"Arf! Ruff ruff" staring at me was a grey, blue eyed dog. It barked and nuzzled against my leg.
I was currently lying on the ground, inside a fairly large crater, whilst in the wilderness.
What had happened?
My head hurt, my body was shivering and I had no idea what had happened last night.
Heh I could totally see my friend coming out of those bushes screaming something like, 'Hey Samson! Last night was crazy! Oh my God remember all those dudes you sucked off? Geez man you left them all satisfied!'
I remarked the words which my friend had told me one morning. Obviously he was joking with me, but I couldn't help but smile at the thought.
The first thing I noticed was that my wear did not fit in my environment. I wore a polo shirt which was a solid white, with shorts which contrasted my shirt, being a plain black, my shoes were not appropriate to the wilds, being more sports shoes than outdoor, mountain boots.
I looked at my surroundings, but couldn't spot anything apart from trees, bushes, grass, this dog and the crater that I was lying in.
Wait? Crater?
Realising that I was in a crater, my first action was to sit up. I then, with both hands, grabbed the dog’s face to lift it and move it a couple of metres away from me.
"Stay there, I have allergies so I'll…" I trailed off, deciding not to scold the dog further, which the suspect in question took that moment to nuzzle its way back up my leg, where it rested its head.
But I couldn't focus on that, I had just touched a dog and didn't feel any type of reaction. Usually my hands would start rashing up with an uncontrollable itch and my nose would work overtime to rid the body of any dog hairs, usually in the form of snot and sneezes.
As I switched my focus from my hands to this grey little pup, raised its head and it stared back at me, its blue eyes prominent.
"Ruff" it ruffed at me, its tongue sticking out with its tail wagging.
I feel that I've seen this type of dog before, where have I seen it? It's not a dog breed that I know of. Did one of my neighbours keep one?
The dog looked similar to a husky, whereas a husky had a coat, black bordering grey, with a bit of white mixed in, the dog before me had dark grey fur with the bits of fur being a lighter shade of grey by its chest. By the neck it had some blue diamond shaped rocks.
It seemed familiar in some way but I couldn't quite place it.
Just then the pup started to growl at a tree and I turned to its direction, but couldn't find anything out of the ordinary.
Just then an apple fell from said tree, and it rolled towards us. It was red with green leaves jotting out of two places?
It rolled and stopped perfectly upright, and started to scream?
Stolen novel; please report.
"APPLIN!!" It screeched as the pup stood beside me.
Let it be known, the apple was looking down at us, who were still in a crater and the pup let out a mighty bark which was high pitched and sounded cute to me.
A white snow started to form around us as the apple started to shake and the snow moved towards the apple hitting it with a light thud.
It shortly wobbled and fell to the ground, the dog held its head up high, eyes closed and turned my way, trotting towards me.
I gently scratched it by the scruff of its neck and its tail wagged, its leg reacted in kind, thumping the ground rapidly.
I looked towards the apple as I got up, leaving the little dog to protest as I exited the crater and looked towards the apple. Nothing had seemed out of the ordinary, but I did notice some black dots at the centre of the two leaves.
I thought nothing of it and heard my stomach rumble and started to move in a random direction. The dog, not wanting to be left behind, struggled to climb out of the crater, which I too had struggled with and I sighed, helping the poor thing get out of the crater at the very least. I'm not a monster.
I had no idea what had happened with the apple and the dog, but I didn't really think too much of it, soon enough it would not be my problem anymore, as soon as I could find someone and ask for a lift.
My friends probably thought that it was funny to steal my phone and leave me out in the middle of the woods.
Rrrgh
My stomach growled and I had placed my hands over it to cover up the sound, which didn't work.
"Ruff, ruff" I heard a bark and spotted the dog, a couple of metres out, wagging it's tail towards me and nudging its head towards some outgroves of bushes.
I was hungry, and a dog living out in the woods would probably know about edible foods, at the very least.
I sighed and maturely followed the dog towards an outgrove of bushes.
My friends would probably laugh their heads off if I ever told them I took survival tips from a dog, but I do have the choice to not tell them, yeah I'll do that.
I told myself, knowing full well that I'd probably tell them the moment I got back.
As we made it to the outcropping, the little pup urged me towards a tomato like berry, it was red with small spikes jutting out of it. It didn't look safe, but the pup gave me its best puppy dog eyes, and I gave in.
I took a bite and…
"AH SHIT!" I yelled, spitting out the fruit and or vegetable. The moment I took a bite, a spiciness that I had never had the pleasure of tasting before had filled my mouth as my throat dried up. I looked around before stopping my gaze at the pup who was lying on the floor laughing!
Tears welled up in my eyes as I tried to regain what little dignity I had left.
That little Devil!
I started to chase the small animal who, in turn, ran in circles around me as I chased it. With a yip the pup slid on the ground, gracefully turning around and running through my legs.
As I was still running, I too tried to stop and turn and failed, ending up on the ground. I noticed that where the dog had turned had less friction and as a result, I ended up slipping, falling onto my back.
“Ow, what was that?” I looked at the spot where I slipped, the ground was slightly shiny and reflected some light, it was ice. I looked at my surroundings and low and behold, a few flakes of snow began to fall from the sky.
Realising that it must have been snowing I got up and sighed, it was starting to get cold, and that berry did warm me up.
Walking past the pup, who at this point was rolling on the ground laughing, I went to the bush with the spiky berry growing from it and started picking them and stuffing them into my pockets.
I picked some unripe ones as well, which were green and I also picked some other berries from other bushes, some blue ones and some raspberries.
At this point the dog was standing, staring at me, whilst wagging its tail. I noticed the gaze was directed to my pockets and I pulled out a berry, at which the pup brightened, its tongue now hanging out and it spun around.
I held a palm sized berry which was round and blue, and I tossed it up and caught it again, its gaze locked onto the food.
Should I toss it or just give it? I don’t really know this dog enough to just chuck it and I haven’t really fed a dog before.
After much deliberation with myself, I ended up just tossing it towards the pup’s foot, the pup in question had jumped away at the sudden motion and walked back towards the food, sniffing it, then taking a bite.
The pure bliss on the dog’s face after the first bite, had my heart melting at the sight and I pulled out another of the berries out of my pocket and took a bite.
And the first thing I noticed while biting into it was the amount of juices. It was as if I was biting into a water balloon but it didn't pop immediately. It was slightly sweet but it didn't otherwise taste like anything, it was refreshing in its own unique way.
I then took out one of the raspberries and split it in half, causing some of the juices to stain my shirt.
"Fuck" I said in more of an acceptance, the pup stared at me yelping,
"Arf!" the little pup said and started to jump on me, licking the spot where the stain landed.
It tickled, which was odd, the fabric was freezing over, I ended up handing half of the berry to the dog which got it down and noticed the stain.
The ice had shattered by this point and what was left was a barely noticeable shade of pink. If I hadn’t known better, I would believe that this shirt was brand new, or at the very least, that one particular part.
Just what was this dog?
