Jason’s eyes fly open. He groans from the pain coming from all over his body. He was sore and in pain but from what he didn’t know. He tried to stay still as best as he could to minimize the pain. Once the pain waned a little bit, he took in his surroundings. He was in a bright room lit by fluorescent lights. The room is occupied by a wooden nightstand set next to the bed he’s laying in, an IV machine and then a chair. The chair is occupied by a woman in a white coat.
The Woman looks to be around her mid thirties and has golden hair. She looks up when she notices him waking up.The most striking thing about her is not her face, which is quite beautiful, but her eyes. They are a deep green. There’s a light green band around her iris only noticeable if you are looking directly in her eyes. After a moment she clears her throat trying to get his attention.
“Ahh, good you’re finally awake,” she says with a soft voice,” My name is Dr. Cromwell. How are you feeling?”
“I’m… fine….,’ he replies in a harsh and dry voice
Dr. Cromwell gets up and fills a glass with water and hands it to him. Jason drinks it down fast noticing how thirsty he was. He hands her the cup again. Dr. Cromwell refills the glass and gives it back. After the fourth cup he slows down and drinks a little bit.
“Ahh good. Wouldn’t want to let you die of dehydration after all the trouble i’ve gone through in order to keep you alive”.
That's when he remembers all those times he got stabbed by the steel eyed man. He checks his stomach and thighs but he can’t find any stab wounds. All he finds are small scars where he was stabbed. He looks up at the doctor with a confused look.
“I know. Not my best handiwork but you did get here pretty close to death. I had to focus more on the internal bleeding.”
Jason looks at her with more confusion. He’s never heard of medicine healing that fast especially stab wounds. Unless…..
“How long have I been here?”
“Oh, not long, a day or two”.
‘That doesn’t add up, I would have accepted a week or two but not a day?’, he thinks,’ What’s going on?’
He opens his mouth to ask but Dr.cromwell beats him to it.
“Okay. My turn to ask questions. What’s your name?”
“Jason Pierce”
“Okay Mr. Pierce. Do you know what happened to you?”
“.....My mom…..”, he replies.
Jason remembers coming home and finding his mother in a pool of blood. He remembers the men that killed her, that tried to kill him. Somehow he survived.
“What about your mom Mr.Pierce?”
“She’s dead……...they killed her.”
Dr.Cromwell panics. “What do you mean? Who killed your mother?”
“I…..don’t know,” tears start to run down his face, “there were two men. They were both covered in black except for their eyes.”
Dr.Cromwell gets up and starts pacing.”It's what we thought. They found her. I have to tell him”, she mutters to herself.
“What do you mean them? Who were they?”, Jason asks while tears continue to fall.
Dr.Cromwell heads to the door.
“Wait. Who are they?”, Jason yells but she continues to leave ignoring his question. He gets out of the bed and tries to follow her. He goes to open the door but it's locked. He bangs on the door trying to get any ones attention but no one comes to his help.
“Please, Tell me”, he yells through the door but no one answers.
He slides down against the door. Tears start to fall once again.
He stays like that long after he’s run out tears. Waiting for her to come back again.
After another hour or so he gets up and heads to the restroom. He stoppes at the sink and looks at his reflection. His eyes are rimmed red from all the crying. His eyes are different from what he remembers. His light brown eyes are surrounded by a deep red band. He blinks a few times thinking it might be a hallucination but it’s still there when he looks again
He touches the mirror to see if there's something wrong with it but it feels like a normal mirror. Then the brown is gone from his eyes and is replaced by a glowing deep red. A red bolt leaves his hands and shatters the mirror. He recoils from the shattered mirror. The pieces fall on the floor and create a huge sound in the quiet night. Even though it is pretty late in the night Dr. Cromwell barges into the room with nurses on her heels. She scans the room looking for the problem. When she lays eyes on Jason she goes over. ”what happened?”

Jason just stares at her with wide eyes and doesn’t respond. There’s a gasp from behind the doctor and one of the nurses says,” mam, look at his hand it's covered in blood, we should treat it before he gets an infection.”
“Yes, I will treat it.”
The nurses nod and head back to their posts. Dr. Cromwell picks Jason up off the floor and leads him back to the bed.
“The mirror shattered, when I touched it,” Jason whispers after the doctor helps him to his bed. "I touched it and and a red bolt hit the mirror and it shattered"
Dr. Cromwell looks at him and is about to say something when she is interrupted by Jason.
“I mean how is that possible? I touched it and it shattered. My eyes flashed red and then the mirror shattered. Am I going crazy?”
“No, your not going crazy,” Dr. Cromwell replies, “ That's just your ability awakening.”
“What do you mean ability?”
“I mean their are some people who have awakened some sort of power that has been dormant in us.”
“ How is this possible? How come i’ve never heard about them?”
“Well some people know about us, but that's usually because someone in their family has awakened their ability. You have heard about incidents that were caused by people with abilities but they have been covered up by a government organization.”
“You keep saying us. Are you like me.”
“Yes, but everyone has a different ability.”
“What’s your ability?”
“You know that already, How else do you think your stab wounds healed so fast, but I guess i’ll show you.”
Dr.Cromwell grabs his injured hand and she begins to clean the blood all around the cut. When there is no more blood she puts her hand on top of his. It itches for a brief second and then the itchiness is gone. She removes her hand showing no cut or even the evidence of one ever being there..
Jason looks up and sees the forest green of the doctor’s eyes gone and replaced by a lighter shade of green. After a moment the color fades back into her normal forest green. Jason says nothing, trying to take in what he just saw.
“So your ability is to heal?”
“Yes. I can’t heal myself but I can heal other people as long as I can supply the energy for the healing process.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means I can’t heal anyone if I don't have any energy,” she pauses,”with that said I have to go get some food in me or ill pass out, it's been a long day. Go to sleep Jason we will talk about this in the morning.”
Jason nods and lays back down in his bed. It's too late by the time he remembers to ask about the people that killed his mother. The moon shines through the window bathing him in moonlight. He falls asleep thinking about how he’ll get answers from Dr.Cromwell.

Jason wakes up to a man in a tailored black suit humming to himself, while reading a magazine on male fashion. The man has short dark hair and an angular face. He looks up from his magazine and notices Jason is staring at him. When they meet eyes, Jason notices the man’s eyes are a very dark brown almost black and their surrounded by a snowy white band. Jason waits for the man to speak, but he just sits there observing Jason.
After a couple of minutes of silence the man speaks in a deep voice, ”good morning, Jason, my name is Jordan Sin”. Jason says nothing. James goes on, “How are you this lovely morning?”
Jason says, “What do you want?”
“Ahh, I like someone who gets straight to the point,”, he replies,”I'm here to offer you a place at Cain Academy.”
