Chapter 291

As soon as Hendrix finished speaking, Noelle suddenly stepped forward and raised her hand. But her slap never landed. Hendrix had caught her wrist, his face completely expressionless.noveldrama

"You're crazy!" Noelle said.

Hendrix smiled faintly. "Yeah, I know."

Noelle didn't say another word, but she trembled even more violently as tears began to fall. Still, it seemed she refused to show any weakness in front of Hendrix. So, she quickly wiped away her tears. "Dylan's grandfather is sick," she finally told Hendrix. "Alzheimer's. His condition is deteriorating quickly, and he might not remember anything soon. That's why Dylan proposed to me."

But when she finished speaking, the answer she wanted never came.

Hendrix's gaze remained cold as he looked at her. When he noticed Noelle was still staring at him, he even asked, " So? What does that have to do with me?"

Noelle took a deep breath. "So, could the wedding-

"No," Hendrix cut her off without hesitation, and Noelle's question was left unspoken.

She slowly clenched her hands into fists. "Can't you make even the slightest compromise? Hendrix, do you really have to force me into a comer?"

Hendrix chuckled. "How is this forcing you? If they hadn't pulled a stunt like this, how could I have gotten this leverage? Him getting sick? That's just karma-divine retribution. You can feel sorry for them, so why can't you feel sorry for me?

"They're pitiful? What about me-the one you left behind? Am I not pitiful? Have you forgotten how you treated me before?"

Hendrix looked at her intently, as if he truly believed he was the one who had been wronged.

But how could he feel wronged? This was nothing more than a disguise-a wolf in sheep's clothing. The biggest mistake Noelle had ever made was trusting him in the first place.

Back then, she had actually thought she had the upper hand in their relationship-or at the very least, that they stood on equal ground.

But now, she finally understood-Hendrix had never thought that way. To him, equality didn't matter. Who had the upper hand or who didn't was irrelevant. The only thing that mattered was that they had to be

together.

He had fallen into the abyss, and what he wanted was for Neelle to stay down there with him. The moment she even thought of escaping, he would reach out and drag her back the instant she tried to stand.

That was the outcome he desired. He wouldn't care even if ragging her down meant she'd be shattered into pieces.

Noelle stopped speaking. The hand that had been struggling moments ago now fell limply to her side. Then, she slowly closed her eyes.

It was hard to say how much time passed before she finally spoke, "Hendrix, I will hate you." "Mm, I know."

"Even if I agree to your terms, we can never go back to how things were. I will never love you again." Chapter 291

"That's fine. As long as you're here, that's all that matters. As he said this, Hendrix smiled in satisfaction. "So, have you made your decision?"

Noelle said nothing more, but tears continued to stream down her face. The cold drops fell onto the back of Hendrix's hand, and slowly, the smile on his lips began to fade.
