Chapter 6 Part 2

Not knowing what was going on, but once again no being able to go against the Dwarf’s massive strength, Kalthier resigned himself to follow him as fast as he could to keep his shoulder from dislocating. His mind still numb with fear and dread, not to mention disbelief that he could be so blatantly stupid.

Delete cooking skill.... Never in my life would I have thought of myself as a rash, thoughtless, impulsive or thick headed but I just broke world records in all of them.

After arriving at the first floor Uldren looked around frantically until he spotted a woman in the waiting room near the entrance. Absentmindedly dragging Kalthier behind him he made his way towards her then spending ten minutes introducing himself with hastened apologies for his tardiness.

“...And this M’lady, is Kalthier, Evangeline Delacroft’s most promising apprentice and a student to Pleandra, Belgroth and most recently myself”

It was only due to the fact that Kalthier was standing close to Uldren that he heard the half muttered end of the introduction.

“....Soon to be a decaying corpse due to his astounding stupidity and lack of insight”

Kalthier barely paid attention to the insult and the disturbingly accurate prediction of his future as he was openly gaping at the woman before him. Imposible is the closest word he could find to describe her. She was quite simply the most beautiful and exotic being he’d ever laid his eyes on. Taller than him by at least a foot, making her well over 7 feet tall. She possessed the sharp beauty one expects to find in an elf but magnified beyond comparison. Her skin was of a pale grey, but as she moved the light around her seemed to be constantly changing the hue and adding or removing colors in a way that screamed of life and vitality. To make things worse she was wearing a full length dress made entirely of black leather that showed more of her wonderful skin. Only It didn’t move like leather, It flowed around her figure like silk in the wind. But her eyes, her eyes were what Kalthier couldn't believe existed, even in a fantasy world.

A triple iris made of different prism of colors that danced and changed even when she was still, surrounded a star shaped pupil so dark, Kalthier felt like he was drowning in it. For a moment he forgot all about deleting the cooking skill, all about eva, Royal Road or reality. His whole existence belong to that kaleidoscope of colors and its darkness. Then she looked at him.

Somewhere in his brain Kalthier was ware of the fact that he got down on one knee and never letting their gazes drop she hoovered towards him. As the reached him this tall beauty that had him completely in thrall slowly took his chin in hand and, with a derisive snort flicked him with a finger in the forehead.

Clarity returned along with half a dozen messaged Kalthier ignored. Slowly, almost as if his suit had increased the gravity tenfold he stood up and after a moment of recollection and a shiver of determination he raised his head and looked, once again towards her eyes.

Nothing. A heavy sigh of relief escaped his lips as he realized that he could look at her eyes, which were still completely alien and beautiful, and remain in control of his body.

“Wha-What was that”

With a smile so perfect it made his heart ache the impossibility before him answered.

“Ah my child that wa- goddammit”

Having once again fallen to his knee Kalthier was still feeling the revelations of the beauty and command in her voice when he felt another flick to his forehead. Completely ignoring him as he worked to regain his footing for the second time she continued.

“Eherm… As I was saying what you felt is the after effect of the connection that exist between your race and my power which I believe was only increased due to the enchantments I laid upon the rings you now wear. Unfortunately the only way I could allow for you to keep your will and freedom in front of me was to adopt you as it were….Twice”

This content has been misappropriated from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Not having understood much of what the woman said Kalthier decided to start with the basic.

“Who are you?”

His voice held a dreamy quality to it that disturbed Kalthier and his only thought upon hearing it was that Drakky would get even for cute and famous if his fans heard him speak. It was however a bewildered Uldren who answered him.

“Kalthier, allow me to introduce to you Vilkra, Queen of the shadowfae, smoke and mirrors.”

Again that smile resurfaced, that small quirk of the lips appeared before him and despite not falling in complete stupor it still arrised a sense of peace and contentment within him.

“What he obviously neglected to tell you are some of my other, less glamorous titles one of which is Dragontamer”

Not surprised by either revelation, having expected something along those lines Kalthier moved on to his next question.

“Ok. Then what are you?”

As soon as the words left his mouth he realized his stupidity. A queen, one powerful enough to tame dragons and he addressed her like a strange bug that unexpectedly bit him.

What the hell is wrong with my brain today. It’s like clarity and common sense went out the window as soon as I logged on.

“Oi!, Who do you thi-”

“I don’t mind” Her voice cut through Uldren’s reproach like steel.

“After what I just put him through he deserves a bit of leniency not to mention that whatever allowed for him to be so easily enthralled is probably affecting his judgement as well.”

Shaking his head in disbelief Uldren backed off and left to scold some of his apprentices who had been eavesdropping on the scene.

“So yes, my name is Vilkra Mabilmaeve Unathe’Lagorin, and whilst I do posses certain power over dragonkind there is no reason for you to have reacted in such a strong way to my gaze and my voice, especially since I was not trying very hard to enthrall you”

Kalthier took the fact that she was indeed trying to enthrall him with a stride. Yo him it just seemed like such an action was as part of her nature as her clothes appeared to be.

“Tell me child have you done anything lately that could impair your judgement? something to eat or drink perhaps?”

Kalthier shook his head, the only thing he’d touched since logging in was the plant in Uldren’s office and that came after his first lapse in judgement.

“When was the last time you slept?”

“Around twelve hour ago” Said Kalthier after a brief calculation of real time versus game time.

Suddenly Uldren’s gruff voice yelled from the front desk of the smithy where he was very conspicuously eavesdropping.

“No ye weren't. Ye were off to wherever you freedman go when you decide to disappear”

Looking back Kalthier realized that he had in fact never slept while in game. All his time was dedicated to training except for one occasion.

“....Does being unconscious count”

“NO”

“NO”

Both Vilkra and Uldren yelled at his innocent inquiry making him voice.

“Then… three weeks?”

Despite sounding doubtful Kalthier knew this to be the truth. Almost as if by realizing that he’d spent close to three weeks in game without a wink of sleep Kalthier suddenly felt tired, not the bone weary exhaustion he’d grown accustomed to due to his training but regular, if massive, tiredness.

Seeing his eyelids began to drop Vilkra bent down towards him and giving him a chaste kiss on his forehead she whispered to Kalthier in melodic and magically enchanted voice to ensure he would not forget.

“Do come find me when you wake up, we have much to talk about and my time in this city is short.”

Almost as if he’d received a silent command or dismissal Kalthier slowly toppled forwards and was soundly sleep before a thick layer of smoke broke his fall and laid him gently on the floor.
