MISA: The Seventh Failure

To: BLACK WOLF COMPANY “DIRE”

Subject: DOCUMENT CURVE TITLE CHANGED ON [redacted date] TO “Strange Automata.”

READ STATUS: Unread

The hatch to the abandoned facility represented the pinnacle of Black Wolf Company’s manufacturing prowess, alright, as it took several hefty construction automatons to rip apart. Through all the years, there were two things that never changed about the Black Wolf Company. Firstly, their commitment to changing absolutely nothing about their policies. And secondly, their damn security. Through all the legal issues and high profile targets working within the Company, they were especially good at stopping people from getting inside or outside their factories.

The men were slacking off while the machines worked and eventually failed, but they had new motivation when they finally got to use the brand new state of the art (definitely not outdated, they were informed) Pile Drivers with several modifications that were not Company approved yet were shipped to them to use. That was neither here nor there, since the Company did not need them until now. How did it come to this?

Deep within the ravaged deserts of a certain continent that was definitely not wherever the important things were, recovery teams present there had nothing better to do. They figured that this job would be easy like the last false flag 1756 days ago. A random emergency beacon getting launched at this location was inconsequential. It probably meant some billionaire fat fingered his keycode somehow doing whatever billionaires do. All the employees here had a pretty relaxed schedule, however, they were now fearful that they would have to be relocated back into the mainline after this mission. Little did they know, that they were not getting paid for this mission’s completion anyways. All that mattered was shutting it off.

Normally if such a noisy thing was activated, the beacon would get ignored due to Black Wolf Company’s No Refund Policy and promptly shut off. However, this one did not. After plenty of eccentric billionaire customers ordering the Midnight Infiltration Security Assassin (Code: MISA units) called the original beacon’s signal because they did not read the fine print or realized that they were a little too dangerous to handle, the policy was established effective immediately and applied retroactively. Billionaires could not read anyways— they probably paid someone to do that trivial matter for them.

Not that those well respected customers would know, since the MISA robots were discontinued after some higher up said so. Whether he was the one woken up first by the Customer Service Beacon or that these deadly machine’s flaws finally caused enough legal issues for the Company’s constant triggering of Headquarters Relocation Procedures… None of the men on the ground knew. They weren’t paid to know, but simply to press the off switch on the loud transcontinental beeping.

However, this particular signal decrypted several hundred Layer Zero Security Servers and struck some higher up’s personal phone… And just did not stop even after multiple attempts to mute it. That irate higher up presumably took it personally, looked up the distress beacon’s origins, and finally discovered that it was from a certain location that was classified and unknown to those pesky customers. This made things end up a little more interesting, so the mission was immediately submitted. It was the fastest the Black Wolf Company had ever moved in decades. No one and nothing was operating there for years as far as anyone found, so it was like waking up a certain sleeping Airforce squadron to go on a mission somewhere out of the blue. All Black Wolf Company recovery teams double checked, then triple checked, whether the emergency code was bogus or not. Then they all took bets on which one would shut the thing off first.

Still, all four teams closest to the abandoned facility showed up, arguing over whose robot will get the honor to break the hatch open. Six hours later after the bets were settled, Team 3’s automaton successfully “unlocked” the hatch using Black Wolf’s latest innovative Anti-Bunker technology and the teams were given approval to enter. This technology also coincidentally destroyed Team 1’s and Team 2’s machines, but since they were bored, the loss and wasted use of company resources during the operation were not recorded. Team 4’s machine did not have a chance to attempt another opening.

After the dust settled, they all filed quickly into the bunker below. It was dark and spooky as an abandoned facility could look like with night vision goggles, but the most eerie part was the lack of Black Wolf Company assets inside. Those who work in the notorious company know the truth, though. They either tossed the old machinery into the flames or repurposed them into newer production lines overseas. As a result, everything was quiet save for the rapidly beeping distress beacon on each Team’s radio the deeper they explored within the facility.

It was then they discovered within the deepest jaws of the beast, much to everyone’s annoyance, the source of the distress beacon.

In a crater, definitely not caused by any [recorded] Black Wolf Company accident, rested an old and dusty MISA unit chirping away for the world to hear.

Initially seen as a faulty robot, the [now fully “retired”] department that initially developed the MISA unit line claimed that every unit was flawless and would not ever have need of such a beacon. The last survivor of the department, the Head Alpha, confirmed that this recovered machine was not a part of the original seven units that were produced before he was… “laid off.”

The unit was turned off and stored until another noisy incident occurred. By then, the public began to pressure the company on their alleged illegal actions and production of dangerous machines, but Black Wolf Company shot back and denied any such claims although they totally were producing AI models for other nations that were less noisy. To save face, an announcement was made while they determined what exactly was going on with the MISA unit.

「Dear Valued Black Wolf Company Investors and Customers, we have discovered an [totally] original MISA unit and are waiting for its retrieval. Please provide the following details in order to reclaim it:

- Neural Imprint

- Serial Code

- cDNA Exacord

- Proof of Insurances

- License of Ownership

- Black Company Contact Information Data Lattice 」

Needless to say, further research and examination of this MISA unit was conducted. They knew no one would be able to claim the machine, since it was discovered to be counterfeit. However, this also complicated the matter even more. How was such a device able to pierce through so many Security Layers and use top secret manufacturing technology in order to assemble such a faulty robot? Furthermore, why would its creator invest such effort on a MISA unit in the first place, especially when they were [allegedly] creating far better and more lethal friendly units?

Though the announcement put the world’s scrutiny on them at bay, the Black Wolf Company faced more issues on the nature of this strange automaton. The materials used to construct the MISA unit were quite similar to metals found on Earth, however, several pieces were discovered to be composed of unknown elements as disturbingly viable substitutes. The mysterious MISA unit chirped its last distress beacon call on a certain date before the Research Team could extract all of the files on it except one and became defunct, fated to become forgotten by the Black Wolf Company Execs. The file in question has been redacted, but it claimed whoever the unit has been sent to assassinate had finally been eliminated and thus the counterfeit MISA unit followed proper procedure in Company Loss Mitigations by shutting down.
