Chapter 12 (Part 1)

John and his family were huddled around one another deep in prayer. John's parents had suggested that they pray for the safety and well being of the country and the world. At this point John and his family knew that it was highly likely that they would be fine but what of the other people of the world? Sure John and his family could be taken to a cozy Presidential bunker to wait out the impending doom but what could the rest of the world do?

John couldn't stop worrying about the situation and so he had taken a 5 minute leave of his command center. He knew it would take that long before the Code Blue soldiers arrived on the scene of what he believed would be an inevitable battle. He just hoped that this group of terrorists hadn't learned yet of the existence of Code Blue, it would help to add an element of surprise.

His 5 minute break didn't feel like it had lasted too long. While still in the middle of prayer general Howard came into the room and grabbed ahold of John's shoulder.

"Sir, they are entering what looks like a war zone now." General Howard whispered.

John got up without a word, patted his son and daughter on the head and left the room silently. His moment of peace was short lived and was now over. The two men walked quickly down the hallway, in what was becoming a familiar routine.

Upon opening the door, John found his screen filled with horrifying images. First he could see the burning vehicles, and then the bullet riddled structures, but finally he was able to see the bodies piled up. The general's description seemed quite apt, this was a war zone.

"It looks like they put up one hell of a fight, considering who they were fighting against. I can see some of the terrorists are dead." John said, looking at the blood which filled the ground.

"Do they have the images of the pro-America fighters?" John asked.

"Yes sir, I will have them check to see if they identify any among the dead." General Howard responded.

John watched through the cameras as the men searched the grounds, looking at the faces of the dead. John heard one of the soldiers radio in.

"General it looks like we found one of the friendlies." The soldier said.

"Can we switch over to that soldiers view please general?" John requested.

"Absolutely sir." General Howard replied, giving a signal to the screen operator.

They switched over and found the face of Qi Wei.

"That was the man. Damn, that means they only have one super human left to fight back. Do we have any idea how long ago they left?" John asked.

"The tracks on the ground look fresh. It seems that there are a bunch of them on foot. There are also some fresh vehicle tracks, you see there?" General Howard replied, zooming in on the vehicle tracks.

Unauthorized reproduction: this story has been taken without approval. Report sightings.

"So this looks like it was a brilliant plan actually. They must have had a vehicle stashed away, and then blew the vehicles of the terrorists so they couldn't give chase. I am also seeing those structures that were manned with men so they could get free shots in. Apparently it still wasn't enough, they had to run. This is crazy." John said.

"Sir I am getting word that it appears that some of the people on foot must have been injured. They have found some blood sitting around one set of footprints." The general explained.

"OK general, send some of the men on foot to investigate. The rest should head back to their vehicles. Find out where the nearest medical center is, if we can't find them on foot we might catch a break there." John ordered.

"Yes sir, I am on it."

"What time is my call with the house intelligence committee?" John asked.

"They should be calling in any time now." General Howard answered.

At that moment the screen began to switch over.

"Well hello Rep. Turner, how are you doing today?" John said as a face came onto the screen.

"Oh I have been better President Miller. We are not too pleased to discover that there is a program that has been kept secret from us." Representative Turner responded.

"Please, I have already been reamed for this once today in the Senate. Listen this program is 18 years old, it didn't start with me and..."

"I don't give a damn if it started with you John! You needed to tell us. We are not a government run by a God damn dictator! You don't have the authority to make war either. You sent these men, that we had no knowledge of..." Representative Turner fumed.

"Men and women with all due respect." John interjected.

"OK these men and women that we had no knowledge of were sent in to a foreign country, on a mission we were only vaguely informed of, with misleading information. Heads are going to roll John!"

"You can start making the heads roll after the country is safe Rep. Turner. I did what I felt was best in the moment. You can be angry about it but it can't be undone. You should have the full details of the program there with you now, we sent them over. We are not trying to keep anything fro...."

"John you kept a whole God damn program from us, for three years of your Presidency, do you really think we can trust that you have given us all the details now?" Representative Turner asked.

"I understand why you are not feeling trustful at the moment if that is what you are asking. But I assure you I am trying to keep the country safe." John said.

"You can't act unilaterally John and you know that. But given what we have seen the committee has decided to work with the rest of the house to give you the freedom to proceed for now. I want to be kept up to date on EVERY development from here on out. Is that understood?"

"Yes Rep. Turner, I understand."

"When this is all over, I expect to see YOU, not one of your lackey's but YOU, here before this committee. We are going to give you the grilling of a lifetime." Representative Turner stated angrily.

"I have no doubts that you will." John responded.

The screen then switched back to the Code Blue soldiers, some of who were running along the path following the tracks on foot.

"That definitely could have gone better..." John said looking at General Howard.

"Yeah, but I can understand why they are not pleased." The general responded.

"Me too general, me too."

Just then John noticed something in the distance on one of the soldiers cameras.

"What is that general? Are those people?" John asked.

The general signaled to the technician to zoom in. The zoom was able to confirm what John was seeing. Two people, one holding on to the other, were running at a fairly quick pace up the road. One appeared to have some injury as he was leaning on the other while hobbling along mostly on one foot.

"They are moving pretty fast considering one of them is injured. These must be the terrorists!" John exclaimed.

John and the general watched as their soldiers started gaining ground on the two terrorists.

"Give them the order to shoot general! We can't let them get away!"

The soldier closest to the terrorists was close enough to take a shot. He stopped and took aim and began to shoot.
