Part 21 – Final Checks

Part 21 – Final Checks

Just in time, a number of reminders come up to the surface.

Before leaving, we should make sure we have all of the things you need. Did you search around the hanger before before I was activated?

He shakes his head, shuttering with his response. “No, I was chased here by that small hex.” He doesn't say it - that clearly means you awoke at the same time he was running from the immediate threat, which is how he fell into your cockpit.

Then you should make sure you have everything you will need to travel. Food, water, tools, and such.

You aren't really sure just what a human needs for travel outside of the specific things your subprocessors have suggested to ask about. But it's clearly enough to get Tendou thinking, soon giving a little nod.

“Alright, then I should go get as much water as I can, and maybe see if there's anything else. Hmm....” Rubbing his chin, he looks like he has an idea, but explain whatever it might be, and instead just walks you over to the back corner of the hanger.

You kneel down just in front of the small, human sized area where he somehow got the lights on earlier. Once again, he hops down to the concrete floor, slinging a bag over his shoulder, and heads in to get... whatever a human might need.

You can do little except wait, so in the meantime, you make sure to do a full systems check, to ensure you haven't missed anything before you go. One by one, you go down all of your different parts and their subsystems, laying them out for inspection. This time, you expand out all of the sections you normally minimize for Tendou, for as full a view as you can get.

You double check your battery, motors, fuel stores, ammo, and all your other systems, to ensure nothing was missed. No red flags, at least in terms of components or subsystems that have connection issues, or are expected to fail due to damage. All of your integrity levels are looking good after changing out the damaged parts...

You continue digging through to check as thoroughly as you can, until your pilot eventually returns, the bag over his shoulder visibly more packed with items than when he left.

He climbs into the cockpit, drops the bag on the floor beside him, to join the other couple bags and various metal canisters he already has there. You aren't sure how many supplies humans need, so it's hard to say if that it a lot or a little.

“That's everything I could find in there, I think,” he says, still glancing back and forth uncertainly across the upper section of the monitors as he speaks. Then he takes up the controls, and you stand from your crouched position. “Now, was there anything else?”

That's an easy one.

We should make sure we've explored this entire hanger, so nothing gets missed.

Tendou gives a small nod, and you begin to walk around the hanger. Past the repair bays, past the small storage areas along the walls, looking back and forth to be sure you check everything.

You soon realize that you hadn't checked everything yet. Along the far wall of the hanger, there are numerous open storage bays, clearly for storing larger ray frames, like the Ironside you took out earlier. You don't find anything of use left over, besides a couple bits of human tools your pilot collects once or twice as you go.

While walking, you consider that you have some other important questions to ask, such as if there are any dangers outside, or where Tendou came from, how he found this hangar in the first place. But... those can wait until you're out of here, when you're traveling, and aren't otherwise engaged.

You come upon the trash pile in the hangar's front corner. Largely parts too damaged to be used anymore. You see your old arms there, their crumpled forms dumped atop the pile.

You kick at the pile briefly, your pilot squinting as if searching for something, but soon shrugs when nothing presents itself, and he moves on.

Another minute of walking, and you've circled the entire hangar. Now, Tendou just raises a brow, like he expects another suggestion. You do have a few more things in mind, but youre less certain of them.

First on the list is a way of carrying more with you, since you have no idea if or when you'll have a chance to come back here. It would be best if you could have anything you need with you.

But...

Can you think of any way for me to carry more?

You aren't entirely sure what. Ammo, or replacement parts maybe, in case you get damaged. However, while the human can just put things in a simple canvas bag, you haven't seen anything in here that seems to be designed for the task. Perhaps by modifying a holster somehow, it could be refitted to use as a storage space that would attach via hardpoint. You might need a way to seal it against the elements depending on what you're storing...

While you're in the process of considering all of that, your pilot asks, “What do you want to carry, more ammo or something?”

I'm unsure, but it would be beneficial to have more supplies available.

Tendou just shrugs. “Let me know if you have something in mind. For now, anything else?”

Just as you think you've hit the end of your list of suggestions, you do think of one more.

We should check the wreck of the small hex robot. That also might have had some fuel we can take.

“Mm, sure.” He looks somewhat uncomfortable thinking back on that one, but he agrees and you walk over into the general area you probably fought it. A little away from the trash pile, partway between there and the storage hanger where the Bogatyr was stuck.

After a quick glance that doesn't find anything, your pilot climbs out of the cockpit, and takes some time for a much better look, at ground level. He wanders left and right in his general forward path, inspecting various bits of junk as he goes, and picks up a few things to examine more closely.

One or two, he holds up to the light, then decides to keep, shoving them into his pockets. But apart from that, he returns unsuccessful. “Can't find anything that looks like fuel,” he says.

Well, it was a long-shot anyway.

With that done, there's another short pause...
