Kanbe and Caroline had arrived to Crelens, the capital city of Elstivia, in the boat they had taken back in Argeares. But as soon as they came out of the boat, Caroline led Kanbe to a carriage pulled by two horses that had bulging muscles, as if they were the horse version of the bodybuilders, to carry both to the castle that was located in Crelens.
“So quick, can’t we even check the city? And with these muscled horses?” Kanbe asked, curious about being placed inside a carriage with such interesting beasts pulling it.
“First, the horses are from a species of monsters known as Might Horse. Level 40. They are peaceful, and easy to tame, but they can kick the head of any level 40 monster and crush it in one hit. But they are extremely proud, and only eat three things: Holy carrots, blessed grass, and meat. They won’t eat anything else, and if you offer any other food to them… Well, you might become the first hero who is a eunuch if you do such stupid thing. They have their stat spread being strength, vitality, and agility. Alongside that, they only have the bodybuilder skill tree, but have very specific skills. And second, the king can’t wait any longer.” Caroline explained carefully.
“Would they be harder than an archlich?” Kanbe asked, considering the situation.
“Not really. Might Horses are weaker in level, and they can’t handle flying enemies due to their lack of long range attacks. But if they can hit a physical strike, even an archlich would be done for.” Caroline replied, while the carriage carried them.
“Oh, I see. So, I guess we will see the castle.” Kanbe said, considering the situation.
“Oh, no. We’ll get teleported to the throne room once we reach the rendezvous point. There are many ambassadors of the dwarven country, Straka, and we are keeping quiet about summoning the hero and the assistant heroes. To avoid having groups that are against the hero after you or the assistant heroes.” Caroline said, before sighing, as the carriage kept moving quickly across the streets.
“Understood.” Kanbe replied, while he tried to not get dizzy due to the speed of the horses, as the carriage kept going. ‘I guess that there must be a lot of politics to take into account with something of this caliber, to ensure that everyone cooperates.’ Kanbe thought to himself.
For a few minutes, the travel was a bit awkward as Kanbe didn’t know what to talk about as he had been training or even if he should speak up first. But Kanbe realized that the horses were slowing down, and that a bright light covered the entirety of Kanbe, while Caroline simply could smile warmly at the hero.
“Good luck Kanbe. You shall need it with the king. But I can’t assist you with that, as the king has specifically banned me from assisting the hero.” Caroline said, with a warm smile on her face, as the hero was vanishing slowly.
The hero tried to speak some words of gratefulness to Caroline, but his voice didn’t come out, and he dissipated before long. He felt as if he was thrown into a river with a powerful current, and said current was guiding him somewhere, until he found himself in a room with white floor made of porcelain, eight pillars made of quartz standing proud across all the throne room, and massive walls made of opaque glass that showed the exterior of the castle, but it was clear that people couldn’t spy inside the room as the hero noticed the mana coming out from the walls.
In the midst of the room there was a throne made of a blue crystal and grey stone, in which there was someone sitting on it, as it was surrounded by soldiers wearing golden armors that covered all of their bodies. A tall man with long golden hair, brown eyes, several wrinkles in his visage, clearly robust in terms of musculature, a long golden beard, powerful mana coming out of his body, and a scar on his left eyelid. This man was dressed in silver armor with a red cape, as he had a golden crown with gemstones attached all around the crown on his head.
“I greet the king.” Kanbe said calmly, as he bowed in front of the man sitting on the throne.
“Hm. And what would have happened if I wasn’t the king?” The man sitting on the throne asked, with a gruff tone. ‘If he’s stupid, I am beheading him. If not, I am going to be surprised. That wench of Caroline thinks she can play with me, hah. She’ll be taught a proper lesson once I kill this impostor.’ The man thought to himself.
“Then, I would be beheaded for being a fool. But I would consider that someone exuding such mana to be honest enough to not be part of such trickery. I noticed during these days how the internal mana works. Individuals who are honest have their mana exuding all across the area, as they don’t hide anything. His majesty would be a case of that. Individuals who prefer to hide their best card, and are cunning per nature, tend to have a compressed mana. Misaki, from the Magic Corp, clearly seemed like one of those.” Kanbe replied calmly. ‘Luckily, I managed to improve in my mana sensing. I am sure that the king is aware of this. If so, I can use my training to my advantage. If not… Well, shit. If he wants to kill me, I am dead.’ Kanbe thought to himself, as he was panicking inside his head.
“Hm, the same answer as Isaac gave me when I met him. It seems like Caroline was right about your prowess and personality. I suppose that you are not here to trick me into believing a dark lord has arrived to this land. I am David, the first, Leonhard. King of Elstivia. Pleased to meet you, Kanbe Tokugawa.” David said while smiling at the hero. ‘The guy is smart, and seems honest. I suppose that the prophecy was correct this time. Nonetheless, we still have time to prepare the hero. I just need to prepare him as a weapon against the elders of the church of Zerax.’ David thought to himself.
“That said, if I am allowed to speak, there’s no need for a spy to stay this close to me. Her mana is most putrid nonetheless, and feels like the one of an archlich.” Kanbe said, as he pointed to the left, while the guards started looking amazed at the hero.
This made the king scowl, as he summoned a sword with a shining silver blade with runes engraved onto it and a guard made of gold and mythril, while the guards starting moving to surround the intruder in the room.
But that was a terrible idea, as a purple cube appeared besides Kanbe. This cube released a powerful sound that managed to knock out the guards, as Kanbe and the king covered their ears quickly enough to avoid being subjugated by the sound, while a distorted voice came out of the cube.
“Testing, testing! Agh, damnable hero. I made sure to cover the mana signal as much as possible with the limited time I had…” The person behind the cube said, clearly annoyed by Kanbe’s senses, with a distorted albeit slightly feminine voice.
“How dare you to intrude in this sacred castle!?” The king asked, with a roaring voice, while looking enraged at the purple cube.
“No need to get so worked up, his majesty. You need to look after your own health. Unless you want that fool of David junior to get the throne. I am here, mainly to check on the hero who defeated my archlich, as I am investigating. It’d be sad if my lich was defeated by someone without some sort of special capabilities. But never expected they’d be this good. Also, it’s not like you nor the other kings don’t do this sort of actions. So don’t fucking call me out on it when you are doing the same. That’s called hypocrisy.” The individual behind the cube said.
“Nonetheless, it’s intruding inside the palace of the king. And you knocked out all the guards. I guess we can consider you a follower of Namika.” David said with a scowl on his face.
“At least, I haven’t killed anyone. Unlike your older son, who killed an innocent mother and his own bastard cousin. Ahh, how stupid it gets with royalty. Ever so arrogant. I could have just increased the frequency and watch all the eardrums of the guards blow up. Would have killed them from the shock. But just knocked them out.” The individual behind the cube retorted, clearly annoyed by the words of the king.
“So, what do you want?” The king asked, with an enraged tone in his voice.
“Well, the same as you. A prosperous Elstivia. While the hero is around, the dark lord is nowhere to be seen. Don’t you find it strange, his majesty? I suppose the elders tricked their god with the prophecy. Isn’t that summa blasphemia? Either way, the pope got tricked and even Zerax was tricked by the elders. After all, delegating is part of what a god should be capable of doing. Otherwise, they’d have to micromanage everything. So, we share the same objective. How about we work together? Just put the hero, who has been used as part of the massive con made by the elders of the church of Zerax, in a comfy position and forget about the prophecy. As payment, I will undoubtedly kill all the elders and deliver your head.” The individual behind the cube replied calmly.
“Why should I believe an individual who doesn’t even show themselves? Even with the impudence you are showing!?” The king asked once more.
“Oh, well. You are right in that sense. But your plan would have doomed you. Seeing that you have enough foresight to consider not killing the hero, I want to prevent your fate. Soon, an individual superior to the dark lord and the hero will appear. Someone who terrifies the godslayers even to this day. I just desire to ensure that he doesn’t need to work himself to the bone because you left the throne to the incompetent fool that David the second is.” The individual behind the cube answered.
“Then why you want to kill me?” Kanbe asked calmly.
“Why do you think? That individual and you would end up being enemies. You lack knowledge of this world, and he doesn’t forgive anyone who attacks them. One bad guidance of the elders, and you would be buried in his backyard. And that would be a merciful end. So, why don’t you cooperate, hero? You can get an easy journey, and he will lead the world to eternal prosperity.” The individual behind the cube answered once more.
“Because that would be equal to ignoring the sort of individual I am. And there’s nothing as bad as ignoring what type of person you are. So if we must fight, then I shall fight earnestly.” Kanbe said with a determined tone.
“Hm. If the conditions were better, I wouldn’t be sure if you two would fight or be friends. Nonetheless, as I see it, you are going to drive yourself towards a path of suffering. But I will consider this negotiation as failed, as I expected from the start, and prepare for the eventuality. That said, his majesty, my offer still stands. So you could take it.” The individual behind the cube said.
“But I will not. Your words proved to me one thing. There may not be a dark lord, but there must be someone as bad or worse than the dark lord, so I will support the hero while try to guide him to a better path. But I promise one thing, I will find you and kill you for your impudence.” The king said with a stern voice.
“Haaah. Very well, you chose your death. Don’t cry to me when you die, you fool. I was kind enough to try to communicate to you two. But it seems like you two truly are meant to be annoyances. Since we are not allies, and you said that you will kill me, I might as well start preparing to bury you in my backyard. “ The individual behind the cube said, with an angry tone.
“Aren’t you afraid of committing regicide?” Kanbe asked, with a nervous tone, as he was sweating due to the threat the individual behind the cube had delivered.
“Where there is preparation, there can’t be fear. And why worry about the inevitability? After all, the best fighter is the one who controls the entire situation and doesn’t require raising their fists.” The individual behind the cube said, right before the cube disappeared in a purple flash.
Kanbe just took a deep breath, while the king looked clearly worried about what had happened, as he checked the entire area with his senses to detect any other cube. Unfortunately, there was no other cube to locate.
“No more cubes, I suppose they haven’t left any clue we can use.” Kanbe said, while he wiped off his sweat.
“No. They gave two clues. First clue: They don’t fear fighting Elstivia, henceforth they are from a powerful group. Second clue: They are from the Murim. The last phrases they said were phrases the murimists use as teachings for their students, so they must be trainers or trainees. Following the first clue, they must be a high-ranking trainer or someone with a high rank in one of the pavilions. But most prefer peace rather than fighting, so I have a rather small amount of suspects to check.” David said, with a frown on his face.
“I suppose it won’t be easy to deal with them, then.” Kanbe said, as he looked at the frowning king.
“No. The problem will be locating them. There’s a surprisingly small amount of data on any Mana Operator of this caliber in all the world. I suppose it’s their way to ensure that no one can catch them even if they do this sort of action. But that’s something I will deal with, I need your help for another thing.” David said, before taking a deep breath.
“What is it, his majesty?” Kanbe asked, with the most respectful tone he could use.
“I need you to assist with the investigation of the death of a citizen in Andving, the capital of the elven country. Usually, I would tell the elves to investigate this on their own, and to not bother us for this. But it seems like there’s a high probability that Moriarty did it.” David said, as he scratched his beard, with a concerned tone.
“Hm… Who is Moriarty?” Kanbe asked cautiously.
“He is known as the third-best assassin in the world, but the truth is that he’s the best assassin in the world. ‘Ice Blade’ Mina holds nothing to Moriarty. The issue is that Moriarty doesn’t do as many contracts as Mina does, and has very strange ways to contact each client. He even uses a recently anointed knight of Elstivia to deliver the messages. It’s hard to know how he’ll kill a target, but his known MO is using a sword or throwing daggers to strike when he’s impersonating someone else.” David replied calmly.
“And you are sending me to assist in an investigation of someone like Moriarty? Shouldn’t that be extremely dangerous?” Kanbe asked, with a concerned tone, as he pondered the situation. ‘I might truly die if I poke the nest without knowledge… But there must be a reason why the king is sending me. I don’t think he wants to get rid of me, he seems too honest for that.’ Kanbe thought to himself.
“Because he uses methods that those that come from Earth know of. I am sure you heard of godslayers. But what you didn’t know of them was this fact: They all were pulled in from Earth. The gods hosted a game in Earth, as a way to get new souls, what the people of your world call an MMORPG. I learned of that terrifying truth when I was a child. Turns out that due to their innovation, they progressed too fast in terms of technology and skill efficiency. And so, they became capable of hunting the gods that brought them in. Of course, the gods themselves were trying to use them as pawns… So it was natural that they turned on them. But turns out that upon death, the gods could grab their souls and reincarnate them. Instead of just individuals like you, Kanbe.” David replied, as he explained the terrible truth, with a worried look. ‘I don’t want this boy to die without knowing the godly sin. It would be a disservice to a good man who is honest.’ David thought to himself.
Kanbe paled when he realized what David had said, as the terrifying truth struck him, while the king nodded to himself. That meant that many people, instead of resting in the afterlife, had been used as pawns by the gods. Or at least, there had been an attempt on that but the godslayers just decided to be such an issue that made them unable to fully use them.
‘If the gods did so to get a massive amount of pawns… Why didn’t they put a sort of leash on them? Unless they wanted something from them… But what do we have, that they don’t have? It’s not technology, as it was their downfall, so… Wait, why it should be something they don’t have!? It could be something they have, but we can’t use on Earth!? They mined mana from Earth to improve the mana yield? But why? Wait… Mana renews itself, as I have noticed as I used mana, so if you bring more mana from outside and run the same system… More and more mana is produced, increasing the yield exponentially! If I am right, that means they wanted Earth’s unused mana to boost their mana production for some reason! But what reason?’ Kanbe thought to himself, as he tried to discern why the gods had used such a risky move, even with him.
“It seems this revelation has led you to deep thought. It’s normal. Not many can withstand that truth-” David said with a concerned look in his face, only to see Kanbe raising his hand in front of the king to stop him.
“There was any situation that caused the world to suffer a loss of growth? As in massive contamination? Before the godslayers and the other players came?” Kanbe asked carefully.
“Yes. Before the godslayers appeared, the ancient humans used fossil fuel on the daily instead of mana, as they revered mana itself. It led to a massive smog, and a big change in the ecosystem.” David replied, surprised by Kanbe’s actions.
“I see! Now all fits! Mana improves the growth of all beings. But also that means that the plants grow better than before, henceforth taking in the carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. This, in return, cleans the air. And I suppose the godslayers destroyed the ancients, and cleaned the world. Or maybe the cleaning part was left for the survivors of the catastrophic situation. In short, the godslayers were brought to destroy the harmful existence in this world and boost the mana yield. Then, after they did their job, the gods tried to put another function on the bored players… But they saw them as enemies for some reason, and the godslayers fully came to be. And that was what led to the shutdown of the fishing situation. I suppose they went back to safer practices once they had enough mana yield. But why bring them now? Or at any time? Unless the contract was binding, and they had to do it… Whether they liked it or not. But that’s too far for a speculation.” Kanbe said, at a quick speed, as his brain had some sort of inspiration.
“I-I see. I don’t understand that much, but I am glad you could find some explanation… Nonetheless, back to the task at hand: You will have to go with princess Saida, to find out what truly happened. Also, you must protect Saida. If she was harmed, a war between Rivialt and Elstivia would happen. There are rumors that the king can’t and won’t have more children, and that one of his children became a monstrous being that had to be exiled, as the king didn’t want to murder them. A child considered a cursed child, and one with the blood of the Black Flame Devil.” David said, as he tried to redirect the conversation to more fruitful endeavors.
“Understood. I don’t care much about rumors, I will see the truth sooner or later. But I will protect the princess.” Kanbe said with a determined tone.
“Then, once the guards wake up, you will be guided to a warship that will carry you to Andving. It’ll take a few weeks, but after all the attempts on your life… I think it’s a must. But before that, you could write up your theory over the godly sin, so our scholars can read it. It might be enlightening.” David said, before coughing, as he looked at Kanbe. ‘This boy is naive and dense, but he’s not stupid. He may be a blessing for all humans. Or our own godly sin. I haven’t told him about Takuto Tokugawa. I should have, but something tells me that once I tell him… Some secret could be uncovered, one that clearly the individual who spied on us doesn’t want to be uncovered.’ David thought to himself.
Kanbe simply nodded, as he got too focused on the idea of writing his theory, and looked around the area for some paper, ink, and a quill to write up his theory. After all, the hero had hopes for it to be remotely useful for the king and the world.

After the incident with the espionage of the king, Nigredo just pouted as she was in the dark room she had been with Yusu. It was her own safe room after all, a room only accessible from her own terminal of her Mana Operational Computer (the main cube of a massive legion of purple cubes made of mana crystals and metal).
“Agh! That king! He’s too stubborn! And he wants to kill me!? For doing the same as those shameless elves!? Then go WhiteWhale style, and murder all the elves by shooting at their kneecaps until their adventurers can’t go on adventures and their HP reaches zero! This son of a goblin horde is getting me mad! I wanna go full cat mode on him, and drop anything he has on a shelf onto his head! Waiiiiit… Since he’s going to die nonetheless, because the elders of the church of Zerax are planning on driving a pike into his heart sooner or later, why not… Nope. Don’t. If you fuck up Lord Evan’s reincarnation, it’ll be terrible. But then again… I can always just deliver enough data for them to not fuck up badly the possible candidates for Lord Evan’s bodies. Hopefully, they’ll be ethical… Who am I kidding? They’ll absolutely be worse than WhiteWhale. And WhiteWhale was enough savage to make Lord Evan look like a sane saint, enough savage to make the gods turn away in disgust whenever he went on a rampage.” Nigredo said, as she summoned a massive teddy bear that looked like a massive skeleton with golden armor and hugged it.
“Who did anger you so badly that you are remembering WhiteWhale? Probably it’s caused by some hypocrisy with the elves, which still amuses me a bit, but you should know to restraint yourself.” A calm and silky voice said from behind Nigredo.
Behind Nigredo, there was a man with white skin, red eyes, black rectangular glasses, shoulder-length red hair, who had a lean body but clearly looked as if the man had trained for at least twenty years. He was wearing a set of black priest robes that consisted of a black vestment with golden lines across the vestment that led to the area where the heart was, which had an emblem of a golden sword, and black shoes.
“Brother Rubedo! That king said he wants to kill me, for spying on him, while he allows the elves to do the same! That’s hypocrisy!” Nigredo exclaimed as she pouted.
“By definition.” Rubedo merely replied.
“Yeah! But he was supposed to be our ally! How can he try to assist the elves with Moriarty!? He was going to be ideal for our plan to capture Haseya!” Nigredo exclaimed, while hugging the skeleton plushie harder.
“I understand that. His utility might be running out, but we can still use him for a bit, right? We need a proper body for our lord, especially one with high level to prevent annoying situations. Of course, Namika could still outwit us and put him in another body. But we must do some quality assurance in the end, or be ready to assist until he recovers the power he may lose due to a low quality body.” Rubedo calmly said, as he patted the head of Nigredo.
“But if I see that the king will die soon… Can I finish him off?” Nigredo asked, as she pouted and hugged the plushie.
“No. In that case: Plan B will be allowing David junior to kill his father. That will make it easier for our plans, one way or another. And after all, better to let junior prove his incompetence by using Mina. It’d be mighty ironic for the king to die at the hands of the popular assassin, who took Lord Sumeragi’s arm due to her aiming at sir Legias. That way, Lord Evan would have a better reputation for killing an incompetent king and the killer of the previous king.” Rubedo replied while patting Nigredo’s head.
“Okay… But I want some payback! That king was so annoying!” Nigredo said, clearly angry.
“Oh, you’ll have it. As just and caring he is… He married the queen due to a political marriage. He has another family, hidden from the eyes of the queen, with bastard children and all. Before he dies, you can enact your revenge by murdering all of that family. After all, one of our functions is to do what the Von Aegilards can't and won't do whenever it's a must. Like killing innocents that could be a problem for the family. And if we have to use plan B, we might have to do so.” Rubedo said, before taking a deep breath.
“Understood! Oh, how much fun I will have! That said: They are not innocent, right? After all, that family must be a noble family.” Nigredo said, as she smiled at Rubedo.
“Sharp as always. I checked them out already. They deal in stimulants, an escort club, and slavery. Of course, there's something interesting there. The Archer Hero is there, following the orders of the queen of Elstivia. You can imagine what half of the orders are.” Rubedo said, with a worried face.
“Destroy the bastard children of the king, and get rid of the illegal slavers.” Nigredo said while smirking.
“Exactly. But there’s one more objective. The Wisdom Lord. Veto has moved, and there’s a Wisdom Lord. One which will be weaponized by the slavers if we don’t rescue him. So our duty will be to utterly destroy that accursed fate. But that’s proper for us, right? After all, our function is to protect the Von Aegilard family. Henceforth, we will be capturing the Wisdom Lord. And this time, all the Alchemical saga will be working towards that objective.” Rubedo said, as he still looked worried.
“Understood, boss. But I lack the knowledge of where we are going. That will be a problem.” Nigredo said, as she got serious, while Rubedo nodded.
“I have the location. We will drop Albedo to keep the protection of Lady Grandine, but we both are going.” Rubedo said with a serious face.
“Then I will get Albedo here, and we can use your teleport instead of mine! It’s better to have a tank than a support!” Nigredo said, excited to have all the group going together.
“Indeed. But that said, you are coming only to evacuate the Wisdom Lord and assist in terms of firepower. Further chaos is not advisable, and we can’t leave Lady Grandine unprotected. So you’ll be doing the evac duty, and then you’ll have to play it safe.” Rubedo said, as he glared at Nigredo.
“Okay, okay… I understand that need, but wouldn’t it better to get Albedo? He’s more suited for evac duty. While I am thankful for the chance to get back at the king, we should take into account the best way to do the job.” Nigredo said as she glared back at Nigredo.
“I know. But that would be too troubling for us right now. We can’t leave you to handle all the protection of Lady Grandine. It’s very low chance, but if she has to fight off anyone from the pavilions… You are not enough to ensure her absolute safety.” Rubedo said calmly.
“Okay, you are right. Let’s go then, to get the Wisdom Lord.” Nigredo said, as she stretched her body a bit, while Rubedo nodded.
Rubedo nodded and put his hand on top of Nigredo’s head, just before disappearing in a flash of light, to go towards the place where the Wisdom Lord was kept. It was a small hut, made of wood, with no windows, which had a square shape. Normally, this sort of hut wouldn’t be attacked by anyone who could destroy it, as it didn’t seem to hold any loot of use.
But another thing was what laid below it, a massive maze excavated like a mine turned into a prison of sorts for kidnapped children that would be auctioned off to rich (and corrupt) individuals who sought slaves that wouldn’t be freed.
Nigredo scanned the area with several purple cubes, as she ordered them to scan the area, and her face couldn’t hide her surprise.
“The maze… It has at least 300 children, and sixty guards. But that’s how possible? This close to the king? That’s impossible, especially if they have his bastard children, and you can’t convince me that this should be possible, Rubedo!” Nigredo said, her eyes widened while a bigger purple cube showed the results of the scan.
“You are right, it shouldn’t be possible. If there wasn’t officials of the church covering it up by using the accusation of Legias as a cursed child to indicate that these children are cursed too.” Rubedo said with a serious face.
“That’s it! Let’s rip their throats!” Nigredo exclaimed as she smiled widely.
“Agreed. Let’s get onto that. But focus on locating the Wisdom Lord. Before the church tries to buy him.” Rubedo said calmly.
As Rubedo spoke, he released a wave of mana which sent his clothes to his inventory and showed a black bodysuit with blue and red stripes going from where his heart was located to all the limbs of his body, while he unfolded his black wings that looked akin to a dove’s wings.
Nigredo smirked as she knew what sort of equipment that bodysuit was, and simply moved towards the door to kick it down.
But as soon as Nigredo was in front of the door, she quickly jumped back as an arrow was flying towards her forehead. Rubedo looked around, and didn’t see anyone, but knew that the shot was done from a short distance with the thick vegetation of the area.
“Nigredo, I suppose that the Archer Hero is using some sort of stealth skill. It’s not possible that someone has a shitty skill of autoaim even better than WhiteWhale. And that bastard had it good enough to aim elven kneecaps from outside a city. So he’s around and he’s jumping like a monkey.” Rubedo said, while looking around for any track of the hero, as he tensed up.
But while Rubedo was looking around, he noticed that the door was opening. Behind the door there was a man with a couple of curved horns, red skin, black eyes, short black hair, vigorous in terms of musculature, who was smirking at Rubedo. This man was wearing a pair of golden earrings, a black T-shirt, dark blue jeans, and a pair of black boots.

“What are you two trying to do? This place is private property! Hiro, you’ve got the girl, right!? I handle the red-haired fuck. He seems more of my line than yours, after all!” The man said, as he smirked at Rubedo.
“Understood. Nigredo, capture the Archer Hero. It’ll be easier for you with your Mana Operator skills.” Rubedo said with a serious gaze.
“I can handle both. It’d be bad if you lost.” Nigredo said, as she smirked at Rubedo.
“I will not lose. After all, Lady Grandine forbade me from losing. I’ll punch this bastard’s face so much, that we will be able to prepare some volcano parfait using his face as a bowl.” Rubedo said, as he bit his lower lip to hold in his anger, while glaring at the man.
The man smirked and charged at Rubedo, only to be countered by a single punch in the gut, while Nigredo used the purple cubes to scan the area in search of Hiro.
“Hoo man, you sure are more of my line than Hiro’s. That hit would be broken his stomach. But good for me. I can regenerate from this.” The man said, as he circulated mana while recoiling from the hit, as Rubedo simply waited for the man while his eyes were shining.
“What’s your name, level 10 fool? Is it truly Park? You have Regenerator and Survivalist Skill trees. Nasty combination for a frontliner. Seeing you lack magic affinities, I suppose you’ll either use your fists or a blunt weapon. After all, it’d be ironic to waste those muscles on a spear. That said, I am surprised you have both Regenerator and Survivalist Skill trees. Alongside an unusually high vitality. Zerax doesn’t hold back when it comes to blessing people.” Rubedo said as he stretched his arms. ‘It’s going to take a while. If it was just Regenerator, I could kill him in one shot. But something tells me those earrings have something to protect him. And his special skill, Damage Compacting, increases his defense depending on how much damage he takes on. I suppose the earrings are meant to save his life one time more after using the Survivalist passive, that way his Damage Compacting increases to the point where no one can pierce his defense without using soul damaging or defense piercing skills. It’ll take a while to pierce through it all, but I just have to pile all the damage on him without wasting the actives of the bodysuit, and then pile a bit more. Albedo is more suited for this sort of enemy, as bleeding works better for this sort of fighter… But Regenerator covers that weakness, so I suppose it’s gonna be a hard enemy for any of us that aren’t Prometheus.’ Rubedo thought as he looked at the status sheet of his opponent, as he had used Full Analysis on him.
“Indeed. I am not going to hide it. I want to measure up to the infamous Rubedo! The one and only! The one who destroyed my ancestors ages ago, only because a bitchy succubus didn’t want to come with us!” Park said, as he smirked, while Rubedo’s eyes widened.
“Your death won’t be a pretty one. You sealed that fate on your own.” Rubedo said, his eyes bloodshot, while he glared at Park.
“That’s what you think, Undefeatable. I will pierce that title with Damage Compacting!” Park said, as he charged at Rubedo, only to feel his left foot being crushed.
Rubedo had been quicker than him, and quickly had crushed the left foot with a normal stomp, as he was furious at Park. But this didn’t stop Park at all, who used his strength to punch Rubedo, and Rubedo simply blocked all of Park’s attacks with his hands.
“200 points in strength. How cute. I overpower all your stats, so it’ll be doable. That’s the last attack you’ll do.” Rubedo said, as his mana circulated towards his right fist, while releasing a flurry of strikes covered in mana.
As Rubedo’s mana entered inside Park’s body, it shocked Park’s nerves and the demon’s muscles tightened while his mind couldn’t produce any sort of thoughts. After sixty hits, Rubedo pushed Park away with a strong palm strike delivered to the pit of the stomach.
“Stunning Strike plus Fist Barrage. The combo skill known as Eternal Stun. That’s it, Park. You will be stunned for half an hour. Now, you are just a punching bag. It’ll take a while, due to Regenerator’s passives and Damage Compacting, but I will peel away your safeguarding abilities. Both the Survivalist passive, and the earrings. It’d be easier to have Prometheus punching the life out of you, but your insolence deserves some punishment.” Rubedo said, as he concentrated his mana on his right leg, and delivered a kick to the chin with the mana infused leg.
Park was unable to even speak, due to the impact of the stun which worsened after the kick to the chin he took, but Rubedo concentrated his mana once more and delivered a powerful Axe Kick to bury Park’s face to the ground.
That alone was enough to bottom out the HP of Park, but recovered due to Survivalist’s Last Stand to an optimal state. As Park got up, he saw a barrage of spears made of holy light, which came out of Rubedo’s body, piercing his body mercilessly, which lowered his HP to 0 once more.
But as Park was about to die, the earrings started shining and restored Park’s body to its optimal state once more before breaking.
“A one use revival item. Those tend to be extremely rare, and usually crafted by expert blacksmiths who have a good knowledge of enchanting. As I had expected. But luckily, I fought you while you were a level 10. Had you been a level 60, it would have taken a long time and effort to kill you.” Rubedo said, amused by how a low level individual had such a wonderful item.
“Heh. But that also means I got rid of your stun, and I maxed out my Damage Compacting passive! So, no more damage coming to me!” Park said, as he got up to punch Rubedo, while Rubedo simply used his wings to fly away.
“Ah, no. It’s going to keep coming. Only that this time, it’ll be lethal and one attack alone. Active: Moon’s Might. Active: Solar Power. Active Combo Skill: Eclipsing Might!” Rubedo said while landing 30 meters away from Park, while his bodysuit shone brightly in a dark red color as the stripes on the bodysuit absorbed mana of the area.
Park knew that the next attack would be the last for Rubedo, but trusted in his Damage Compacting. After all, he had taken damage equal to two times his entire Health Pool. This meant that his base defense right now was equal to 2 times his HP, and piercing through that wouldn’t be easy at all, so it was safe to assume that he could take any attack delivered by Rubedo.
But he was wrong, as Rubedo jumped towards Park while all the mana absorbed by the bodysuit concentrated in his right fist. Having used Exorcism Fist, Tiger Pounce, and Empowered Fist… Rubedo had enough damage to pierce through Damage Compacting, and send Park to the afterlife in one attack, as he punched Park and suddenly Park’s upper half was gone alongside the door of the hut and half of the entire hut.
“Ah. I thought that Damage Compacting would block most of it. My apologies, Nigredo! I think I killed the bastard children too, without wanting! I used that combo skill, as I got angry with that fool, thinking that Damage Compacting would block the impact. So yeah, they seem to be dead.” Rubedo said, as he scratched his neck. ‘Huh. I thought it would tank it better. The ratio was never specified in the skill description. Or is it that his vitality was low after the second revival? Eh, if so, shame on him.’ Rubedo thought to himself.
“Aw, shit! And the Archer Hero ran away after I made a new set of holes for him! Couldn’t you have avoided aiming Single Truth: Punch somewhere else!?” Nigredo exclaimed, as she huffed, sweating a bit.
“I couldn’t. Special skill holder. And had more defense than a tank in the godslayer era because I had to pile on the damage.” Rubedo said while going to pat Nigredo.
“Crap. Okay, doesn’t matter. Check the area, get the Wisdom Lord and the kids, while we do a five point scan. But keeping him with us is a bad idea, and I don’t think that Moriarty will happily help us right now. Especially after Albedo killed one of his boys, because he was using children as meat packs for smuggling. You know that for being a Frost Monarch, he has no chill when kids are involved.” Nigredo said, as she massaged her forehead.
“Yeah, having someone who is watched by Veto is asking for incidents to happen. But we can’t send him to the Mcgyvins. They might use one of their shotguns on him to try out how the Wisdom Lord skills work. And sending him to Thundy is going to be equal to asking the messenger to die, as she’ll take it as us trying to play cupid. Few allies to use, and fewer decent options that aren’t keeping the ticking bomb with ourselves.” Rubedo said while going inside the wrecked hut.
“We can use Isaac. He’s out the Magic Corp now. Well, halfsies on that one. He can cooperate with them, but the japanese faction expelled him. We can send the Wisdom Lord to him, have that elf keep him for us until Lord Evan is back.” Nigredo said, thinking hard about how to properly deal with the Wisdom Lord.
“Alas, there’s no need for such plans.” A young voice said, from the hut, while Rubedo was pushed away by a gust of wind.
Rubedo looked worried at the source of the gust of wind, as if his instincts were telling him to attack now that he had a chance, but decided to just remain vigilant. Letting his instincts guide him was allowing the programming of the main subconscious mind made by his lord take over, and react without caring about the plan and only for his own survival.
In the wrecked hut, there was a young boy, wearing an orange dress that barely covered up to his thighs and a pair of black flats, with short blue hair, golden eyes, snow-white skin, and androgynous physique.
Nigredo quickly got serious, as she sensed the boy’s mana as if it was an ocean in front of her. A tranquil, but also unforgiving, ocean that threatened with drowning anyone who was a problem.
“I suppose we found the Wisdom Lord, brother. But he’s a menace already. Shouldn’t we… You know?” Nigredo said, as her ears perked up, while her fur was standing still.
“For now, who knows if that would be a correct move. Let’s try to talk with him.” Rubedo said calmly.
“I am not going to consider going with you, to meet and here I quote Veto’s words ‘A mommy-like succubus’.” The young boy said calmly.
Rubedo just frowned, and clenched his fists, while Nigredo started laughing wildly, as the young boy just stood there as he was terrified of Rubedo.
“Hoo boy. Veto is the sassy kind of god! Oh, I am already liking the boy! Let’s carry him to Lady Grandine, just to spite that nerd of a god!” Nigredo said, trying to contain her laughter, before starting to laugh once more.
“One more word, Nigredo, and you shall learn what tranquility is. Only for an extended period of time. You know that tranquility can end you, right?” Rubedo said while glaring at Nigredo.
“Oh, come on. He looks cute, and certainly Lord Sumeragi could see how much Lady Grandine has grown if the boy learns the sass of Lord Evan!” Nigredo said, while smirking, as Rubedo simply groaned.
“Okay, that’s it. If Veto wants us to back off, that he comes here. I still have mana to spare, and I can still make sure he experiences tranquility… For an indefinite amount of time.” Rubedo said, while walking towards the boy, as he cracked his fists.
As the boy was getting ready to start running, Nigredo grabbed him and hugged him. She hissed at Rubedo, but then got the boy inside one of the purple cubes, and sat down on top of the purple cube.
“Got him. The boy may be sassy, but he’s naive. Of course, it’s a WIP at best. But better than what you were planning to do. You know, breaking his legs wouldn’t help at all. At most, you’d have some sort of agent of Veto coming after you.” Nigredo said as she smirked at Rubedo.
“At least, I would have the satisfaction of teaching a rude god about insulting Lady Grandine. That said… Better we do all the evac.” Rubedo said, before taking a deep breath.
“Good thinking, brother! And don’t worry, I am sure the sassy child and Lord Sumeragi will be besties in due time! And he thinks I am protecting him from you, even when following the orders of capturing him, so Veto will reconsider the idea. Also, if he’s so wise… He’ll have to admit that we are his best option. Unless he expects Azmosdei or any godslayer to do his job. If so, he’s too naive.” Nigredo said while she made the cube float around.
“Or he’s just playing with us, to make us do more work and give someone enough time to catch us. Like the Archer Hero.” Rubedo said, as he went to locate the children.
“Eh, I doubt that. Not after how much sass I threw at her. I think it's a her. Imagine being a dark elf, and being a fan of a tomboyish elf. How scandalous! That said, I will keep an eye on the boy. So good luck with what you have to do!” Nigredo said, while smirking, as Rubedo went to seek the children.
After half an hour, Rubedo got around 1000 children and 200 adults out of the remains of the underground complex. It was a staggering amount for both Sunken Guardians, it was enough to prepare a massive orphanage outside of the church influence, and the Sunken Guardians had a wonderful idea. One which would help, unwittingly, their lord sooner or later but that’s a story for another time and place.
