THERE IS NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.
It had been about four hours since I set out to find any intelligent beings out here. Apparently there weren’t a lot - none. The only living things I could see were your typical forest animals: bears, birds and rabbits.
Of course, there were slight variations in the animals here from what I remembered from my past life. The bears in this world had long silver claws, that somewhat resembled sharp daggers. The claws caused the wind to whistle every time they swung their bulky arms. Additionally, they had scarlet red eyes that seemed to stare deep into my very soul. Creepy overall.
The birds seemed to be pretty much the same, some chirping in delight, others looking for worms to be able to feed their young. Nothing special.
The rabbits here however were what surprised and intrigued me the most. The rabbits had horns! Unicorn Rabbits? I tried to get as close as I could to the rabbits without placing myself in danger to observe their horns. They looked pretty funny.
And on further inspection, using Appraisal, I found out that they were called [Single Horned Jackalopes]. Out of complete boredom, I studied them for a while and found out that they used those horns for attacking or defending themselves. Their hilarious appearance shouldn’t deceive anyone, as those tiny unicorn rabbits were a real threat to the existence of other species! I was frightened of them myself!
When they sensed danger, they coated their horn with what could have been Mana? Their horns would become blue and sometimes even purple, depending on how condensed the Mana was around their horn. Then they would leap off the ground with surprising strength from their small legs. The Jackalope would lastly plunge its horn into another creature's heart, presenting its dominance and win with a frightening style.
It wasn’t a pretty sight, seeing the horns embedded in another creature, but I admired their courage and strength. I certainly didn’t want to be on the opposite side of those horns. Luckily they couldn’t see me so I was safe...I hoped

Remembering the horned rabbits, I came back to the present. Feeling defeated, I descended to the ground to take a break.
The sun was directly on top of me. Its scorching rays hit me as if mocking me at my failed attempts to test out Possession.
An interesting point that took away my gloom for a second was that I had a shadow! I tilted myself towards it, and it moved. It wasn’t much, just a sphere. Nonetheless, it was still pretty cool how I was invisible yet had a shadow. I decided to activate Intangibility a few times, experimenting with my body, and I managed to notice that the sun would pass through me and my shadow would disappear. So not even light could pass through my [Intangibility] skill activation. Pretty cool. Did this potentially mean that I was invulnerable when it was active? If yes, then I had sufficient Mana then nothing could even scratch me, magic or physical attacks, in a fight. Woohoo! Probably not though…I didn’t know the effects that Mana had against me just yet.
Playing around with my newly discovered shadow and thinking of [Intangibility], I came to an epiphany. Why was I searching for intelligent life when I could possess any living being?
Why was I so dumb. I wasted four hours on nothing…
Well no matter, I should focus on the present. Now I just had to find a being lower-powered than that of myself. No idea how I would be able to do that though, did I have to fight it?… Eh whatever, let the system decide.
So, with newfound determination, I floated up into the air and took a survey of my surroundings. A number of candidates instantly perked my interest.
Could I possess trees? No, no I shouldn’t risk it. What if I was to be stuck as a tree… NO thank you.
My sight wandered around until I eventually picked out a being that I definitely wanted to possess. I cautiously floated toward it, not wanting to scare it away. The bird didn’t sense my presence, which I took as a good sign.
I brought up my status panel, the familiar green filling my view. Moving quickly, as to not let my chance slip, I activated the skill I thought was the most powerful in my arsenal…only time would tell though.
“Possession,” I thought at the crow which was pecking at its feathers.
It looked in my direction suddenly, tilting its head as its curious black eyes seemed to stare into my soul, just like the bear’s. What was up with these animals? So spooky…
[Soul Compatible]
[Possession in Progress]
It worked- Aaaaaa!.
“CAWWWW CAWWW” the crow screeched at me, flapping its wings in pain. I would have screamed as well. Alas, I had no mouth. So I could only endure the pain. However I soon began to tremble furiously at the pain we were both feeling, it being too much for my weak self to handle.
As to what was happening to me and most likely my newly made friend, the crow, could only be described as intense tugging at the center of our bodies. Extremely uncomfortable.
Just before the pain began, the system informed me that the soul was compatible. What did that mean? I could barely focus and keep my thoughts together, as everything slowly went to black. The last thing I saw was the crow and I getting closer and closer…
