Chapter 20 At The Beginning of an Era

Bergun, The Pure, The One True God, The Saviour of Humanity, The Truth of Creation walked slowly in his gardens, bathing in their splendor that of course, could not be compared to his existence. Beautiful ornamental columns were supporting terraces of gardens that were sparkling with many bright colors. Small animals of the most exotic origin were lurking behind leaves of plants and flying through the skies in the form of rainbow-colored birds.

Bergun loved it here, it was the design of non other than his that made this place a paradise, but he did not want to stop at this point! That was the reason why one of the head priests was now coming to him while bowing every other step, paying homage as everyone would in front of Bergun.

"Enough, come closer. Tell me, what place should be granted to privilege of being rebuild by me? I have been thinking about the central graveyard, yes that will be the place." Said Bergun, asking a question that he himself answered right after.

"Don't just stand there! Lead the way!" He furrowed his brows, looking at the ornamental mask of the head priest that should be symbolizing he, himself.

Although he expected the man to turn around and lead the way, instead he lifted his hand to his mask and slowly took it off, revealing his true face. Bergun wanted to rebuke his unappropriate behaviour, but simply froze insted, his eyes bulging at the sight of the head priest's face.

"Sometimes, even false gods need to pay their debts Garry." The figure said and his hand shot forward, penetrating his belly like his godly skin was just paper, the bloody hand grasping his kidney.

"How?!" Bergun cough out blood, one of his hands gripping the hand of his enemy that had just hurt him. "You are not a god, how can you hurt me?"

"Let's just say at the bottom of the swamp was something no one would expect and now, I can add another piece to it." He jerked his hand out of the stupefied Bergun, holding his kidney in his hand, leting Bergun fall to the ground, his blood staining his beloved garden.

"You can't! I am Bergun! The one true god! I rule the heaven on earth!" He shrieked, rolling back and forth in a pool of his own blood.

"You mean Baradin?" The false head priest lowered himself to look Bergun in his face. "Do not worry, as a high priest tending to the dead, I have already prepared a fitting fate to your land of fanatics."

"Guards! A heretic is attacking your god! Purge the monster!" Bergun shouted weakly as the only piece of his self that was truly goldy was in the hand of his enemy.

"Hurry! His Excellency Bergun has been attacked!" Guards began to swarm the place, their shiny ceremonial armor made rather for showing off their status than combat was clanking loudly. When they saw the situation, they encircled the intruder with the tips of their swords pointed at him and about to turn him into a porcupine.

"How cute of you fanatics to react swiftly, but it is of no use anymore. After a long time of waiting, the vengence is here and no one will escape." The face of the intruder turned cold, his eyes unfeeling and the guards gulped as they watched him opening his mouth unnaturally, to simply swallow the bloody pulp he held in his hand a second later.

They watched his eyes began to bleed profousely, only to find out the blood had a life of its own, the thin lines of black blood launching themselves at the guards, cutting and tangling them up. They soon relized, they were no match for the mist of blood and only their desperate cries could be heard as all sounds of the beautiful garden fell silent, as if everything was afraid of the terrible being in the center of it all

"We have just begun, The dead will raise and claim what is not yet theirs." The being cut his veins and a huge cloud of blood mist exploded forth, gradually engulfing the whole capital city of Baradin.

Thus with vengence, the age of the dead began.

"Oh my god." Cirse was slowly nearing the corpse of bronze color adorned with many tatoos, wary of the out of mind looking Victoria that was sucking its blood. The next second brought shock to both of them as the corpse suddenly opened its eyes, it sat up while shouting.

"Jothulm, you are next, I will show you the wrath of a true good!" The resurrected person turned his head at Krogar who naturally stopped his dinner and stared at his vigorous meal with shock.

"Sorry." He smiled innocently. "I thought you were dead."

"Dead? The blood of a true god is coursing through my veins, I just met some complications on my way to destroy the false god Jothulm, be gone foul creature!" The person extended his hand ominously, only to stare at it in shock a second later as nothing had happened.

"What trickery is this? I possess the blood of the true god!" The person was getting more and more confused.

"Sorry about that, it was kind of yummy, so I kind of ate it."Krogar said with a smile. "What have you just said you are?"

"I am the one who wields the power of The One God's blood, how could you just stole it? Why is it that no power is felt from you? The blood gaves incredible power to one's soul!"

"Shit! Discrimination again! Who cares about a soul, it is discrimination against all AI soul-less robo-vampires!" Krogar frowned.

"He is probably just crazy, no godly powers there." Cirse tried to bring some sense into the conversation.

"Then how come he was lying submerged in the mud with no care in the world." Vitoria countered immediately and turned to the self-proclaimed god.

"How did you end up there? What complications have you spoke about?"Victoria decided to act according to the strange's explanations.

"I reanimated hordes of undead, destroyed the vile empire of the cursed Bergun and sank into a swamp while marching to deal with other false gods." He said, his face void of emotion.

"A godslayer stopped by a swamp, like really?" Victoria could not help herself but giggle and the face of the godslayer darkened.

"Cursed swamp! Everything goes wrong because of a swamp every single time! I could have been a happy man was I not to wander into the acursed swamps and save that moron!"

He paused to take a breath for another tirade.

"I hate the swamps as much as I hate the false gods. I hate them, I hate them! I will suck it dry along with all that sticky mud and there will be no swamps anymore!"

Cirse stealthily neared Krogar while watching their new godly friend carefully.

"Victoria, this guy is out of our league, we should leave him be." She whispered into Krogar's ear

"I think so too, let us leave him here sucking the swamp or whatever." Krogar whispered back, but it looked like the man had a sixth sense.

"Do not think you can run away with my godly blood! Where is it? I still cannot feel its power from you!" It seemed that they would not be rid of the godslayer that easily.

"Oh no, trust me that you do not want to make a group consisting of an AI robo-vampire, mutant humanoid reptile girl and a confused, swamp-sucking godslayer. In case you do not know, he has probably no soul, so your godly blood is probably wasted on him. By the way, you have spoken about the undead, but I do not see any." Cirse pointed out in the direction of the junk-spewing pipe of Nas'Librion.

"I see quite some time have passed." The godslayer said dryly.

"Indeed."Cirse gave Krogar a signal with her hand and jumped on his back. "Run!"

Krogar did not waste any time and dashed away from the city in an attempt to outrun the godslayer while piggybacking Cirse.

Luckily, the first mighty step of the godslayer ended up his chase, as he sank up to his knees into the mud, he was obviously still at the edge of the lake of filth.

"The fate throws a swamp again in my way! Cursed swamp! I will suck you dry!"

Krogar's back tingled as the phrase stroke some nerves in his body, where had he heard it again? Surely not remembering would be the best course of action.
