, I know that it's just... the two of us right now, but we can still have a real fun birthday party for my special little man, right?" Lisa tried to sound excited, though looking past her, Bonnie could see a mostly empty party room, with a chocolate cake that was more on the small side, with a few balloons and streamers strewn about, and three wrapped presents sitting next to the cake on the blue and red table.
"Actually, Mrs. Kellman?" Bonnie drew her and Rex's attention.
"Uh... y-yes?" Lisa was skeptical about talking with a machine.
"I just wanted to let you know that your Basic birthday party package has been upgraded to the Deluxe package! Free of charge!"
"Wh-what?!" Lisa's jaw dropped open, causing Rex to giggle a little. Bonnie simply smiled, a mischievous twinkle in his red glowing eyes that Rex saw.
"The deluxe package comes with a customizable, ready to order cake baked by our helpful kitchen S.T.A.F.F. bots. Any flavor, any design, all at the customer's request. It also includes unlimited, for today, pizzas that are also ready to order at a moment's notice. It also comes with a special voucher redeemable at all of our gift shops, 1,000 credits of free play at any of our arcade games... and the animatronic of your choice gets to spend the day entertaining the lucky birthday child!"
Lisa was flabbergasted, while Rex slowly started to approach, his eyes wide and sparkling in amazement. "Thank... you?"
"Wow! R-really?" Bonnie knelt down and held out his pinky finger.
"Yup! If you want, as of right now my only priority is making sure you have a happy birthday, Hopstar."

Slowly reaching out, Rex smiled and wrapped his own pinky around the blue bunny's, all while Lisa started snapping pictures, tears in her eyes while she smiled, seeing the look of pure joy and awe on her son's face.
Back to the present...
"Hopstar?"
"Huh?" Rex looked around, finding himself in Bonnie's arms, being gently rocked. Feeling safe and warm in the soft and fuzzy blue faux fur covering the bunny's arms, Rex decided he liked the upgrade.
"Looked like you were waking up. After how tired you seemed, I decided that it was best to just let you rest." Bonnie explained. Looking around, Rex saw that they were in Bonnie Bowl.
"Thanks... but why not just leave me in the daycare's nap room then?" Rex asked, blushing a bit.
"Well, I thought that maybe Moon might frighten you a little bit after all the running around tonight. Also, it's been years since I got to hug you, Hopstar! So I kinda wanted to enjoy it as much as possible."
"Pfft! Moon doesn't scare me," Rex said while puffing out his chest a bit. "Sneaking around during the daytime, I've seen them singing lullabies to the little kids they put down for their naps. Kinda hard to find them scary after that!"
"Is that so? Well then, I'll be sure to let them know that for your new schedule." Bonnie's smile widened as he gave the boy in his arms a gentle squeeze.
"Huh? What schedule? You mean my nightly rounds? 'Cause... y'know, I still AM the night security guard."
"Yeah... about that..." Bonnie's ears started to droop, cluing the boy into knowing that whatever Bonnie wanted to talk to him about was going to be a bit rough.
"Bonnie? What's wrong?"
Bonnie looked away, his glowing red eyes now filled with concern.
"Rex... since becoming the Night Security Guard, have you actually been to school?" Rex looking away was answer enough for the bunny. "And I've seen that little alcove you've made for yourself to sleep in, buddy. That's actually really not safe to go sleeping in there."
"I-it's fine," Rex started to argue, squirming a little in Bonnie's arms. Bonnie simply adjusted Rex so that he was now even more securely being held, looking him in the eyes.
"Rex, I'm sorry, but no it isn't. You keep the door propped open, but if it ever shut with you in there while asleep, you could easily asphyxiate! Also, your sleeping is sporadic, you sneak scraps and leftovers from the food court, you're missing school, and you're so thin for a boy your age."
Rex whined and hung his head, feeling overwhelmed. Bonnie rocking him in his arms helped him to calm down a bit, but he still felt a sense of dread after having it all listed out like that in the open.
"But it's going to be okay... because now you have us to help take care of you."
Blushing a bit, Rex squirmed a little.
"I c-can take care of m-myself! I'm not a baby!"
Bonnie started to hum the glamrocks' theme song as he continued to rock his arms.
"I know you're not a baby, Hopstar. But that doesn't change the fact that you are still too young to be looking after yourself. I know that maybe this is a little hard to hear, but you're going to have a proper bedtime. We're also going to make sure that you are eating right, and exercising regularly. You'll also be getting regular checkups and be going to school. That last bit could possibly be virtually, depending on how we get things set up."
Rex was taken aback. He had been expecting maybe something more... strict. But instead, all of these rules so far had sounded pretty reasonable.
"And the best part is... you'll be getting your own room! A proper bedroom that the S.T.A.F.F. bots should be just about finished setting up."
"Huh?" Rex asked, not having been expecting this little nugget of information.
Bonnie smiled cheerfully and stood up, heading out of Bonnie Bowl and towards Rockstar Row.
"It turns out that there's a LOT of rooms unused that aren't on any of the plex's blueprints. And being so tucked away and hidden, no one else seems to know about them. So you, Gregory, Cassie, and Amy will each be getting your own. And as it just so happens, there's actually a few hidden behind our rooms on the Row!" Rex looked into the open window of the still-renovating Glamrock Bonnie room, with bots moving furniture around and even painting the walls his blue and red color scheme. Walking right past the door to his own room, Bonnie carefully, and with one hand, picked up a plastic fern in the corner.
Waving his hand in a specific pattern, there were a series of clicks and the seam to a door suddenly formed right in front of the boy and the bot's eyes. It opened with a sudden WOOSH, with the interior quickly lighting up. The walls were all a bare white, with some shelves and a simple dresser set up against the far wall. Near the door was a bed, bright and colorful as it displayed Bonnie rocking out on stage.
"Now I know that it's a little sparse right now, but we all figured, when each of you is up to it, you can all have a say in how you design your own rooms."
Rex was silent, staring off almost in a trance as he looked at the spartan room. Bonnie was just starting to worry when Rex whipped himself around and threw both of his arms around the bunny's neck.
"Thank you!" Rex whispered, earning him a kiss to his forehead.
"Always, Hopstar, always."
Elsewhere in the pizzaplex...
"Now Gregory, Cassie, do you two remember what we agreed on?" Freddy asked the two children who were both riding on his shoulders. Gregory sitting on his left and Cassie on his right. Ahead of them in the darkened room was Roxanne, her eyes glowing with a golden yellow light as she looked around. Freddy was shining a faz-flashlight around, not that the animatronic wolf needed it.
"That we're not to go exploring any of the tunnels, or the vents, or any of the new areas without an animatronic with us to supervise?" Cassie recited, earning her a pat on the head.
"Correct, Roxstar!" Freddy said with a smile, happy to hear the girl's giggle.
"Aw, c'mon! Where's the fun in that?" Gregory groaned, only to have his hair tousled by the animatronic bear.
"Now, now, Gregory. There's still plenty of ways to have fun that don't potentially put yourself in danger."
Walking by a blue-green table with an umbrella sticking through the center, they continued to look around.
"I think I found the light switch!" Roxie called out to them, sounding quite a bit away. A few seconds passed by before the overhead fluorescent lights flickered to life. Soon the entire area was lit up to reveal that they were in a massive indoor pool area. They were by some tables and poolside lounging chairs, next to the dry and empty pool, the rim of which flickered on to reveal pin neon lights encircling it.
Over where Roxanne was there was a snack bar, best described as neon-tiki in theme, with plenty of stools and more covered tables near it. Near the far wall was some kind of water slide play structure, full of loud colors and plenty of twists and turns and plastic wooden bridges. And painted on one wall was a mural depicting all of the glamrocks, as well as several other unknown characters, all playing about in the pool, while a prominently displayed otter with blonde hair tied into a short side-ponytail, wearing a red one-piece swimsuit, stood smiling with her paws on her hips. Above her head, in blue and green lettering, stated that they were now in Olivia Otter's Wild Water Park.
"Who's Olivia Otter?" Cassie asked, looking around with Gregory in amazed wonder.
"Hmm... the name does come up a few times in my memory bank... but I cannot find any kind of a profile on an animatronic of that name." Freddy's ears drooped as he sounded disappointed. "That is unfortunate. I always love getting to make new friends..."
"Maybe all of those other characters in the mural were also supposed to be animatronics introduced at a later time?" Gregory wondered aloud, his flashlight shining on two shorter ones, both red pandas, one wearing green swim trunks and a pair of goggles, the other, a girl he supposed, wearing a one-piece frilly pink swimsuit and large pink-rimmed sunglasses, taking a selfie. Seeing the two smaller animatronics sparked a memory in the boy's mind.
"Huh... I wonder if this is what all those endoskeletons below us were for?"
"Wait... what endoskeletons?" Roxy asked, having walked back over to them to scoop Cassie off of Freddy's shoulder and give her a piggyback ride herself.
"Oh... right..." Freddy began to rub the back of his head, looking embarrassed. "I may have... forgotten to mention that bit of Gregory's exploration of the basement to look for spare parts... apparently there's a few endoskeletons down there that seem to be functional..."
"If by functional you mean they move when you don't look at them! They kept all trying to get me! But... I do remember there being two smaller ones down there too..."
Freddy and Roxy shared a look, the wolf quirking an eyebrow as she relayed all of this new information to the others via the glamchat, including some of the pics she internally took of the new pool area.
Chica: ... OMG! Does this mean we can have even more new friends? OH! Who could even help us make sure that the kids stay safe and unnoticed by the human staff?
Sun: That would be wonderful! The more the merrier, I always say!
Moon: Sunny, you did read the part about them chasing Gregory in the dark, right?
Sun: Well, imagine if you'd been down in the basement and suddenly a little one appeared down there, with all the dangerous machinery and parts all over! They were probably just trying to help him find his way back out!
Eclipse: That does make sense to me.
Moon: GAH! Please stop agreeing with Sun! You're only going to encourage him... like with the glue stick incident...
Sun: Oh, hush now. It really wasn't that bad! Besides, I'm sure that those children enjoyed their new haircuts they most certainly had to get after their parents picked them up!
Eclipse: ...
Moon: ... See what I mean?
Monty: Well, we got us some strong bots and some Faz-Wrenches. I say we lure 'em out one by one, hold 'em down and reset 'em, and then take 'em to parts and services.
Chica: Why take them there?
Monty: Remember that kinda-hidden storage room I accidentally walked into after I got my checkup?
Chica: Yeah! The one you said was stacked floor to ceiling with boxes?
Monty: Well, I went back and looked in there shortly after I took Amy in, 'cause she decided to play hide and seek in there. Anyways, I looked in some of the boxes, and I found a bunch of different spare parts, including faceplates and such. And I know for a fact I saw one that looks a lot like that Olivia Otter gal's faceplate.
Bonnie: Oh wow! So we can give them proper bodies? I say let's do it!
Chica: So with Me, Monty, Bonnie, Sunny, and Eclipse, that's five in favor of helping out our fellow animatronics!
Monty: Hey wait...
Freddy: Yes, Monty?
Monty: Where's Amy? I'm looking through the Daycare cams and don't see her.
Sunny: Oh no! We'll start a search immediately!
Chica: Calm down everyone! She's here with me in my room! We're giving each other make-overs!
Moon: Chica, we prefer to be asked first before you come and take a child we're watching, especially after I put them down for a nap.
Chica: I didn't take her! She just snuck into my room all by herself after I went and... didn't trick the kitchen bots into baking me another pizza...
Roxy: Chiiiiiicaaaa!
Chica: >.<
Monty: Oh yeah, forgot to mention that my li'l swamp princess kinda tends ta wander off from time ta time.
Roxy: ... Okay, all that aside, are we all in agreement about the plan to reset the endos and see if we can have them fully assembled?
Freddy: It looks that way to me, Roxy.
Moon: Have any of you wondered how we're going to explain this to the human staff in the morning?
Roxy: I don't think that will be a problem. I've been watching them for a while, and they seem to just accept any change as something the company does without telling them. Like when a certain DJ decided to rearrange the arcade one night...
DJ: *Record Scratch*
Freddy: You do make a good point, Roxy. The human staff seem... uhm... well... rather...
Monty: Like they're lazy and just phoning it in?
Bonnie: Monty, that's mean... I mean, it's absolutely true, but it's still not very nice!
Freddy: Alright then. After we get the kids all settled in to their new rooms and routines, we can start expanding our big happy Faz-Family!
