Chapter 2: Life of Bob

Chapter 2: Life of Bob

I awoke to the sun’s beams on my eyes, and the first thing I felt was the hunger and the thirst of my body.

Groggily, I looked around my room. But in the next second my eyes shot open.

At first, I thought that I had been kidnaped. I did not remember falling asleep on this bed and in this room and I became flustered. However, after a few moments I regained my bearings.

“Right, new world and shit. Great. So, it wasn’t a dream.”

I then started to take note of the sunrise over the ocean through my windows. Cautiously, I exited my house and took in all the beauty of the first sunrise of a new day in a new world.

"This place isn't so bad."

After admiring the beauty, I looked around where I was again. The sun’s illumination could provide some baring’s for me, but contrary to my hope, there was none. The coastline continued to the north and the mountains cut the coastline to the south, so I could not see if there was anything to the south.

I then looked at the forests behind my cabin. What I found was an almost endless green with nothing to stop it.

Disappointed in my findings, I returned to my little cabin and sat at my table.

“Ok. So, first things first. I need to make a list of what I need to do so that I can have some purpose and allow me to map my goals.”

I then created a notepad and a pen from my Design Board.

“I’m really starting to enjoy the Design Board’s usefulness.”

After obtaining the notepad and pen, I got to work writing down my goals and ways to accomplish them. I tried to be as practical as possible so that I could stick to them and hopefully survive.

[Goals:

  1.  Survive

      -  Food

        ~  Hunt or fish?

      -  Water

~  Try and find a freshwater stream or look for a fruit that houses some form of water

~  Try the ocean water? Maybe it is drinkable?

      -  Shelter

        ~  Got it.

  2.  Defense

      -  Get stronger stats

        ~  Find out how

      -  Learn to use weapons, make traps for small game

        ~  Practice

      -  Companion? Guard?

~  Find out if the creatures you make are able to serve me and not attack me

⌐ Possibly use them to protect me or find food

  3.  Godhood

      -  Make decision on what to do

        ~  Either kill other guy

~  Or try taking over world(dumb idea, never works out, don’t do that me)

  4.  Learn more of this world

      -  Make contact with natives of land

      -  Find out what strong stats are

      -  Find out where I am

      -  Find out how to survive in this world

      -  Find library or books on world

  5.  Divinity Store

      -  Experiment more with it

      -  See what else I can create, find limits

      -  See how to replenish Divinity Points(I know I have a lot, but its better find this out sooner rather than later)]

After looking over my list, I nodded my head.

“This is a good start. Now, what should I do fist.”

After saying that, my stomach started to grumble.

“Well, that was an easy decision. Food and water it is. Now, how will I find some. I can probably put off the food part for now and try hunting for a fresh water source. Should I try climbing down the cliff, or should I try and find a place that meets the ocean? If I’m able to reach the ocean water, then I could try and see if the ocean water is drinkable here. Hmmmm……..”

“Rejected. Too much work for something that I think would be a failure right of the bat, but if I can’t find a water source in the forest, then I’ll have to come back to it.”

Then an idea struck me.

“What about my Divinity Store.  It did say that I would be able to create anything.  Maybe I can create water and food.

I then opened up my Design Board.

“If I can create clothes and a house with this, then maybe I can create water and food from here?”

I then tried to make water from my New Design board, but no matter how many times I tried thinking about it or trying to visualize water, the Design Board could not make it.

“Dang it. Well, at least I found one of the limits of the Design Board.”

I then decided to try and make some food from the Design Board. From that, I found success, but only on certain things. I found that I could make basic fruits and vegetables, but not soups or more complex dishes. I think it was the same thing with the car. I understood what a car was, but I did not know how to make the engine or the complex wiring and such in it.

This interesting experiment allowed me to understand the Design Board more.  From my experiments, I also found that the design board could not only create basic things, but it could also create complex things that I knew how to make.  For example, I could create complex dishes that I learned and created from my world, but I could not create those complex dishes that I didn’t know how to make.

For example, I used to cook pancakes and pie in my world and because I knew each part needed to make those dishes, I could create them in the Design Board.

However, this did not help me in acquiring a fresh water source.

But then I had a revelation. It related to what I was doing the night before with adding abilities to my gloves.  What if I could add the water to a piece of equipment?

This time I tried to make a water container that could house water, and, to my surprise, it worked.

I immediately hit create, and in 10 seconds I took out the water bottle from my inventory. I then opened it up and found clean drinking water inside.

This was another thing I noticed from the Design Board. It could not create strait water, it needed something to house the water for it to create it. My first guess would be that the inventory can’t accept just water into it. This hypothesis was found true when I tried pouring water back into the inventory.

This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.

The result from that experiment was just a wet mess.

I then tried putting the water bottle back into the inventory, and it worked. I even took it out and put it back in again.

'It seams that my inventory could house my items for easy storage.'

I also noticed that the water wasn’t filled up after taking it out of the inventory again, so I could only assume that the Design Board put the water in it in the beginning and the inventory could not refill it.

“OK. So now that I have my water and food taken care of, I can now focus on other things.”

I then looked over my list and decided to tackle defense.

“I don’t really know how to raise my stats, but if I follow game logic then I just have to kill something and try and level up to improve them right? But I am not certain about going into the forest yet. If this is like how that god said, then I could possibly die from just the most random and weakest of the monsters and beasts. I think it would be better to focus on other ways to get stronger first and then come back to that.”

I then looked at making myself a few more knives of varying sizes and a sword and a shield.  I also created new clothes with better defenses than the ones before too.  I changed into my new clothes and placed most of the knives and equipment in my inventory.  I did keep a few knives out and placed them around my little cabin.  I put one in each corner and one under my bed and pillow for emergencies.

This was just for precaution so that I could be prepared in the event that I am attacked and I have to move to a place without a viable weapon to defend myself.  I am a very cautious man.

Then I decided to tackle the most pressing matter concerning my powers, creating creatures.  First, I wanted to see what creating these creatures was like, and then  inspect how the react to me and the surroundings.  I also needed to test and see if what I create would be loyal and obey me.

“Ok. So, if I’m going to do this then I should do this right. I don’t want to die from my own creation.  I’m not Dr. Frankenstein.”

I then walked outside of my house and created a shovel. I then picked a place far enough from the cliff with dirt from the forest, but close enough to my house, so that I could run to my house if necessary.

I then began to dig in the dirt for a few hours. I dug a hole 9 ft deep and 4 ft wide. I then made a ladder to get out of the hole and pulled the ladder out with me.

“Alright, let me see if I got everything. Hole, check. Weapons, check. Shield, check. Protective clothes, check. Ok. I think I’m ready to create.”

I then brought up the creation screen and clicked skeleton.  I choose skeleton due to, from my understanding of games, their weak bodies and desire to kill the living.  I also chose the skeleton because I could determine if my creations would obey me and if it didn’t then I could just kill it easily.

At least, that is what I was hoping.

After clicking skeleton a new screen popped up and the same green outline appeared in my sight.  Interestingly, this outline was smaller than the house’s outline and was circular in shape.

After looking over the new screen I grew excited. From what I learned over my experiments, I could change anything that had a plus or a minus next to it. But what I was most excited about was the personality part of the screen.

“If I could possibly change the personality to not being able to hurt me then I could make the skeleton work for me and not have to worry about it attacking me.”

I then calmed myself down and looked over the stats again. I compared the stats of a skeleton to my stats. I then grew disheartened. While my stats weren’t as bad as the skeletons, what my stats did show was that I was not much better than a simple skeleton.

I then decided to change some things on his stats and before hitting create.

After looking everything over again and making sure that the outline was in the hole, I hit create.

After waiting 10 seconds a white, human, 6-foot-tall skeleton appeared in the hole. Its bare-naked bones shining in the sunlight. Its skull turned and looked up at me. I could see tiny lights flickering in the eye sockets.

Neither of us moved. We were both studying each other and waiting for the first to move.

‘Holy crap! It’s an actual skeleton. I don’t see any wires or anything holding up the bones. Well, I guess it could be magic that’s holding them together. Still, it is super creepy having it appear out of nowhere.’

The only sound between us was the crashing of the waves from the ocean not far away.

‘Well, it didn’t try to kill me right off the bat so that’s good. I wonder if I can give it an order.’

“I am your master! Jonathan! You are not allowed to hurt me or kill me, and you will obey my every command. Nod your head once if you understand.”

The skeleton nodded its head.

‘Shit! That was so cool!  I told it to nod its head and it did it!  OK, ok, calm down.  Let’s not get ahead of ourselves.’

I then tried some simple orders.

“Jump once.”

It jumped once.

What followed was a series of experiments where I asked the skeleton in the hole to do a bunch of strange and weird things for me. I wanted to test the limits of my strength over the skeleton. I made it pat its head and do a rubbing motion over where a belly could have been. I made it hop on one foot. I even made it do the disco. After an hour of testing I found that I had complete control over the skeleton.

Then I started the next tests. I took out a simple wooden spear from my inventory and began to stab at the skeleton in the hole. I wanted to see its reaction.

I stabbed it a few times in its head before the skeleton began crumbling to the ground in a heap. Throughout me stabbing it, it did not try and doge it or resist the spear.

I stopped and stared at the crumpled pile of bones.

“So, it would not try and attack me when I made me its master, but what would happen if it was a regular skeleton without me changing its personality.”

I then created another Bob skeleton, but this time I did not change its personality. I kept the stats the same as the last bob skeleton though.

The result was much different than the earlier bob skeleton. When the skeleton appeared in the hole, it screeched/groaned at me. Then it tried to climb out of the hole. I tried telling it to stop and stand still, but it wouldn’t listen, and it continued to try and climb out of the hole.

Immediately, I began stabbing it again with the spear. It took me a little longer because the skeleton was climbing and not standing still, but I still managed to kill it.

“Ok. What I think may have happened is that if I don’t change their personality, then they will stay the same as a regular skeleton and act accordingly to their species.”

I then opened up my stats to see if anything had changed from killing two skeletons.

After looking over my stats again I found that it had added something.

“If my game logic is to be trusted then the 0.2/100% probably is an experience bar, and each skeleton was 0.1% of experience. Hmmmm………I wonder if that is the normal experience % that I would get from killing a skeleton, or if I would get more experience from a skeleton that had regular stats.”

I then tried everything again, but I left the stats as normal for the skeleton.

After appearing, it screeched/groaned at me and tried climbing out of the hole. I tried stabbing it with the spear, but I found it much harder than before. Its increased agility allowed it to doge more of my attacks and it even tried to attack me. Thankfully, it could not get out of the hole, so even with its increased stats, I was able to kill it in 10 minutes or so.

After the bones crumbled to the ground, I sat down next to the hole, panting. I wasn’t an athlete in my old world, but I wasn’t that out of shape either. However, killing that one normal skeleton made me feel like I just finished a run. I was sweating all over and out of breath. I could feel its intent and desire to kill me the whole time too. This only added to my stress and pressure. I had to hope that at least my effort was worth it as I opened my stats again.

“What? All that effort for barley anything!”

After looking it over, I found that a normal skeleton gave me 0.5% experience. I was shocked.

“All of that effort for just 0.5%? That’s crazy! I’m glad I didn’t go out in the forest to hunt then. I would have died almost immediately if I ran into anything that wasn’t trapped and had less intelligence than me.”

What I learned from this experiment would stay as a reminder to me. I was prey here, and until I leveled up and grew stronger, I would be stuck as easy prey. However, I also found that I don’t have to be personally strong right now if I can summon a strong minion.

I went back to my cabin for lunch and a quick rest before coming back to the hole to try something else. What I was going to try would be very dangerous, but if I succeeded, then I could have another layer of defense. If I failed, then I failed, and I would move on to the next idea, but I needed to try this, even if it put my life at risk.

Instead of creating a skeleton in the hole I was going to create one out of the hole. I would take precautions fist, of course.

I would create the skeleton on the other side of the hole, so that if it wanted to get to me it would either have to go around the hole or it would fall right in. I also would lower the stats of the skeleton so that it would be easier to fight. This way, if it all went wrong, then I could easily escape to my cabin or I could stab it a few times to easily kill it before it killed me.

I would also change its personality to that of the first bob skeleton. This way I could really test and see if I had control over the skeleton.

“Ok. Here goes nothing.”

I then hit create on the new Bob skeleton. After I did, the skeleton appeared and just stood there, unmoving. This was a good sign.

“I am your master Jonathan. You will not harm me or try to kill me, and you will obey my every command. If you understand nod your head once.”

The Skeleton nodded its head once.

‘Good. This is going good, but more tests are needed.’

“Good. Now, take 3 steps backwards.”

The skeleton took 3 steps backwards. I then proceeded to do all the same tests I did before with the first bob skeleton. After an hour of intense experiments, I determined that the skeleton would not try and harm me and it would follow my every command. I then created another skeleton with the same personality as the first, but I left its stats as normal. What I got was also good results.

Both skeletons would obey my every command, and, from my perspective, they did not have any intention of killing or harming me.

‘Good. This is very good. Now I have some guards.’

I wasn’t yet able to trust them with weapons yet, but I would allow them to come closer to me. I lifted up my shield and held my sword and commanded the weaker skeleton to walk around the hole and stand in front of me.

The sight of seeing a 6-foot-tall, white, human skeleton standing in front of you is surreal to the extreme. I felt strange, but I did not feel any hostility from the skeleton, nor did I see it try and attack me, which was good.

‘OK. That test went well. Now let’s try something else.’

I created a wooden stick shaped sword and I placed it on the ground in front of me. I backed up a few paces and I told the skeleton to pick it up. When he did, I noticed no hostility nor intent to attack me. This was all good.

I then commanded him to go to one of the trees at the edge of the forest and attack it with the wooden sword.

After I gave the skeleton the command, he acted. The skeleton ran to the tree and started to hit the wooden sword against a medium sized tree at the edge of the forest frantically. He wasn’t doing much damage, but I could see and feel his intent to attack the tree. This was something I did not feel when he looked at me. This made me feel much better, because it meant the skeleton would not attack me if I did not tell it to.

I then told the skeleton to stop and to come back to me. I then proceeded to do the same experiments on the other skeleton until I was satisfied.

After a few hours and once I felt comfortable with the skeletons, I gave them a new order.

“Watch the forest, if anything comes out except for me, attack it, and if you can, kill it, unless it is another human. If it is another human, then subdue it and take away its weapons. If you understand nod your head once.”

Both Bob skeletons nodded their heads. I felt much more secure now that I had some guards. They may be weak, but they would cause a ruckus and it would allow me ample time to prepare.

I then returned to my cabin and shut the door. As I entered back inside my house, the sun began to set.

“All in all, a good day. I found out a lot more about my abilities and this world, and I got some new guards. I feel much safer now. But just in case, I should try to make some more guards tomorrow and beef up my defenses. Hmmmm…..I wonder if I can make a wall with my Design Board. I guess I’ll have to check tomorrow.”

I then made myself a great dinner and then a wooden couch to sit in front and block the door at night.

‘I may have lowered my guard around the skeletons I created, but I didn’t want one to just be able to stroll into my cabin unabated. Cautiousness is king!’

I chuckled and then went to sleep.
