“wroof”

That's the first sound I made as I opened my eyes. In the middle of a forest. I observe the surrounding, there's no sign of life except me. The trees beside me look strangely huge as if I am a tiny person.

Not that I am a person now

I sighed internally and turn my head to see the back of my body which covered in silver-ish grey fur. Looking very fluffy, soft and light as a cloud. I kind of have an idea of what I've become as I looked down and saw my tiny paw and the print I left on the ground when I lift it.

I am a wolf... pup?

That’s the conclusion I have for now. It doesn't seem like I was just born from a mother wolf. Didn’t God say I will be reincarnated? Instead, I looked like I suddenly appeared out of nowhere standing with my four legs in this unfamiliar world.

So I'm a wolf. Damn that God. Did he make a mistake again? Just how clumsy can he get.

“Oiii! God! Can you hear me!! Return me at once!” I shouted, hoping that he would hear me but I guess that's a waste of energy. I'm sure that once he stamped that paper. My life has been set up. He didn't just kill me. He also didn't grant the wish I requested?

I'm angry but moreover, I'm hella confused. Just what should I do with a body of this pup? I tried to move around but it was quite difficult to coordinates the movement of these legs. Well, I never walked on four before so don't blame me.

I swayed from left to right as I walked. My nose is sharp as expected of the animal sense. With no destination on the mind. I am tracing for other life existence. I did pick up a smell and so I followed it. A smell of human sweat. Should I just follow? Wouldn't it be dangerous if they are hostile toward me? I decided to sneak around the bush as I trace.

Walking is easier now. I have mastered this new body in no time. I can run, crawl, and jump too. It's weirdly light to be traveling with this fury body. I feel limitless if compared to my previous human body. I can tell I have a good sense of hearing since I picked up the sound of things that are far away from my sight. Then, I picked up a ‘human' voice.

“Mira! Don't go too far!” a shout from a middle-aged man sent alert to my nervous system. I quickly hid in the largest bush I see in sight and freeze. Making no movement while peeking through the leaves. This could be a death and alive moment for me. How does the human see wolf in this world? I don't have any clue. Since wolf is a wild animal and commonly feared in my previous world. I should stay low.

I can sense a little human walking toward my location. She smells sweet and her movement is quite clumsy. She made a lot of noise while walking, therefore, she couldn't have noticed me.

I should stay low and observe- Huh?

Take back my words. That girl actually staring at the bush I am hiding. Does she know? It couldn't be, right?

I gulped in anxiety, subconsciously letting my tongue out while started breathing heavily. Stop it, body! I couldn't control how this body reacts to the situation.

“Papa! There's something here!”

Oh shit! Should I run?

I should run but this body feels paralyzed. It is too nervous to run. Shouldn't I have the animal instinct and run for my life??

A short moment later, I feel the ground slightly vibrate as an adult human thumping his way here. My ears drooped and my tail tucked between my legs like a coward. Arrrgh is this the end?

The adult human smells sweaty. The smell I picked up before was his smell. I regretted my decision for following his trace. I should've been more careful. What if he is a hunter. I could be shot. But I didn't smell any gun powder like things. Did he not carry any weapon? I tried to peek through the leaves. Take a good look at the two human standing just two meters away from me.

The little girl seems to be around 6 years old. She has blonde hair and green eyes just like her father. He seems to be around 40s.

The father stood in front of the little girl as to protect her I guess. Carefully, he guided her to step backward by giving her a hand sign. His eyes glued to my location.

Good, go away, don't come closer

I thought they were retreating but it's not the case. Because the bush I'm hiding in suddenly split in two.

“Whaa!!” I was surprised. My animal instinct finally worked as I started to jump away. Run for my life. But then I was stopped mid-air.

What what what-what. What's going on??!!!

I swung my legs in confusion. I was stuck mid-air. Legs above the ground. I'm flying? No, I'm stuck!

I can feel something shrouding my body. It's both cold and warm. It's a very weird sensation as if I am in a hot sauna but also feel like I'm covered with the windy autumn breeze. It's not uncomfortable but it's not a good sensation either.

“A puppy!” The little girl shouted in excitement. I rolled my eyes to see what's going on behind me.

The adult is holding his right hand up, palm down while he looks like he's the one who stopped me mid-air.

M-Magic???

Thus I remembered what that God said to me. He did say that I will be reincarnated into ‘another' world. What I thought that time is just another parallel world which is the same earth but different world line. Never have I thought that it will be a world where Magic existed.

“P-Pardon my life sir! I mean no harm!” I quickly begged for life as I realize it's no use for struggling up here.

The father didn't react to my pleading. But the daughter reacted instead. “Papa, you are hurting him!” She stood in front of her father and raised both hands as if to stop what her father is doing. She spreads her hands left and right, making a line between me and the father.

The father glanced at me and sighed. He finally lowered his hand down and simultaneously dropping me to the ground. But I still can not move my body as he seems to be still controlling me.

“Can I have this pup, papa?” The little girl pleaded. The father looked unsure but then he sighed again after taking a long stare of me.

It seems like my appearance isn't something threatening to the human. They didn't seem to be afraid of me. Well, I am just a pup. What can I do else than a bite from this underdeveloped puppy jaw? I would've run if he didn't stop me anyway.

But, they do not seem to be hostile to me. Since the girl has asked to keep me. It's actually a piece of good news for me. There's no guarantee that I wouldn't encounter another human or predator in this forest if I wander around. Those I encounter next could be hostile. Following them is the best option that I could think of now since they looked quite friendly. The father released the magic that's binding me.

This is my chance!

I walked toward the father, carefully, as to not arise his alertness. I nudged his leg with my head and give him the best puppy eyes I could make. I hope I look cute. He stares at me indefinitely. Please please please.

“Please Papa please!” The daughter hugged the father as she pleads and also beaming with puppy eyes.

“I will be a good loyal pup sir” I pleaded as I continuously giving him puppy stare.

“Alright. We need a guard dog anyway.” The father agreed.

“Yaaaaayyyy!!” The little girl jumped in excitement. “Thank you, papa!” She crouched down and hold me up to her chest. She hugged me so tight that I'm gonna end up stop breathing.

“S-stop it. I c-cant breath” I complained. But the hug is tighter.

Am I gonna die like t-this

“Mira don't hug that tight. You are going to kill the pup” The father finally spoke.

Haahh I can finally breath

The girl loosened her death hug and apologized, “Ah- I'm sorry puppy” She then gently pat my head and scratch my chin.

What's this.. this feels so good... No, what am I doing? I should keep alert. Ahh but but...

The scratches gave me butterflies and it really really feel so good that I think of the girl. She must be an angel. I will follow her forever.

And that is how I'm adopted into the Wood family as a guard dog(?).
