Wolves aren’t supposed to grow that tall! What the hell! The wolf towers over all of us in the distance, it’s about the size of a large delivery van. I don’t even think beating that thing is possible, but I can’t let Jesse and Emma get hurt.
I stand in front of Emma and Jesse protectively, “I’m going to attack that thing head-on, you guys stay back and get some cheap shots in, all right?” They both look at me with sad expressions, until Jesse speaks up, “Boy, I’m still employed by the Empress, I don’t get cold feet that easily.”
Jesse pulls out the revolver at his side and gets into a combat stance, understanding him, I rush forward immediately. The wolf seems to accept our challenge and gets ready to chow down on me, but I jump up just before meeting him and sock him straight between the eyes, forcing his head down.
Damn, he’s tough, he doesn’t even seem fazed… I land back on the ground behind the wolf, and when I look back at him, I see he’s already turned around. He lunges straight at me, but I duck down and punch his mouth shut. Now right under his snout, he swipes at me with his leg and I get thrown quite a way away, I can’t feel pain, but I know that he hit me pretty hard. Just gotta pray he didn’t break anything!
When I get back up and look back, I already see his teeth bearing down on me. But just before they bite down on me, I hear a loud Bang! and see one of the wolf’s eyes explode into a mess of gore, the giant wolf howls out in pain.
I see Jesse standing there when I look where the shot came from. “Revolvers aren’t just kids’ toys, you stupid mutt!” He screams at the angry wolf from the middle of the clearing. The wolf composes himself and begins turning to Jesse, just as it’s about to rush forward it yelps out in pain again!
I look around at what hit it this time and see Emma running up to and slashing into one of its front legs, now dripping blood. Damn Emma, I didn’t know she had that sort of skill! Emma keeps running and tries to make her way into the forest.
The giant wolf has other ideas though, it turns around again and lunges at Emma. I try and stop the Wolf from getting to her somehow, but I’m not fast enough, the wolf catches Emma’s clothes in its teeth and whips her off the ground. He whips his head around and Emma’s clothes can’t withstand the forces, they rip and I see her get catapulted through the air.
I can only watch as she flies through the air and impacts directly with one of the trees at the side of the clearing at high speed. She hits the tree high up and then falls, coming to a stop lying right at its root, bloody and injured. I scream “Oh god! Emma! Jesse, check on Emma!” since I don’t have any time to check on her right now, I pick up Emma’s short sword and focus on the giant wolf again.
Now you’ve just gotten yourself a death sentence, you stupid dog! The wolf turns back to me and we stare each other down, I make the first move and run up to the wolf again, now with a sword in hand. The wolf has already seen this once and lunges forward at me, but I dodge to the side, and he barely misses me.
I stab Emma’s sword straight into the wolf’s torso, and the wolf stops momentarily and whimpers a bit, this gives me the time to reel back a full-power punch and punch Emma’s sword straight into its pommel, shooting it into the wolf’s torso.
My arm overextends and also punches into the wound. The wolf screams at the top of his lungs from pain and can barely move, I reach deep into the wolf’s abdomen searching for the sword, and when I find it, I turn it 90 degrees and rip it out with full power. Copious amounts of blood and guts flood out of the wound and the wolf falls over onto its side shaking and shivering.
Now just to make sure that this stupid dog is dead! I run up to the wolf’s head and with my full power slash straight into its neck, creating another fountain of blood. The wolf pants heavily and slowly his eyes close until his breathing slowly stops. Take that! That’s for Emma, you stupid wolf!

I let the notifications ring out in my head, and rush over to Emma. Jesse is already tending to her and is administering some sort of drink. “How is she?! Is she alive?” I ask Jesse.
Jesse looks at me with a conflicted expression, “I can’t say for sure, but for now she’s unconscious, I’m no doctor so I can’t do much for her except stop the bleeding, give her some potions, and hope she keeps stable until we get back to the city…”

I hastily asked, “Should we try and go tonight then?! Or should we wait until tomorrow?”
“I’m useless in this darkness, I could only get one shot off on the Wolf King too, so I say we go tomorrow,” Jesse looks a bit disappointed by his inability, but I know I would be scrap metal between the wolf’s gigantic teeth right now if it weren’t for him. My metal body might be strong, but even I don’t think I could handle a giant wolf chowing down on me!
“Jesse, you saved my life with that shot at the wolf’s eye, you should give yourself some credit.” At that comment, Jesse smiles a bit, but when he looks back down at Emma, his smile vanishes, “But I couldn’t help her…”
I’m not good at consoling people, so for now I let Jesse confront his thought by himself. We dismantle what we can from the Wolf King and I let Jesse go to sleep. Let’s check out the new [Skill] I got.
Power Punch
Collect energy into your fist and release that power in a powerful punch. Deals a significant amount of damage to anything hit by it.
With how much I punch stuff, this will definitely come in useful!
I keep a watch on the clearing and over Emma as well. The darkness and silence of this otherworldly night get to me a bit and my thoughts start to wander. Why did I have to get reincarnated? Why do I suddenly have to fight for my life every day? And why do I care so little about it? Many different thoughts run through my mind, the biggest question is, why does a poor researcher like me suddenly kill so much and handle it so easily? I think I know the reason, but I don’t like it, I am now a robot, robots don’t have emotions, they are unfeeling, uncaring, and live only to serve a purpose.
From the moment I got stuck in this robot body, I’ve only been serving people. From saving Emma from goblins to letting Seline study me and back to protecting Jesse and Emma while walking through a dangerous forest, even though they are adventurers and I am not. Weird, I was never this selfless of a person before…Have I ever actually fought for my interests in this new life or have I only been following people’s orders?
But why did I get reincarnated in the first place? I shake my head clear of all these thoughts, there is nothing that can be done about my current situation, I can only make the best out of it. Maybe I should just continue being a researcher in this world, I mean, I still have all my robotics knowledge.
I fell a bit too deep into my thought and before I knew it, the morning sun rises and Jesse gets out of bed. Emma is still unconscious, but at least seems to be fine externally. I carry her on my back and we make our way out of the forest, on the way back Jesse tells me a bit more about the Wolf King I fought yesterday.
It seems that there is multiple Wolf Kings in different territories of the forest, and they are the big bosses behind all the small wolf-dog hybrid packs we kept seeing. Those are apparently simply called “Teip Wolves”.
We’re in luck because our journey back to Lunach is quite uneventful. The many Teip Wolves in the area seem to be dispersing and fighting amongst themselves because of the death of the Wolf King.
Jesse tells me that most likely in the coming weeks the wolves will be fighting among each other to decide on a new Wolf King. We make great progress on our journey back home and are back out of the forest and on our way to Lunach by noon.
When we get back into the city Jesse and I split up, he takes the remains of the Wolf King and all the other quests we completed back to the guild while I take Emma back home with me to Seline, she’s a court mage, but she must have some medical knowledge right?
I knock on her door and say “Seline, Andy here, we’re back!”
A silent click is heard from her door and I walk in, “Hey Andy, how’d it go?” I hear Seline say from a few rooms away.
“We got ambushed by a Wolf King and Emma was badly hurt, she’s still unconscious, can you help us out?”, when Seline hears Emma has gotten hurt, I hear her sprint down the corridors. When she races around the corner to see me and spots Emma on my back unconscious, she gets a grim expression on her face.
“Oh, God! How could you run into a Wolf King?!” I take Emma a bit further into Seline’s home and lay her down on a bed. Seline immediately hovers her hands over Emma and light starts to spill out of her palms. Healing Magic! Seline sits still near Emma and continues to heal her, after some time she leans back panting, “Huff…Huff…That should be good enough for now, although I used almost all my MP. I think she should be waking up soon-“
She couldn’t finish her sentence properly and fell back into her chair, just when she was about to fall off the chair, I catch her an pick her up. Seems like using almost all your MP takes a toll on your body… She must have been extremely worried about Emma’s condition…
I take Seline back to the bed in her room and wait for Emma to wake up. Just then I hear a knock on the door, “Hey Seline, Jesse here, can you let me in?” At least he didn’t try to pick the lock this time… I go to the door and unlock it manually, “Hey, sorry but Seline tuckered herself out healing Emma so just come in for now.”
As I explain the situation to Jesse, I don’t notice it at first, but a big burly man is standing behind Jesse. When I finally notice him, I jerk back in surprise only for the man to ask, “Do you mind me joining you inside?”
I look at Jesse in confusion, he simply says, “Oh yeah, this is the Guild Master of Lunach, would you mind having a small chat with him? After he heard that you killed the Wolf King pretty much singlehandedly, he wanted to see you in person.”
I agree and we go into Seline’s Living Room and sit down, Jesse makes himself comfortable in Emma’s room in the event that she wakes up. The Guild Master sits opposite me and looks at me appraisingly. Wh-What’s happening here?
“U-Um-,” I try and ask something only to be shut down by the GM, “Oh, sorry for not introducing myself, my name is Lex Halo, I’m an A-Rank Adventurer and the Guild Master of the Lunach Adventurers Guild.” He bows down to me, a bit surprised I bow down as well and introduce myself “U-Um, I’m Andy, a golem made by Seline…What brings you here today?”
Lex rights himself again and looks at me, “I am here today to ask you to join the Adventurers Guild, the strength to take down a Wolf King is extraordinary and we’d appreciate your strength! What do you say?”
