Chapter 62 | Winter of Death

Chapter 62 | Winter of Death

Finally, light emitted from the book, strangely turning crimson red. Its monotonous sound was strained, as if something strangled it. “Evaluation End. The End of world calamity tier. Red Witch, the Demon Lord of the North. Eternal Karmic. Annihilate the negative. All units of holy order unite the light to eradicate the devil. Regardless of a life.”

Rain’s eyes widened. “Faye!”

The Red Witch stood in front of Rain, saying, “Oopsie~ Darling, does that mean declaring war, right?” Her eyes transformed into vertical lines.

“What is this…” Warmund’s eyes widened in shock, his light turning dark.

Faye gazed at him, her smile growing wider. “I believe your Emotion Crystal has mediocre quality. Your fear surpasses that of a mere black hue.” She tapped her heel on the floor, causing the surrounding snow to melt into a stream.

“Faye, please show mercy to him. He’s just a young child,” Rain said.

“Don’t worry, Darling. I won’t use any gems or swords. I simply wish to… play,” Faye teased. The air thickened, and the temperature abruptly rose. “However, he will perish if he’s not a strong enough plaything.”

Then she turned her head, her eyes glowing red, and extended her hand. “I am Fayeleel Carren, The Red Witch, the Demon Lord of the North. In this distorted world, I shall grant you a great wish,” she declared. Her voice resonated with a parallel dimension, and the air grew scorching hot.

Willna shouted, “run, Mundi, run, now!”

Warmund’s body froze as he realized he didn’t know what he should do. He glanced around the area, desperately searching for someone who could help him.

But the Blue Fairy gazed at him with icy eyes, and the rim of her holy book pulsed with a red color, alerting her to an imminent calamity. However, she seemed unconcerned. She severed all ties to assist the holy order on the front.

“Why?” he asked, quickly turning to the Golden Saint for help.

Their book also displayed a red alert. Yet, the Golden Saint and her followers looked at him with pity in their eyes. They hadn’t even touched their books, refusing any call from the codex order.

“What is going on? Saint Sky piercer, as the ruler of the city, is it your duty to protect us?” he said, his sweat turning into white steam. A magic pentagram slowly formed beneath his feet, with red lines connecting into a fiery triangle. The screeching sound emitted from the carved bricks was clearly audible.

Ella’s face turned grim as she spoke in a low voice. “Yes, I will protect the town and people. But you have crossed out of the line of the Holy on your own.”

Faye extended her hand, the rings on her fingers glowing brightly. “I will grant you a lifetime ticket…”

Warmund shook his head in disbelief at what he heard. Willna continued to shout, but her voice couldn’t penetrate his at all. She desperately wanted to run and save him, but Rain embraced her, blocking her path.

Finally, Faye finished casting her spell, “that will transport you to an Endless world.” She clenched her fist.

The fire tower soared higher into the sky, turning the night sky crimson and painting every house in the city red.

“Space cull!” Willna shouted, reaching out her hand.

Her spell dragged Warmund out of the flame tower. His back was charred and smoke rose from his wounds. Thanks to his dress, the fire did not catch on him, leaving only burns, but scorching burns.

“Arrgggehhhh.” He rolled on the floor, hoping the snow would ease his pain. But he forgot that all the snow had already melted, leaving only a scorching hot floor.

Chaarr! The burning sensation made him scream again. He quickly sat up with a grimace. His bloodshot eyes focused on Faye. “Wicked demon lord!”

Faye tilted her head, confused by his words. “So? What are you trying to say?” She didn’t want to speak with him and turned her attention back to Willna. “Little Lady, please don’t interrupt my play again, okay?” Faye’s eyes glowed a crimson red, and the floor beneath her started to melt.

Willna trembled in fear, her face draining of color. Tears streamed down her face, and if she hadn’t been supported by a cursed child, she would have already passed out.

“Fayleel, can you play outside, or at least in the sky? This house is too small for your theatrical display,” Rain said firmly.

Faye’s eyes widened slightly, and a small smile formed at the corner of her mouth. “Darling, you know, I like you more and more with every word you speak. At this rate, I might just have to say that I love—”

Space Crush.

Every brick in the area started to rise, crushed under the immense pressure at the center.

Faye swiftly raised her hand, and all the bricks held their positions. She then turned her head towards Warmund, and her eyes transformed into dark star shapes. The hem of her skirt fluttered as she spoke. “Pest, has your father not taught you that it’s bad manners to interrupt an adult’s conversation?”

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

Warmund was shocked, his hand still hanging in the air. “That’s impossible. My skills are Level Five, just one flick…” Something emitted within his mind when he saw the dark eyes of the demon lord. It was something that he had not experienced in a long time.

It was fear.

And despair.

A black cloud stormed within his heart. His brain told him to flee that “Devil…” Cleng! Cleng! His sword fell from his hand. With trembling legs, he wanted to run. Every instinct, every strand of his hair, told him the same word: “Run.”

But a dark voice interrupted his will. “Where are you going?” Red eyes locked onto him.

He stepped back, hearing a charred sound behind his back. The smell of burning meat filled the air. His head shook, fearing her eyes, wanting to turn left.

Jingle! Faye flicked her hand, and an invisible force locked onto his head.

“Are you saying you have space magic level five?” Faye asked, her voice mixed with disdain. “This is the special gift, before you go to the nothingness. I will teach you how to utilize the space.”

Faye pointed her finger towards the sky. “Space dislocates.”

Swoosh! In just a second, Warmund’s body flew into the sky.

Faye turned her face towards Rain and said, “Darling, may I play in the sky? Is that alright?”

Rain nodded and replied, “Thank you. I hope you have a good time.”

Faye looked at him for a moment, smiled, and then said, “I really like your ‘thank you.’” She waved her hand in front of her, and the space split into two, revealing a dark sky inside and a view of White Rey city from above. She stepped into the portal, waved her hand at him briefly, and then the space closed.

Everyone fell silent in awe as they witnessed the sudden change happening in the town. The people were both feared and confused as the holy books blinking in red. The beacon’s light fought against the red flame tower, all hearts raced like fire, even in the cursed child.

Suddenly, Rain touched the ground, and his hand began to burn. “She changed the air spirit to a fire spirit. It’s too hot. People can’t withstand this.”

Aria, Ella, and Rave quickly approached him.

Aria touched his hand and water started to heal his wound. “Rain, we should leave now.”

Rain shook his head. “We can’t, Aria. We can’t leave the citizens to suffer the consequences of our actions.”

Willna sat nearby, still and silent. “Sorry, brother. It’s all my fault.”

Rain patted her hand. “Don’t worry, we’ll fix it together. Okay, Anna?”

Willna simply lowered her head as tears streamed down her face.

Then Rain looked at Ella and their eyes locked. The red tower reflected in his eyes, while the white beam reflected in hers. There was silence between them, but the white light sparked their connection first.

“Rain, use your plan. You’re better at helping people,” Ella said, her voice gentle and caring.

Rain nodded. “Thank you, Lady Elmyra.” Then he turned to Aria. “Aria, please create an exile zone. Lower the temperature as much as possible and create a water barrier to block Faye’s incoming fire. She’s going to hit harder soon.” Rain touched the star coiling within him. “Ria, go help sister Aria find the balance, okay?”

Yes bother.

The star moved and coiled around Aria, causing her body to startle slightly. Warmth rushed through her as she saw a girl with golden hair waving at her. Then, she quickly looked at Rain. “Rain…she…”

Rain smiled and said, “I hope that River mother will stay with both of you.”

Aria’s hair danced in the light, softly brushing past her eyes. “You too,” she replied. Standing up, she tapped her heel on the floor once, returning the air to its normal temperature. A soft breeze enveloped everyone, making the air easier to breathe. She swiftly dashed out, with a little star following her.

Rain’s eyes returned to their usual night color as he looked at Rave. “Red Thug, this is a difficult task. Are you okay?”

Rave smiled widely. “I like it. Tell me, Rockman.”

Rain smiled back. “Go talk to her,” he said, pointing to the sky.

Rave was taken aback. “That’s real Hell, Rockman.”

“Just keep talking to her. She loves to talk. Just don’t fear her and don’t lie,” Rain said.

Red Thug stared at Rockman. “I will try my luck.”

“Thank you.”

Fire danced on Rave’s feet, forming a ring of flames. His hair and shawl fluttered as he slowly floated up into the air.

Rain’s eyes sparkled with amazement at Rave’s magic. “So cool,” he exclaimed.

Rave smiled and said, “Big brother Rockman, I have to tell you something. I’m taller than you now, so it will be harder and harder to disguise myself as you. Please rise up higher soon.” With that, he dashed off into the sky, leaving a grumpy child on the stone floor shocked by his words.

Rain regained his senses and took a deep breath. “Cookatooooo bastard!”

“I heard you, Rockman!” Rave’s voice echoed from afar, gradually fading away, but filled with happiness.

Rain gazed at Ella and said, “Teach him manners.”

Ella replied, “Teach yourself first.”

Willna retrieved a milk bottle from her storage space.

Rain put it in his bag and said, “Thank you, Angel.”

Ella was displeased with Rain for calling Willna an angel, especially since his voice carried such a special sweetness that he didn’t share with just anyone. In irritation, she quickly reached for the black holy book and struck his arm.

Pluck!

“Ouch, that hurt. My body is as weak as a branch. If you hit me like that, I’ll turn into a broken stick, you know,” Rain said as he rubbed his arm.

“Who said that you like being punched directly more?” Ella said as she tossed the book at him.

“I did say that… but what is this?”

“Holy book.”

“I can’t use holy power.”

“It’s a fake book, no power, just for show.”

Rain flipped through the pages, all of them blank. “Wow, that’s so cool. What’s it called?”

“The Black Whisperer.”

“Pfff, what a childish name, the Black Whisperer.”

Ella’s face turned red with anger. “Ahhhh, give it back.” She reached out her hand to grab the book, but Rain swiftly lifted it up, evading her hand. Ella continued to try to catch it, but Rain skillfully evaded all her attempts.

A small smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. “Thank you, Ella.”

She crossed her arms and huffed, “Humph!”

Rain looked at her with softened eyes. “Can you turn into an angel?”

Ella started and gazed at him in surprise. “What…”

“We have to find everyone who is trapped and change the temperature in the pipeline. Ella, please use your Divine Retention. People need your help,” Rain said urgently.

Ella was taken aback, but she quickly composed herself. “… Also, this thing too.” Ella looked at Willna.

“It’s okay, she’s with us, and she can keep secrets. The fact that she is still in the White Rey Fort is proof,” Rain said confidently.

Willna swiftly nodded and tugged on Rain’s arm.

Ella gazed at her. “I trust you because I trust him. But if you leak anything, I will kill him first before your eyes. You will see him die painfully, and then I will kill you in the same way. That will make you reflect on his death twice, okay?” Ella’s eyes shone brightly.

Willna shook her head, tears welling up, and held Rain’s arm tightly. “Sorry, sorry, Saint Ella. Please kill me first—”

Pluck! Rain playfully chopped off Willna’s head. “She’s just teasing. Don’t believe everything the Saints say.” He then looked at Ella. “See, she’s with us.”

Ella smiled and closed her eyes. She uttered the words inside her mind, “Divine Retention.” A halo of light formed on her head, and she slowly opened her eyes, which shone golden.

Willna covered her mouth in awe. “Holy child.”

The light halo reflected in Rain’s eyes as he whispered, “The Golden Seraph.”
