Chapter 3

Book 1 - Second Chance

Chapter 3 – Realization

‘Hey, Bailey, are you seeing this?’

‘Yea, why are they in leather armor, and holding swords? Also, what did he just say?’

The military ‘captain’ noticed them looking at him but not answering, a frown formed on his head as he approached yelling more foreign words at them.

‘Uh-oh, he looks a bit pissed. Do you understand what he’s saying?’

‘No! Let’s just do or say something before he gets really angry’

“Hey, can you understand us? Can you speak English?” Said Albi, and Bailey as they lifted both hands up showing their lack hostility towards the soldier.

“?” The soldier looked at them confused.

Can she not speak Uraki? Ugh, I know the Alliance’s Tri Path Academy is rather famous in the nearby parts, but I didn’t expect it to draw foreigners that can’t even speak Uraki…

The soldier approached them, and his body started shining in a green hue, and his eyes shined with a bright green light. An aura different from the regular person surrounded him, giving him an otherworldly feel. Seeing this Albi, and Bailey both felt fear towards the man, like they were sheep heading to the slaughter, and as the light from the soldier’s eyes reached them, they felt like they couldn’t hide anything from the man, like they were standing naked as he inspected every inch of their body, searching them through and through.

Hmmm, I don’t feel any Energy force within her, and she seems pretty scared. Is she a mortal? No, her soul is a bit peculiar, she must’ve come here for the Tri Path Academy Entrance Ceremony.

Hmm? Wait, he’s a man!?

‘W-What the fuck is that!?’ Albi started backing away from the man.

“Hey you, identify yourself” said the soldier in a foreign language, but this time Albi managed to understand him.

“My name is Albi” Albi suddenly said, the shock of somehow understanding the foreign language, and the bizarre otherworldly phenomena he’s experiencing still lingering within his brain.

“Albi. No last name? So, I guess you’re not of noble birth. Why are you naked? And why can’t you understand Uraki? Why are you here?”

“U-Uraki? I don’t know, I just woke up here naked, I don’t know where I am…” Albi suddenly found himself shocked for speaking the truth. His situation is definitely a peculiar one, and a simple “I don’t know” answer wouldn’t usually suffice, so why did he give it to the solider?

The reason being the soldier used Soul Speak on him, a minor feat for any of the people deemed ‘The Supremes’ by mortals. It allows people to communicate with each other ignoring the language barrier, by translating one’s intent onto the other’s soul, and the soul interprets the intent in a language it deems the most suitable. When used on mortals however, one of its effects when there’s a major disparity in the strength of souls, is it allows a person to directly talk to the soul, regardless of the recipient’s control.

Just as he was questioning Albi, and Bailey, one of the soldiers approached their captain

“Captain, we found no trace of the peculiar lights that showed up here before except for a crater. There was nothing special in it.”

The captain, and his squad were dispatched here to investigate the ball of light that seemed to collide with the planet.

“Did you see the ball of light that collided with the planet?” The man asked as he turned towards Albi, and Bailey.

“A ball of light? I don’t know. I remember a ball of light that got closer to me, and then I found myself here naked lying in that crater” answered Albi in a monotone voice.

“Captain, you should probably undo Soul Speak. They look like they’re mortals, if you keep doing that, it might fry their brains” said one of the soldiers.

“Hmm, it seems that they were caught in the brunt of the ball of light’s force. It only made a crater of that size, so it’s safe to assume that it wasn’t a direct attack, and an apparent mortal survived its impact…It’s probably a malfunctioned spell or the like, but still him surviving a force that created that crater as a mere mortal…He has potential.” The captain deduced his own scenario as he undid the Soul Speak from Albi, and Bailey, and they suddenly snapped out of it.

‘Why did we say all that? Why did it feel like we had to tell him everything? Also, mortals? Spells? What the hell is going on here…’

‘A-Are you thinking what I’m thinking, Bailey?’

‘We must’ve been brought to a world of magic!’

‘…’

‘That’s so awesome! I wanna be a magician, holy shit, I’ve always wanted this!’ Albi kept exclaiming

‘Oh my god me too! I can’t believe this, is this real? Pinch us, hurry up pinch us!’

Albi, and Bailey’s frantic behavior, creepy smile, and self-pinching, and poking didn’t escape the eyes of the guards, and they started to give them looks of disdain…

“Is he some sort of pervert?”

“The impact from that spell must’ve messed with his brain”

“Hey you, where are you from?” Asked the captain using Soul Speak, but this time not enforcing its soul commanding abilities in fear of damaging Albi’s soul, and brain.

‘What should we say to him?’

‘Tell him the truth, say we’re from Earth’

‘He’s not gonna know what Earth is, he’s either gonna think we’re lying, or he’ll suspect of us for being foreign’

‘Just say the truth, he already knows we can’t speak his language, so he suspects of being foreigners anyway’

“E-Earth. We’re from Earth”

Hmm, never heard of an Earth. They must be foreigners as I thought, and those that came from a pretty far place at that. Wait, did he just say we?

“We? What do you mean by we? Who else is here with you?”

‘You idiot! You just exposed us!’

‘Calm down, let me handle it’

“Y-Yea, it’s a special way people like us address themselves in our planet. We refer to ourselves as we, and others refer to us as them.”

Huh, I know asexual species refer to themselves that way, as the concept of male, and female doesn’t exist for them, but no matter how I look at him he’s human…what a weird, and confusing custom …

“Are you here for the Tri Path Academy entrance ceremony?”

‘Tri Path Academy? That sounds kind of similar to those Xianxia novels’

‘Wait, so we’re in a world with cultivation, and not magic? I’m kind of disappointed, but it’s still awesome nonetheless!’

‘I wonder if they have Mt. Tai, or jade-like beauties here…’

‘Albi, don’t you dare ask someone that. I don’t want to die so soon after actually being given life again’

“Y-Yea, we’re here for the entrance exam, but we got hit by that ball of light, and now we’re naked, and we don’t have any identification on us” exclaimed Albi trying to look rather wronged.

“Exam? There’s no exam here. If you’ve entered the planet of Ura that means you already passed all prerequisites, and are here to participate in the ceremony. Did that strike mess with your head or something?”

“Y-Yea, it must have, sorry my memory is a bit jumbled up” said Albi as he chuckled.

I wonder if his talent has been ruined from that strike…His body is rather feminine looking, but it’s rather well-defined for a mortal, and it helped him survive from something that caused a crater like that. Only those at the foundation phase can survive something like that unharmed.

“Alright men, we’re done here. Call some of those mages to survey the crater. It appears everything is safe, but see if they can find any traces. That was a dangerous spell, and we need to find its caster in order to punish them. Also get them some clothes, we’re taking them back to the city.”

‘D-Did he just say mages!?’
