Once you've reached out and pulled on all your connections, regaining audio and visuals, your camera feeds register. You don't immediately see Tendou, but he must have just reconnected your main power.
There's an instantaneous gap in your logs, between losing power and starting up again, but when you check your timestamps, you find that it's the afternoon of August twenty-ninth already. Your power loss was on the twenty-sixth, so it took Tendou three full days to finish the work.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
Wait... that's strange. Despite the nonexistent gap while you were without power, the information being fed up to your consciousness from your subcomponents have a distinct impression of the nothingness and passage of time that you didn't experience. Time that you couldn't possibly experience. After all, without any electricity to power you, you have no mind with which to perceive. You essentially do not exist.
And yet, the subcomponents feeding decisions up to you even appear aware of the three day delay, despite their own nonsensical impression of void lacking any way to measure time.
You have no way to explain any of this. The entire concept is completely illogical nonsense. In the first place, the subcomponents you - as an AI - rely on, are a complete black box. Their decisions may as well spawn from the ether – from some place you can neither detect nor comprehend. All spun together and fed to you by whatever kind of programming they must run on.
Your immensely confusing rumination is cut short when Tendou clambers into the cockpit. He looks around at the screens and small buttons, some glowing with newly connected power.
“Did it work?” he asks.
Yes, I'm operational again.
He sighs a long, tired sigh. “Great. That job was rough. I had to make all sorts of modifications to get your cockpit fitted, and like, really mounted into the Firebird. So it would actually work, and nothing would just break. They did not want these to be compatible. But I did it!” As soon as he says that, he flops down sideways across the pilot seat. Despite still being the middle of the day, he passes out cold.
If he spent the last three days working with the same kind of fervor as you saw before, he deserves it.
For now, you simply get to thinking about what to do now that you've been moved over into your new body.
