Chapter 37 : Sun Feather [Log]

Sunny bright in the town, with the sound of the river resonating with wind chimes. A gentle breeze made people laugh and feel happy. A crowd of people lined up in front of the food display in the cafeteria, talking to each other. The aroma of sweet and gentle floated through the air.

A young lady with chestnut brown hair and brown eyes stepped up next to the order line. She was wearing a formal royal white dress and skirt suit that matched her lovely body size. On her chest, she had a badge with a symbol of a river and a star.

In front of her were several trays filled with different types of food. Standing front of her was a white cat with a pink nose, standing on its hind legs on a tall chair. The cat was wearing a cook’s apron and had a spatula in its hand, smiling at the lady. “Student Ria, what would you like today? Nya.”

“Hi Miss Whitepaw, I’m not sure. Can you recommend something, or do you have any new menu items?” Ria replied.

“Hmm, did you have a rough day at training, nya? Why does that Bulgy Man always treat students like this?” Whitepaw said.

Ria wryly smiled.

“Okay, okay, Nya. then, how about the Three Flavors Fish dish and something that’s good for a young lady, nya? A potato broccoli with grains should be good. Is that okay, Student Ria?” Whitepaw said.

“That sounds good, Miss Whitepaw.”

“Nya,” Miss Whitepaw swiftly moved left and right, scooping and mixing sauces. She poured the prepared fish dish and paused for a moment before looking back at Ria. “No spring onion today, nya?”

Ria smiled and nodded.

“Okay,” Miss Whitepaw then sprinkled white sesame instead. She grabbed a side dish with broccoli and placed it on the big tray before sliding it out to Ria. Ria bowed and said, “Thank you, Miss Whitepaw.” Miss Whitepaw showed her paw with the spatula in front and said, “Good luck.”

Ria grabbed the food tray and looked back. The cafeteria had many tables filled with students and people from different backgrounds. There were also groups of hybrids, with bird wings, cat tails, and other unique features. Ria looked around a bit and noticed two ladies sitting at a long table, waving at her.

Ria nodded and then moved to their seat.

“Ria, here,” a lady with sea-colored bun hair and blue eyes patted the chair beside her. Another lady with long black hair and blue eyes smiled at Ria as she placed the food tray on the table. Ria slowly wade leg cross the long chair and sat there.

Looking at the two young ladies, who were equally beautiful and adorned in luxurious royal attire. “Hi Lady Velma, Lady Millard,” Ria greeted them.

“Hi,” they both answered.

“How have you been? I didn’t see you this morning. Is there something wrong?” Ria asked.

“I didn’t want to sweat in the morning, and I’m not a fan of Lord Ashliegh’s workout. If I followed his routine, I wouldn’t want to end up with bulky muscles like him. Plus, we have a class in the afternoon as well,” Black Millard explained.

Ria gave a wry smile and said, “Ah, I see.” Then she looked at Blue Velma and asked, “Also do you?”

“Hehe, I simply overslept,” Velma replied, crossing her spoon and fork. “And how about you? Is it as hard as usual?”

“Yes. Running and swinging as usual, but I’m already used to it. In just one step, I can touch male’s record time.” Ria said, while rotate her hand.

“Sounds like our Ria,” Lady Millard commented.

Lady Velma moved closer to Ria and hugged her arm. “Our Ria is the best, even though you come from the peasant group,” she said.

“Thank you, Lady Velma,” Ria smiled.

“Nah, I’ve told you many times. Just call me Velma. We’re close friends,” Velma said, her blue eyes sparkling.

Ria smiled and said, “Yes, Velma.”

“Hehe, I love it,” Velma smiled.

Clink! A new food tray placed on the opposite side of Ria’s seat. A lady with white hair, tan skin, and fierce golden eyes sat across from her.

The new lady greeted them, saying, “Velma, Millard, good afternoon.”

“Hi, Lady Carlyle,” Velma replied.

“Um, good luck to you, Lady Carlyle,” Millard added.

Lady Carlyle looked at Ria and said, “You Fast, Sun Feather.”

“Thank you for your compliment, Lady Carlyle, but I’m only fifth in the second group. I still have a long way to go to reach your level,” Ria humbly replied.

“Hmph, not even a single drop of sweat,” Carlyle said.

Ria simply smiled and slowly cut her fish, It little hard while the blue lady continued to hug her arm.

Carlyle observed Ria for a moment and then said, “Is it alright for you to eat here? I saw your prestigious teacher over in the corner—”

Clink! knife drop. Ria swiftly stood up.

“AwaAwawa.” Blue Velma Hand left off.

Ria turned to look around. In the far corner, there was a tiny tower of books. Ria’s eye have light reflection shone bright.

Ria Looking at her friends, “Um, this, eh, everyone, Sorry, I have... go.”

Blue Velma gnashed at Carlyle, as send girl message eyes. Why did you bring that person’s name out?

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

Carlyle paid no attention and started eating her food as if she knew this would happen.

Lady Millard smiled at Ria and nodded.

“Thank you. Next time, I’ll make it up to you all.” She grabbed her food tray and walked away from the group.

Velma reached her hand out, tears welling up in her eyes. No, mine Ria, but Ria had already moved far away. So Velma hugged her own chest. “Hmph! I don’t understand why she chose that commoner as her prestigious teacher. I know they are both from the peasant level, but my Ria comes from the richest family in the country. He’s just a mere librarian.”

Millard touched her own face and said, “That’s not fair to Sir Astra. He is a great civil servant and his work greatly benefits our country. Sir Astra has a great reputation in the government field and even has a good relationship with the Sun Feather Merchant Group. He has been a delegate for trade with the government many times.”

“Nah, why he just go do the government part? Why did he have to come to this royal school? He can’t cast any spells, and his fighting skills are terrible. He’s only good at arranging books,” Velma said.

Cling! Carlyle finished her dish and put down her spoon, saying, “I thought the same at first. Even when I saw him fight, it was all messy, like a man who had never touched a sword before. Surely not pretend. But he moves in a peculiar way, often taking the initiative like a child playing with friends.”

Millard’s eyes widened, and she covered her mouth with her hand, saying, “Ah, you’re talking about his interaction with children. That’s the sweetest part about him. He takes care of many children when their parents have to work, and his storytelling is really fun. I have to tell lord father to buy his new book.”

Velma glanced at Millard with half an eye and asked, “If you like him so much, why didn’t you choose him too?”

Millard smiled sweetly and replied, “I like his work, not his appearance. He’s a bit short and doesn’t meet my criteria. I would prefer Sir Ravie, tall, handsome, and smart. Once he receives the royal insignia, I’ll ask my father to arrange a marriage with him.”

Velma looked at her with half lid eyes.

Tud! Tud! Tud! Ria hurriedly walked to the corner of the cafeteria.

There, a young man with short deep blue hair, crystal blue eyes, and rectangular glasses that were currently glowing slightly. He was reading a book, with six others stacked beside him. On the table was a bowl of green soup that look terribly.

Cling! Ria placed her plate on the table and sat opposite him.

“Brother Rain! Why didn’t you call me when you were having lunch here?” Ria asked.

Slowly raising his head from his book to see who was calling him. “Eh, Ria?” He replied, his vision a little blurry. He took off his glasses to get a clearer view. “Ah, Ria.”

Without hesitation, Ria swiftly grabbed a spoonful of soup from Rain’s bowl and tasted it. It was already cold and only had a sweet flavor. “Ah, again, brother, pretend to eat healthy food, but this is purely dessert.”

Rain looked at her. “Ria, this is a school area. At least call me teacher.”

“T-t-teacher, no brother! Don’t change the topic.” Ria filled her spoon with her own dish, blew on it twice, and then pointed it at her brother. “Open your mouth.”

Rain taken aback. “Ria, please don’t do this. We’re not kids playing housewife. I can take care of myself.”

“No, I knew brother will not eat anything. Then look at a clock, then said Ah! It time, I have to go to work now, then left food away not eat anything.”

Rain looked at her, cool sweat bud on his for head, gulped, looked for clock nearby.

“See! brother, open, your, mouth.” She brought the spoon closer to Rain’s mouth. Bright mana gathered in Ria’s eyes.

A small tear fell from Rain’s eyes, then open his mouth.

Munch, Munch, Munch.

Ria smiled, “Good, good.” She scooped food, then slowly blew, then said with a soft voice. “Brother, if you had no time, or needed any help, just called me, okay? Our badge directly connected. Brother only had me as a lone student, not like other professors. They had a lot of hands to help.”

Rain nodded slowly as another spoonful came, Ria said. “Ahhh, open your mouth.”

Rain obedient eat it. Munch, Munch, Munch.

While munched, he reached a hand into his pocket. Place something in front of Ria. It is a candy sachet that attire with flower pattern. Gulped down the remaining food, and said, “Congratulate, Ria. for your breakthrough to level 6, now, you are at Saint level.”

Ria wasn’t really listening to what Rain was saying. She grabbed the sachet, admiring the lovely hand-sewn flowers. She looked at it without blinking, warmth filling her heart.

Rain extended his hand and gently rubbed her head. “Did you like it?”

Temperature rise on her head, her cheeks grew warm as she slowly nodded. “Ria likes it.” She said. Then, in a soft voice, as if she were whispering a wish “like, brother, more.”

“Hmm?” Rain tilted his head.

“AH, nothing!” then swiftly kept it in inner shirt.

“Are you not taste it, Ria?” Rain asked.

“No, I’ll keep it and eat it when I am alone.” Ria replied, looking away to hide her red face.

“Nah, you know, I miss the little Ria, a girl with ambition who had starry eyes when she looked at candy. The one who always said, ‘Brother, brother, give me one,’” Rain said, swaying his head slightly. He then took out another candy sachet, but this one had a plain brown design. “This time, this brother made it with special 5th month honey. It has a super aroma, caramel-like and sweet, just like swimming in a river of honey.” He put one into his mouth. “Ah, sweet!”

Ria’s body trembled as she stared at her brother. “Cheater brother, eating sweets again—”

Rain put one candy into her mouth.

Ria’s eyes widened as a rich sensation touched her taste buds, and she pictured a group of bees dancing and stirring a pot of candy. “Sweet, this is so good! It’s mellow and silky, melting smoothly on my tongue.” Ria’s hands moved left and right, as if describing her appreciation.

Rain rested his chin on his two hands and smiled at Ria, not uttering a word, just observing her reaction.

Finally, Ria noticed her brother was staring at her. Her face turned red, and one could almost see the smoke rising from her head. She quickly rotated her food dish with the paperwork in front of Rain. “B-brother, eat by yourself. I’ll do the work.”

Rain smiled and replied, “Thank you.”

“Ah, brother, your handwriting is so messy. Why is it always beautiful only in the first letter?” Ria secretly glanced at Rain eating. He was eating properly and smiling as he tasted the food. The corners of Ria’s mouth lifted slightly.

They continued eating and shared half of their food. Soon, they finished, Ria took the empty plates to the wash station before returning. She helped carry the books as they walked to the library. Along the way, many peasants and workers waved at them.

“What would we do today?” Ria asked.

“Not much, just teach you to write a spell, maybe level six Initial Sun that is comparable with you.” Rain said.

“Um, why brother can’t collect mana? if brother can do, brother will become a great sage, and wouldn’t be bullied like this.” Ria said.

Rain smiled then said, “You think too highly of me, Ria, just like everyone else does. Every life has its own purpose, and I love my work, helping people like this. Kids are also happy when they play at the library. Maybe we can turn it into a kindergarten instead.”

“Um,” Ria responded, then continued with a soft voice, “That, why, I, love...”

“Hmm?” Rain tilted his head.

“Ah, nothing! Just curious. If brother didn’t have this job or if brother had already completed your grand task, what would brother will do?” Ria asked.

“Um, let me think... Maybe I would open a small restaurant by the riverside,” Rain answered.

“That sounds good! Ria will help brother too. Ria is also good at cooking,” Ria offered.

“Haha, you’re welcome, my best chef assistant,” Rain chuckled.

“No, Ria will be the main chef, brother be the dessert chef. The main-dish zone forbidden from brother.”

“Why? I already have the Royal Award Dish Trophy!”

“That Trophy is form designing replacements meals in times of shortage. All dishes have no aesthetic at all.”

“Nah, it all wonderful dish.”

“Hmph! only blocky dish... by the way Have brother thing about a name?”

“Yeah, a royal fish king, is that good?”

“What is that, brother? Sound like filthy fish.”

“Haha, so what do you have in mind, Sister?”

“Um... I think, Blue Riverain.”

“Wow, that good. Welcome Lady Ria, master chef of Blue Riarain.”

“Ah! That embarrassing, I didn’t said that, change, change.”

“hahaha, I like it.”

“Brother!”

Throughout the way, the voices of the twos playfully teased with one another. Their radiant smiles resembled everlasting blossoms.
