I woke up during the night, I shivered in my spot, my back was sore and the pup was nowhere to be seen.
I sighed, although without the pup I would be starved for interaction, I sighed out of relief. Relief that the dog left sooner than later.
When I would eventually return home, I didn't think I'd be able to take care of him. I'd be better off forgetting him.
As I looked around, I spotted a berry, it was one of the raspberries, but no that couldn't be right, that bird had taken the last of my berries.
Quickly I walked over to the berry, my stomach growled all the while, I hadn't eaten since the morning and I was famished.
I took a bite and finished it, then spotted another, and ate it as well. I was still hungry but there were no more berries.
"Arf!" I heard a yip from behind and there I saw the dog. His fur was dirtied, his stomach still looked as empty as yesterday and he was panting.
The thing out of place was the small pile of berries that he was dragging on a fairly large leaf.
"Ruff! Ruff!" The pup said, tail wagging.
I just sat there staring, dumbfounded. When I noticed droplets of water land on my hands.
Was I crying?

The grey furred animal immediately ran to my side, leaving the leaf of berries and laid its head in my hand and I started to scratch, to the pup's delight.
"You're a good pup." I said with a smile, realising my use of its nickname at the tilt of his head.
He then pouted at the name and looked at me cutely. I scuffled his head and he barked in protest.
I walked over to the berry pile and asked,
"Is this for me?" To which the pup's reply was to nod its head. I gave it a smile and picked one up and split it in half and offered it to the dog. "Here" I said, offering half to the dog.
The dog shook its head in a ‘no’ gesture, then with its nose it pointed to a pile of the spicy berries and locked its lips.
Reassured that it had probably eaten, I took a bite of the raspberry and finished it for dinner.
----------------------------------------
The rest of the night was spent on trying to start a fire. I had ended up using one of my shoe laces and a stick to make a makeshift bow and searched for dry sticks.
After acquiring some sticks I placed them onto a pile and tied the string around a thin, dry stick. I spun the stick around trying to start a fire using the bow drill method and after a few attempts, I saw a spark.
It was small and it ended up going out, but I tried again and covered my hands over the spark, constantly blowing to enlarge the flame.
After a few attempts it lit up and I was able to add more wood onto the burning fire before me. I had felt accomplished, but then it was shattered. A gust of icy wind appeared out of nowhere and encased the flame. Putting it out.
I looked towards the direction and spotted the lil' pup staring at me thinking it might know something I went ahead and asked.
"Did you see something?"
"Arf" it replied, not really giving me a lot to go off of.
Resigned, I went to a tree and I laid down next to it, I saw a pile of dead leaves nearby, I used it as a blanket.
I tried going to sleep, but then I felt a tugging on my shirt. By now, the night wind had blown away most of my blanket and my shirt was now accessible to him.
He was growling and barking up the tree that I was leaning on.
"Hey now," I said tiredly, "I think you're barking up the wrong tree, heh I made a joke, hey ain't that a good one?"
"Ruff" the dog was still tugging upon my shirt and I got up and moved along with it.
He led me to an empty plain and laid down there, I laid next to him and he cuddled up along with me, as if telling me to use him to warm myself up. I appreciated the thought and hugged him close to my chest.
