Chapter 387

DANE

“So what do you think about the interiors?” I asked Aurora with a smile on my face as we headed to the elevator.

“Dane!!”

I stopped as I heard Aurora scream my name, “Aurora!!” I called out as I saw her far behind me, tripping on a pool of

water.

How is she there? I thought she was right behind me?

I raced to her and as she was about to hit the ground, I caught her by the wrist.

I pulled her close, and we stumbled on the slippery floor. Instinctively, I wrapped my arm around her, holding her tightly against me while shielding her head.

We rolled over and I used my body to shield her, my shoulder bashing the ground and I groaned out in pain.

She stopped falling and I stayed frozen with her for a while. She shifted and I let go of her and cupped her face, “Are you alright?”

She stood there, shaken and silent, her wide eyes blinking

rapidly. Her flushed cheeks and reddened ears made it clear- she was terrified.

I stood up

and helped her to her feet, pulling her into a tight embrace. Gently running my hand through her hair, I whispered, “You’re okay… you’re safe…”

She broke free from the hug and looked at me, “Thank you.

Dane.”

She looked around at the people that had stopped to watch, they started to disperse, but Aurora seemed to be looking for something else.

“What are you looking for?” I looked at the ground as I tried to check for her. “Did you lose something?”

She shook her head, and pointed at the spot where we tripped,

“Where is he?”

I furrowed my brows as I looked around. “Who?”

“The cleaner.”

I shook my head. ‘I don’t know… let’s go,” I took her hand and held it tightly this time, not letting her slip again from me.

We got into the elevator, but Aurora’s mind seemed preoccupied.

I chose to let it go… maybe it was just because of the fall.

The elevator chimed and we went out of it, we got to room 100. I swiped the key card and we went in.

Aurora sat on the bed as she placed her head on her arms. I

stood by the door as I stared at her in worry.

“Aurora?” I called, she turned to me, her face blank. “Is something on your mind?”

She nodded her head and smiled. “But don’t worry, I know the moon goddess will help me figure this out.”

“Wow,” I said as I walked up to her, “Why trouble the moon. goddess when I am here?” I sat by her side as I held her shoulders and gave her soft massages.

She stood up suddenly, “Dane you won’t understand, I just want you to trust me… I will tell you when the time is right.”

I gritted my teeth as I watched her pace the room.

Her agitation is putting me on edge and I didn’t want to bother her but I knew she was not going to tell me even if I press on. noveldrama

I rested my chin on my palm, my gaze fixed on her. I had planned a special dinner for her, but ever since I saw her this morning at the hospital cottage, something about her behavior. had felt off–distant, almost strange.

“Maybe I made a mistake?” I blurted out and she turned to me.

Her eyes softened as she walked up to me. “Honey… this is not

about you okay, just that I need to get some work done… and I wish I could tell you, but I can’t do that… unfortunately.”

What work was she talking about? Was it related to what she was talking to Miles about?

I bit my bottom lip. “You don’t trust me enough to tell me.”

She shook her head softly. “Dane, you’re the one I trust most in

this world.”

“But does anyone else know about this thing that I don’t?”

She paused and licked her bottom lip, her eyes traveling the room. I know that expression, she doesn’t want to tell me the truth, probably not to hurt my feelings but, I felt hurt already.

“I see you don’t want to reply… that means other people know about this so–called secret work and the person you trust most in this world has no idea.”

She shook her head, “It’s not like that, Dane… I said I will tell you when the time is right.”

I stared into her eyes and as I hooked her, I asked, “Does Miles

know about this?”

She blinked and her eyes dimmed in a way that I also

understand. I smiled at her.

“Wow… Luna… you seemed to have other better acquaintances huh… your Alpha is no more your friend, huh?”

I bit my bottom lip as I felt a pang of jealousy in my chest. It hurt to know Aurora was keeping something from me and other people knew about it… I thought I should be her first, like the first to know about every development in her life.

“I shouldn’t have bothered bringing you here. I shouldn’t have interrupted you with a date when your work is clearly more important,” I said, emphasizing the word “your.” She seemed preoccupied with her own priorities now anyway.

Aurora sighed and she tried to hold my hand, but I got up and started to take off my suit. I placed it in the wardrobe and I took off my shirt as well, leaving just my pants on.

I feel hot… even with the AC on, maybe it’s because of the anger I was trying to hide. I know she is stressed but this is unacceptable for me.

I picked up the phone, “Hello… cancel the order, the date is cancelled… you could just bring a single course meal for my wife, I have lost my appetite.”

I dropped the phone after cancelling the order. I had made arrangements as the waiters were going to set up a date table for us in the room. But it’s no use now.

I crawled on the bed avoiding Aurora’s piercing gaze, I am not going to fall for her baby eyes now.

“Good night,” I growled and closed my eyes.
