Chapter 33 | Testament

Chapter 33 | Testament

“Why... why are all of you so cruel to me like this?” Rain said, his heart filled with pain.

Aria reached out and touched his shoulder, concerned in her voice. “What’s wrong? Are you okay?”

Rain remained motionless, not interacting with anyone, and murmured to himself, “What did I do wrong... when I missed, it shouldn’t have turned out like this... how many times have I left? Just a minute or two... no... only half.”

Ella questioned him angrily, “What happened, you filthy bastard? Are you chanting your curse again?” She hugged Aria, preparing to protect her.

Aria shook Rain’s body, but he remained lost in his delusion, not responding to her at all. She pushed harder, finally seeing his face, but what she saw made her shudder and broke her heart. His face was pale, devoid of blood, and his eyes lacked any sign of life. Aria gathered her mana, trying to keep him alive, and shouted, “Rain-”

Crack! Suddenly, his face darkened, his eyes turned white, and cracks began to appear on his face.

Bam! Rain’s body was flung far away,

Sloooosh! slid along the ground, leaving a long trail of mud.

Aria stood in a punched pose, one hand covering her sacred book, her breath unstable as if a dagger had been plunged into her lungs. “What are you doing?!” Aria exclaimed, confused about what had just happened. She had only instinctively attacked out.

Slowly, Rain stood up, his face returning to its lifeless state, and he looked at his hand, which held Aria’s sword. “She’s fast. I couldn’t get her book,” he said coldly.

Whoosh! The icy blade of the sword touching his neck.

“What are you doing, cursed child?!” Ella exclaimed, standing by his side, ready to sever Rain’s head. The sharpness of her sword caused blood to trickle from his neck.

Rain paid no attention to Ella’s presence and extended his bare hand at front, “Aria, please give me the book.” His neck being cut deeper.

Aria took a step back, still in shock, her mind racing with countless questions, but his white eyes lingered in her thoughts, leaving her speechless. She only tightened her grip on her book.

Rain noticed Aria’s reaction and a sad smile appeared on his face as he lowered his hand. “It’s okay, Aria... I will... do my best.”

Aria had a sinking feeling that she had lost something precious. “Rain—”

Rain forcefully moved forward, cutting himself deeper and causing blood to ooze out. Ella was shocked and instinctively tried to take her blade back to prevent Rain from cutting his own throat. But in that split second, Rain swiftly took advantage of the situation, leaning his body close to her, bent his elbow and knocking her hand away from the sword handle. He then skillfully turned and rotated his hand, stealing her sword. Ella saw it happen, but could not react in time.

She instinctively guarded herself, preparing for an impending attack. She gathered mana in her hand, her face covered in cold sweat... but no attack came.

Both swords were thrown out far away.

Grab! Grab! Caught by a Red Woman.

Aria and Ella bewildered in this, unsure of what Rain was doing. Even the red witch tilted her head slightly, confused. All eyes fixed on Rain at the same time. Why did he throw the weapons at her?

Rain looked at the red witch and exclaimed, “Faye, Ran! I will buy you some time!” Aria and Ella turned their heads towards Faye. Aria asked, “What are two of you plan—”

Faye wanted to respond, but she was also in the cloud of confusing, unsure of what was happening. However, what Rain said next filled her with dread.

“Go! Now! This land gets cursed. Eeon will begin his Grand Testament. Everyone in this town will be evaluated. At this rate, all holy orders will force to execute all life forms!” His eyes filled with determination. Tension gripped his fist.

Faye’s eyes widened, and the sound of her accessories softly chimed. Ta-thump, Ta-thump, Ta-thump, heartbeat louder and louder, not from her but the young man in front of her. It was a furious beat, the kind that belonged to someone fighting for their last breath. She slowly opened her mouth and said, “You... you’re not lying.”

Crackle! Swish! In the far church area, a beam of light shot up into the sky. Gray clouds swirled around it as numerous white boxes of light moved up and down randomly, slowly forming a circle.

“Please go, Faye,” Rain said.

Faye quickly gathered her senses and swiftly rotated her body. Her hair fluttered in the wind as one of her gems fell off and floated in the air. It was a beautiful round white gem, dimly emitting a soft white light. Since her both hands occupied carrying Aria and Ella’s swords, she used her teeth and fangs to bite the gem instead.

Crack! White particles enveloped her body as she continued to look at Rain. He spoke with a low voice, “At least you’re alive.” Faye wanted to respond, “You-” but before she could finish, her presence teleported and disappeared into thin air, leaving behind only lingering white mana.

Like a recurring nightmare, this scene repeated itself, as if the clock had returned to the same position, causing cause and effect to play out once again. But this time, all living beings, humans and animals alike, looked up at the same sky.

Whiz, Whiz, Waaaang! A box of light completely encircled the area. Multiple types of magic circles layered upon one another. The monotonous sound out filled the sky. “Testament... Accept, cause of risk, found the dark cultist element... Accept and Adapted location to curse field, Minimum Requirement... Evaluate complete, found three Saints on the field... Upgraded to Grand Testament, Risk level two, Remove all associated... Holy tower shine upon you.”

Waaaang! resonated through the air. The sky vibrated like a noise wave as the light shone brightly.

Everyone in town, even the little animals, dogs, cats and squirrels, slowly had mana hanging over their heads. Word by word, the text slowly appeared, first white, then turning red. Now, the word “Sinner” appeared for all to see. Only a few special individuals had normal white words with the number zero at the end.

On the Aria and Ella heads have the words “Saint of Holy Tower : 0”

Rain, on the other hand, had the words “No sin”, but he swiftly took out a necklace from his inner shirt and spun his follower emblem. It rotated and snapped back into place, changing the word on his head to “Saint Follower : 0”.

Ella looked at Rain in disbelief and asked, “Why do you have that? No, no, no! Why are you a Follower?” She reached out to grab his badge, but Rain swiftly dodged her hand and dashed farther back.

Rain was more shocked than Ella. His eyes widened and his mouth hung open. He looked at Ella as if he had seen a ghost and said, “Ella... Why are you still completely sane?”

“What! Why shouldn’t I be? Don’t avoid my question. Why are you one of us?” Ella took out her book, preparing to use it against Rain.

Rain stood up tall and stared at Ella as a beam of light from the sky cut between them. “You are the... second...” the light slowly faded away, leaving only gray clouds in the sky.

Ella stopped and looked at Rain, her hands trembling. She tried to reach for her sword, but it had already been stolen by the boy in front of her and taken away by the red witch. “How did you know—”

“Ella, help me! We still have a chance if we help each other. We have to. Don’t let Aria kill the innocent,” Rain said.

“No! I will kill you!” Ella exclaimed, but her hand continued to trembled.

“Do you still remember how to open the Codex?” Rain asked.

Ella hesitated for a moment. “What are you talking about?”

“I know you’re confused, but Aria can’t withstand it anymore,” Rain said.

Ella instinctively looked at Aria, unable to believe what she was seeing. The beautiful lady she love now looked like a puppet, with lifeless eyes and trembling hands that suddenly stopped and hung down.

“A-Aria what happened?” Ella said.

Rain threw something, and Ella instinctively grabbed it. It was a normal stone, but it decorated to look like a smiling human. It had yellow dots for eyes and a black line to imitate a wide smile. Ella moved her mouth a little and asked, “R-Rock?”

Aria slowly turned her head to look at the stone, but her eyes were still lifeless.

“See, pink eyes like you. We are positive, please help me. We can’t lose Aria.” Rain showed his pinky finger that was cut in half when he lived in prison.

Tud! Book Fell down, covered her mouth with two hands. “B-but b-but, they told that you are dead.” Ella looked at Rain’s follower badge. “That badge is mine... you are our... follower.” Ella said.

Rain nodded and said, “We girls help each other fight the bad, right?” Even though he had bruises on his face, a little corner of his mouth lifted up.

Ella widened her mouth, but quickly regained her senses and sat down with her knees, reached her hands on the book. A light shone on her hand and she said, “Rock Zero Three, I can open Codex, but I don’t remember much. They have removed all my memories. I can only manage get the major function. I don’t know if access as a Saint will be authorized to level two or not, but I will try my best. I will try to access bypass by Party Saint Code. It will take a lot of time.”

Rain nodded and said, “Ok, I will try my best too.” Rain got ready to fight, his face looking better and a little bit of color returning to his cheeks. His heart rate became stable.

Ella Exclaim, “May the light and hope stay with us!” and then looked back at the holy book. “Elmyra Rinaca Lestria, unit code X70153, Sky Piecer Unit. Requesting access to codex, line number 9371. Execute function 72 with Saint access permission.”

A monotonous sound announced, “Access granted,” and a golden panel rose up from the book. Ella’s eyes turned golden and her hair fluttered. Her fingers moved swiftly, continuously pressing on the panel. Many panels started to pop up one by one. Red vivid nosebleed slowly fell down.

Wind glide faster, color of town slowly dim into gray. Leaf and grass fly randomly in turbulence air. warm of the sun fade replaced by cold.

Aria finally moved, hand reaching for her sword. She hesitated for a moment, because no sword there. Then used her other hand to grab her Saint book.

Swoosh! Stone flew fast towards Aria’s arm.

Crack! She instinctively blocked a rock with her arm and then slowly continued to grab her book. However, Rain dashed quickly and knocked her hand away. He reached out other hand, wanting to grab the book. Aria was faster and punched Rain in the head, but he tilted his head to avoid the attack, only losing a small piece of hair. He leaned his body and grabbed Aria’s punched hand, Spun his body, back close to her, and then threw her over his head. Aria rotated her body to free it from Rain’s grip, and adjusted her body as she flew through the air. She landed with a little slide.

Aria slowly stood up, now in a battle stance, both hands lifted like a boxer. Suddenly, she disappeared. Rain raised his left hand to block his head.

Out of nowhere, Aria punched at that location.

Bam! Squish! Rain successfully blocked it but pushed farther back. Aria dashed forward to continued her attack, but when she got close, she disappeared again. Rain instinctively jumped up with a high knee. Out of thin air, Aria positioned herself parallel to the floor and performed a low-angle kick sweep. Rain successfully dodged it once again, but his eyes widened. Swiftly, he crossed his arms to block at the front. Aria used her arm as a turning point to rotate herself and struck another leg kick at Rain.

At the moment of the attack, Rain used his force to push and parry her kick. Aria swayed a little. Rain used her force to rotate his body in the air, finding a blind spot on Aria, and his hand reached to grab the book. But Aria swiftly bent her knee, pulling it close to her body. “Are you kidding me?” Rain exclaimed

Bash! delivering a fast kick that sent Rain flying once again. This time, Rain managed to block it in time and landed without much pain, only sustaining some bruising on his arms.

“Aria! Can you hear me? That is not you. Please come back. The system is controlling you, but you can fight back,” Rain shouted.

Aria slowly stood up, her hair messy with dirt and grass clinging to it, and looked at Rain with determined eyes.

“What is this?” Rave ran towards him with the word “Sinner” written in red on his head, followed by Twain and Throy, who also had the same word. Everyone looked at Rain, the Rockman, searching for words that could describe this situation.

“Rave, I have no time. The Holy has cursed us. Evacuate our family, leave town as far as possible, and don’t trust anyone or any animals, especially knights and people from the church,” Rain said in a serious tone.

Rave looked at Rain and surveyed the situation, then nodded. “Twain and Throy, go!” Rave commanded. Because they had endured the dark night together, a bond of trust had formed between them. Twain and Throy nodded, responding swiftly. Only the red thug and black rock remained.

“Are you not going?” Rain asked.

“Don’t trust people from the church, right? These two women look like the sky from a higher tower, opposite from us rats under the dusk of town shadow. You need more hand here.” He stood with his legs wide, ready to fight. “Plan, Rockman.”

Rain smiled. “It endures and withstands tasks. Leave the young lady in pink who is sitting alone on the floor. She’s with us, helping us find a way out of this doom. We’ll fight the blue lady, but you can’t attack her. Your karma will rise to the top. Let only me attack.”

Rave looked at Ella, confused by the color code Rain mentioned, but didn’t pay it much in mind. He focused on Aria and said, “Is she is your saint?”

“Yes, If I meet another saint, I would’ve been dead a long time ago. Her style is aerial type, so try your best to keep her on land and don’t let her get close to the water source area. If that happens, we’ll all definitely die.” Rain warned.

Black clouds gathered over their heads. Lightning ran through the clouds, followed by the sound of thunder. Roar! The wind blew fast, causing everyone’s hair to flutter along with it.

“Okay, I love it... this is one hell of a task,” Rave clenched his fists tightly, his eyebrows furrowing closer to his eyes.

Rumble! The sky cried.
