Chapter 14: Doryubori

After a few hours of walking, Saida had arrived at the castle in Andving. It would usually take far less time, but being a princess meant having to deal with a lot of journalists whenever she wanted to walk outside, but that wasn't important at all for her.

Eleven solid, square towers had been built on various tactical spots for an ideal defense and were connected by high, solid walls made of dark green stone which made it harder to locate due to the staggering amount of trees around the area. Grand windows were scattered here and there across the walls in an asymmetric pattern, along with same-sized holes for archers and artillery.

A huge gate with heavy metal doors, a regular bridge and strong defenses guarded the entrance to the castle. There wasn't a moat in front of the castle, but there was no need for it, as the trees around the area hid several Treants.

Treants themselves were tree-like monsters that could just survive by draining nutrients from the ground and a bit of sunlight, but that didn't mean they ate any living being that dared to go near them. It was more nutritious for them, and the first elven king made a contract with them to have them be guards that could eat and keep all the intruders had. That included the corpses, a thing the first king didn't think through, and it made the castle forest a lot more terrifying for everyone.

Many raiders in the past had tried to sneak inside the castle, using the forest as a cover, only to find the monsters living there and being found out far sooner than they would have been if they attacked the front gate.

As Saida walked towards the huge gate, Malaskador appeared beside her with his typical smile on his face as he protected Salsa's ears.

Before the guards could stop Saida and Malaskador, a powerful sound like syntonizing a radio came out of Malaskador’s throat that knocked out all the guards.

“Princess. Glad to see you. Nonetheless, I am hurt by your actions. Going with that Tokugawa boy, trying to catch my good friend Moriarty… I know all of it. Is it because I forgot what you wanted on your fifth birthday? You know how dangerous a Tokugawa is.” Malaskador said while smirking at Saida.

“Malaskador. Dad got my boyfriend killed by using Moriarty. So you know I will go after him.” Saida coldly said, while walking towards the inside of the castle.

“Oh, what a shame. You should have picked a better guy. Or just asked Katas to get better suitors. Unluckily, I won't go inside that castle. Katas hates my guts, due to being a pal to your grandfather, and to be fair: I hate him. If you put us together in a room, only one would walk outside alive.” Malaskador said with his natural smile.

“Must you always smile?” Saida said while frowning.

“Absolutely. You aren't fully dressed without one! And it keeps the people trying to guess what you are thinking about. Evan is too honest for this, but everyone fears his smile. Because it's a coin toss. He could be happy or he could want to kill you.” Malaskador said while looking at Saida.

“Talking about him. Is he back? One of his retainers was at the heroes house.” Saida said while glaring at Malaskador.

“Ah, no. Not sure about it. Could be. The fella hates being seen without all the prep work done. It's his way to keep control. Or maybe it's just your uncle or your aunts wanting to deal with them before they get attacked. A Von Aegilard must always be proactive, and resolute.” Malaskador said while shrugging.

“I see. Not even a devil won't know if he's back until he desires to be seen. I would expect him to be around after what Legias did. He killed Mom, and he deserves everything that happened to him. I would love to end him myself.” Saida said with a frown on her face.

“I always said that it couldn't have been him. Killing Legadonia like that is doable. But I think it's an inside job. Katas had something to do with it, for sure. But yeah, all the proof we have points at Legias. Weird, isn't it? Why get assassins when he could get as close as he wanted? Something doesn't add up, dear. He has no motive to do so! Your father, on the other hand, had more than a few due to her being a primal elf. The scandal if he was known to be a son-in-law of Evan. Many of his enemies would get godslayers that hate Evan, which aren't few, to kill him.” Malaskador said while keeping his smile.

“Maybe he did it due to being a cursed one. All cursed ones get easy power-ups, and that gets to their brain and become murderous bastards!” Saida said while looking clearly angry.

“If that was so, Sumeragi would kill him instead of helping him. I am just trying to help you, dear. And you are lucky I am here. I got something for you.” Malaskador said as a letter appeared in his right hand.

“What's that? Some sort of disgusting invitation letter?” Saida asked.

“Oh, no. It's a letter that was about to be disposed. Between Katas and Moriarty. I know I am shooting my own foot with this, but I cannot stop myself. Messing with Katas is quite a nice thing, and I would love to help you dear.” Malaskador said while giving the letter to Saida.

“So I wouldn't have found anything unless I had searched the entire castle. From who you got it?” Saida said with a serious look, as she looked at the letter.

“From a maid. Katas is always so sloppy with this. Only gets young maids to deal with them, and all of them are part-time maids. Easy to hide in the ledgers, I suppose, but well… You can always just be a charming boy and convince the lady to give it up.” Malaskador said with his smile on his face.

“You are the worst. Either way, thanks.” Saida said as she turned to leave the area.

“Hm. You had it easy to come. But I don't think leaving will be easy, so good luck.” Malaskador said, before disappearing.

As Malaskador disappeared, Saida noticed several elves wearing armor surrounding her. She was so focused on Malaskador that she didn't notice the entire situation, so she quickly paced the letter within her inventory and raised her hands.

‘It's better to not get fuzzy right now. Just keep the letter in the inventory, and give a false one fitting of Malaskador's playing. Malaskador is playing with us all, he wants to drive a wedge between me and Dad. To absolutely split the elven king from the Von Aegilards. But why?’ Saida thought to herself.

As a couple of guards grabbed her hands, she was carried to the inside of the castle. It was the best move for Saida, as fighting would get the monsters in the vicinity involved, and she wasn't sure she could deal with them all.

***

Far from the castle, in the streets of the elven capital, Kanbe was looking around and trying to learn where the Doryoh clan had their bases by asking several guards. That was one hour after trying to find where Moriarty was located, by asking where the anointed knight James was to the guard, only to get many guards saying that they didn’t know where he went to rest.

‘If I find the Doryoh clan, I am sure I can locate Moriarty through them. Just need to ask for some reinforcements from the guard once a mess happens. Hopefully, they’ll be soon… Agh, Rei was right. I am a jackass. This terrible idea couldn’t go worse…’ Kanbe thought to himself while walking across the streets.

As Kanbe walked across the streets, he heard a massive explosion. An entire tree had exploded in an unnatural manner, as if someone had placed a bomb within the entire tree, and many people were hurt due to it. Children, women, elderly… It didn’t matter, it was an indiscriminate attack and the only thing that Kanbe could make out of the screams was a name… Jack-O-Bomba.

‘Who is that Jack-O-Bomba!? And why did they blow an entire building!? Damn it, I need to help the people!’ Kanbe thought to himself as he ran towards the sources of screams, as he found several individuals who required healing due to broken glass shards or twisted ankles.

As he helped the people, he found numerous women wearing armors made of mythril. The armors themselves were painted pink with red stripes, but Kanbe could notice the insane amount of enchantments placed within the armors themselves, and had an emblem of a black deer, with red antlers that connected with all the stripes, on the stomach area.

But unnoticed by Kanbe, Malaskador appeared right behind him. The devil was considering whether to kill Kanbe right away, or confirm things before striking, while the armored girls were busy with the rescue of everyone.

That said, before Malaskador could choose, Leshelle arrived to the scene. The barbarian ran across the area, trying to help while doing his hardest to locate someone in particular, until he found a pile of ashes right in the middle of the area where the tree was located.

“Hm. Okay, I can test that out with Leshelle there…” Malaskador said, which did scare Kanbe, as he aimed at Leshelle with his left hand.

But as Malaskador was going to attack Leshelle, Kanbe used Holy Light to blind Malaskador. This made the devil hiss, and move away from Kanbe, while the hero looked scared of Malaskador.

“Who are you!? Are you Jack-O-Bomba!? If so, why have you attacked that building!?” Kanbe asked, while preparing to fight as best as he could, while Malaskador raised an eyebrow.

“Ah, no. Little Jackie never had the style I do. But don’t worry, you have my undivided attention right now. And my undivided wrath too. My eyes are scorching hot due to your damnable flash. It doesn’t take out HP, but might as well leave someone blind the day you amp up that light.” Malaskador said as he shot a greenish dark blast of energy towards Kanbe, which did electrocute and damage the hero badly, while he smiled with his usual smile.

The attack was too fast for the hero, and he was down on the ground in a fetal position after being struck by Malaskador’s attack. The devil walked towards the hero, and then kicked him in the gut, with an angry expression on his face.

“Ah, yes. I forgot to check his level. Or his stats. An Occult Blast might have been too much. But using any sort of projectile would have too. Ah, Tokugawas. Too dumb to know when to back off, too brave to jump in messes they shouldn’t get involved in. You know, I do enjoy this. But it’d be too easy to just murder you right now. If I am to get back at that Tokugawa samurai, I need you alive.” Malaskador said, as he didn’t spot his usual smile, but just an angry face.

While Malaskador was going to grab Kanbe, several arrows from a few women with the same armor as the ones assisting people went towards the devil’s chest. This made the radio devil use a high frequency to make them vibrate and miss the target, while looking annoyed.

“Oh, now Themeria chooses to attack me. You were a ranker party, not a godslayer one. From where you got the confidence to attack a godslayer. Is it because I am in your territory? Jackie blew it up because you have distasteful swinger parties, and the angel that used Leshelle. You should know better than having people doing that sort of distasteful thing. I am here for my own business with the Tokugawas. You know, after seeing Saida being captured in the castle by the guards.” Malaskador said, while returning to his usual smile, as he looked around to see where the leader of the group was located.

As Malaskador was seeking the leader, a pink-haired female with pale skin, golden eyes, a scar on her forehead, and pink nails rushed at Malaskador. The female was wielding a longsword with a pink guard, which had an amethyst in the middle, cedar wood for the handle with red leather on top, and a golden pommel while she wore one of the Themerian armors.

“Ah, yes. That should explain it all. Seramine! Just as expected, you are going to be a little darling for the samurai. And still angry at me for what I did to your little party. I had my fun with tentacles due to your insolence.” Malaskador said with a wide grin on his face.

As Seramine charged at Malaskador, a portal appeared just below Seramine’s feet and several tentacles bound Seramine’s body while disarming her. Kanbe saw it all happen, and looked amazed at the capacity that the individual that attacked him had.

“You bastard! You escaped from our trap to kill you! Tak won’t forgive you for all of your misdeeds!” Seramine exclaimed while glaring at Malaskador.

“Hm. Maybe. But it’s not up to him in the part of judging me. No one can judge me, unluckily, henceforth I am just accountable by my own might. Like all godslayers. And anyone who dares to go against it is my enemy. But thanks for this forgettable experience!” Malaskador said as the tentacles bound Seramine’s mouth.

As the tentacles made sure to keep Seramine tied up, they started slamming her against the ground and the other Themerian girls that tried to free her. Kanbe tried to get up and help her, but Leshelle charged at Malaskador full in Rage Mode as his eyes were bloodshot.

“You bastard! Die!” Leshelle exclaimed as he used his axe to attack Malaskador, only to be pulled away from him by another tentacle that came from another portal placed a few meters away from Malaskador.

“Unluckily for you, I am too strong for mere heroes to defeat me head-on. This is why I told Moriarty that we should have made sure all the heroes were summoned in our presence. We need to crush them thoroughly first, to make them understand the pecking order. We, the godslayers, are overlords in this world. Like the highest rank archangels or the highest rank devils, we are the overlords of this world. Not a silly king with a crown and a Stigmata. We just don’t abuse our powers unlike the kings, and we follow a deal we made with the gods to avoid that the three realms are chaos.” Malaskador said, while ordering the tentacle to smash Leshelle on the ground before it disappeared.

Leshelle took the hit, but quickly got up, and charged at Malaskador before being shot with an Occult Blast which sent him to the ground again. And the cycle repeated tens of times, with different spells coming from Malaskador, while the others saw the heroes being defeated by the devilish godslayer.

“So you all, remember this clearly. Heroes won’t save you from a godslayer. A godslayer’s word is supreme. But above a godslayer’s word, there are the words of the Four Heavenly. If Wukong, Darya, Evan, or Elizabeth… Even though the last one is insane, so you can ignore her… Tell you that Moriarty is to not be blamed for someone’s death… You do that. You don’t blame a knife for stabbing a boy, so don’t blame the guy for getting paid for killing, while you accept killers like Mina or Katas as heroes. In fact, you should blame those two more than anyone else. Mina killed a Von Aegilard, after all, and Evan’s wrath is to be feared. And Katas ordered Legadonia’s death. As the tale of the Von Aegilard must be told in fear, and paid in blood of those who harm the family, the repercussions of the foolish actions taken by those two will hurt you all.” Malaskador said, only getting interrupted from time to time by Leshelle managing to get close to the devil, as he kept his smile.

Kanbe managed to regain consciousness, mainly due to Leshelle dropping a potion while on the ground and its contents spilled towards the hero, and crawled towards Seramine’s sword. He had one idea in his mind right now, and it was to stab the evildoer that was attacking without any care, and he made sure to control his mana while getting closer to the devil.

Kanbe wasn’t aware of it, but he was using one of the godslayer’s basics right at that moment. A technique that can’t be categorized as a skill, an ability all godslayers learned as they learned to manipulate mana with an open mind, known as Mana Camouflage. The ability to manipulate the user’s mana flow and camouflage it with the mana of the atmosphere, which was something godslayers did to avoid wasting time fighting inept enemies and not waste energy with enemies that wouldn’t give anything of worth in their eyes.

As the hero got close to Malaskador, who didn’t sense Kanbe as he was enjoying too much the barbarian’s silly attempts of attacking him, he did a quick stab with Seramine’s sword in the devil’s left side with all of his focus, which led to a Heavenly Defiant attack. It did pierce through Malaskador’s attire, and even damaged the devil, while Leshelle managed to land a hit on Malaskador only to see the attack being unable to cut the attire.

“Ah… Just like him. You have a talent for wielding mana. Sneaky bastard. Using Mana Camouflage while I didn’t use Mana Sense as I considered that no one would try to be that cheeky. Hm… I can’t kill you two. Otherwise, I’d have to act as a true overlord of the mortal realm. So, I’ll be taking my leave here. The retransmission is over, fellas, but do remember my words. You can’t kill me. And I don’t want to kill you. So, just close Moriarty’s case as a divine death and go home. So goodbye, ladies, and gents!” Malaskador said, before teleporting away as he turned himself into a radiofrequency.

As Malaskador left, Kanbe fell to his knees while Seramine was freed. All the Themerian rankers went to help both, while also healing Leshelle, and took them away from the area while assisting the people involved in this fight.

***

Malaskador appeared back in the hideout where Jackie was resting up, after going to deal with the angel that got Leshelle involved, while clutching his left side as it was bleeding profusely.

‘I can’t believe it! A ranker blade going through my defenses! And an under-leveled hero doing so! This is unbelievable! I can’t comprehend how he did it! Agh, I need to catch Azmosdei! I need to heal up! That attack was so unnatural! But it can’t be! There’s no one who can use Heavenly Defiant attacks so happily, and even then it would only take out one grade difference between Unique Tier 3 equipment and ranker equipment!’ Malaskador thought to himself, as he limped towards the couch, while Azmosdei was sitting on the couch.

“Oh, goodie. You got stabbed. Who was it? Takuto Tokugawa? You almost expired then. Don’t worry, I am here. I can heal up with a few potions and Diagnosis.” Azmosdei said, as he grabbed a bandage from his inventory, and used mana on his eyes to see the status of the devil.

Malaskador simply fell to the ground, while Azmosdei bandaged the wound and then used a potion with a crimson color stored in a vial. The potion was a regen potion, a potion that forced the body to regenerate quicker while eating away the stamina of the user, and it was quite painful to use. Due to the regeneration process, the individual suffered intense pain as skin, flesh, and blood were replenished.

Malaskador wasn’t an exception to that rule, but Azmosdei was faster and used a ray of bright green mana to poison Malaskador’s body with anesthetic poison mana to nullify Malaskador’s sense of pain.

“Kanbe Tokugawa. He can use Heavenly Defiant attacks and Mana Camouflage. One of the godslayers must have trained him.” Malaskador said, while frowning, as his body felt limp.

“Ah. I see. That’s worrying. Thanks for your sacrifice. That means we have a godslayer trying to use the heroes as a way to weaken the rest. Probably it is Vizgard, using them to mess with the Free Alliance for working with Evan. I should bury the knights of Zerax for this insolence, but I know better than that. Leaving him to be with Arusha is a far better punishment. That psychotic woman is even worse than Evan, and they choose to put her in a cell. I am sure that Vizgard is suffering for that action.” Azmosdei said, while making sure that Malaskador’s wound was closed, as he changed the bandage which was already soaked in the devil’s blood.

“Saida is using him to catch Moriarty. So maybe it’s old Katas trying to bullshit his way to hurt us. Jackie fucked with the Themerians, by the way. I did play my part. But Kanbe Tokugawa must die.” Malaskador said, gritting his teeth.

“Oh, good. Those rankers should remember the pecking order. Godslayers are just being nice, following the rules. If Evan was around, it’d be a very different song for them. Especially after assisting and abetting an angel who tried to mess with our cute bomber.” Azmosdei said, while smiling.

“They’d be dead by now if so. Also, the hero summoning wouldn’t be required. Dark lord? Black flames. Done. Boiled dark lord for dinner. Oh, sounds tasty.” Malaskador said, as he smirked at Azmosdei.

“You are healed up if you can do such jokes. Or that, or you are so fucked up that you need to joke around. Nonetheless, we already poked the hornet’s nest. Themeria will go after our heads. And when you get the Occult Hotel involved, we will have them both fighting. Magic Corp will go after us too, but probably they’ll choose diplomacy first. But we will also have the guard after you, for attacking the heroes, but we can cover that up by putting the special law placed in all the world by the gods of godslayer business is to be kept out of the mortal laws. Most of Moriarty’s shit doesn’t count, nor Joryujoh’s, but yours does as long as we can prove that there may be a connection between Takuto and Kanbe.” Azmosdei said, pondering on the situation.

“We absolutely can with the boy’s talents. He’s as good as that foolish samurai when it comes to manipulating mana. And looks like him. At least, we can put the doubt.” Malaskador replied calmly.

“True enough. The medieval times work in our favor. For now. Nonetheless, Jackie will also be against the guards because she attacked civilians. It’s not like you can just attack godslayers with her skills, but our cute bomber could have held herself back a bit!” Azmosdei said, while frowning, as Malaskador chuckled.

“Ah, well, you know how the cute belle goes. If it’s not reducing a building to a pile of ashes, it’s not enough to kill someone for her. She’s not Jack-O-Bomba for nothing, after all.” Malaskador said, smiling like usual, while Azmosdei sighed.

“Then stay close to her and stop her.” Azmosdei said.

“Hah! Nope! Not going to even bother! She’ll kill me first, and I am sure she can at least try!” Malaskador exclaimed.

“True enough, I fear. Either way, with this much chaos… We can get the people involved with Donny’s death to forget the business, due to the chaos, and we can get Donny’s implication in Rayne’s death to appear more. That would look like Moriarty did a job for the king, as a bounty hunter to kill Donny for trying to elope with the princess while being a dirty murderer. With all of it done, no one should even bother Jackie either, as we can prove that Jackie attacked someone because they were conspiring to take her out with Leshelle, and we should do so at the same time. In your case, we can say that you had to deal with godslayer business, and you were helping out our innocent bomber.” Azmosdei said calmly.

“Leave it to Woolman to find loopholes in the laws. You should be a lawyer, good sir.” Malaskador said calmly.

“One should learn to do so if they want to get into business. That way, you get all the profits you want to get by being competitive. As long as you don’t cheat your clients.” Azmosdei said calmly.

“Either way, how’s my station going? You know… I need to have it done and all that.” Malaskador asked calmly.

“Found one that needed a lot of repairs, at a cheap price, re-contracted the workers there. Kicked the owner out with enough money to drown an arctic bear, and a hit of my staff. And I got several golems to rebuild the entire thing with the help of the workers. In a few hours it should be done. 400 golems and a few engineers do wonders on this sort of situation. But there’s a sliiiiight thing.” Azmosdei replied.

“Which thing?” Malaskador asked, with a worried tone.

“Well. I added an extra business. A nightclub of sorts. Well, nightclub plus hotel and love hotel… And escorts.” Azmosdei replied, before chuckling for a moment.

“You son of a goblin horde. That’s a brothel, with extra steps and many of those in fact. I fear that I can’t separate the radio tower from that hellhole. You know, I do require a calm and peaceful place to do good retransmissions.” Malaskador said, with a frown on his face.

“No. It’s what the elves call a fertility club. You heard of those. Girls and boys ready to get babies around to help with the declining elven fertility. Elves have always had a few issues with fertility, genetic stuff that I think not even Evan understood. That said, today we are getting you out of your comfort zone a lot. At least enough to get rid of that smile of yours. Evan would be proud of me.” Azmosdei commented with a smirk on his face.

“Make sure that I don’t get my retransmissions messed up by that hellhole. Otherwise, I’ll be considering it a breach of contract. Even if you fulfill the contract we made.” Malaskador warned while frowning.

“You get to handle both businesses. For a tax pay to me, which will be a third cheaper than anyone else would pay for that building.” Azmosdei said, seeing the chance for monetary gain.

“I don’t like that sort of places. It ends up being a toxic workplace. If it was a hotel, I’d be more prone to say yes. But that sort of business, it’s not my thing. I am from Wrath, well… From Earth first, then Wrath, and now here.” Malaskador said while frowning.

“Yeah, I get that. But you put the rules for the business made there. All of them. Consider it an investment. I’ll help with the prices and that stuff. I don’t like that stuff, but turns out the place had an annoying bureaucratic traditional contract with the elven kingdom. It was supposed to be a place to help people have more children, so unless you want a part of your radio show being about that… Yeah. And I can’t find the backdoor of this damnable contract because it’s a tightrope more dangerous than what I am investing in radio. So yeah, adding the radio show and changing a bit the situation to make it a proper fertility club. Just give it a try, and show them how morally right we can make it.” Azmosdei said, as he patted Malaskador’s stomach.

“You know how ironic it sounds, right? Hah, okay. Just because I want to turn it into something less despicable, and more professional than what we know on Earth and in some places of Terra. Maybe I could learn a bit from the dwarves, as repulsive as I find their laws regarding that, but I am not liking where this is going.” Malaskador said while keeping his frown.

“Neither Evan would, but would enjoy the irony of it. That said, you know what he said. Sometimes, the journey can lead to unexpected outcomes. And this time, Evan would be absolutely right. But what matters is that you’ll handle it. Better to leave it to a devil, who probably knows of the sinful ways.” Azmosdei said while trying to avoid laughing.

As Azmosdei and Malaskador talked about the new radio tower situation, Jackie went inside the hideout while smiling. It was as if she had enjoyed a relaxing bath, even if she was covered in soot, and she was happily walking until she saw Malaskador with the broken attire.

“What happened, grinning creep master? Takuto stabbed you?” Jackie asked, as she grinned.

“No. The other Tokugawa. Later I explain all, but fair warning… The bastard may have a godslayer backing him. He knows the basics.” Malaskador said while frowning at Jackie.

“Oh. That’s a problem. Never was good with camouflage. Sensing is another talk. But Mana Camouflage? Oh hell no. And well, I did my part of the plan. Themeria will be angry.” Jackie said with a worried face.

“We know. Malaskador was there, dealing with the Tokugawa boy.” Azmosdei said calmly.

“Has Paytell arrived? She’s so late! It’s unlike her!” Jackie said.

“Nope. But I got notice of something very disturbing while you two were going in that mess. Moriarty just got up, and holed up somewhere. You know, he never does that.” Azmosdei replied.

“Unless it is related to Paytell or Seramine. Both were his ex. Oh, that reminds me. I had my own fun with Seramine today.” Malaskador said, returning to his natural smile.

Both Jackie and Azmosdei looked surprised at Malaskador, since none of them knew that, while Malaskador chuckled cheerfully.

“What!?” Both Jackie and Azmosdei said, surprised by the news.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“Oh, yeah. Evan knew about it. He was the one who talked about it. Also, that time… It was two on one. If you get me. I have been pretty much not interested in that sort of thing, always found the entire logistics of it far too annoying.” Malaskador said, keeping his smile.

“Okay. And he has a wife now? I understand that Seramine can be a tad bit too controlling for Moriarty’s preference. But why dumping Paytell? She’s a cute and nice girl!” Jackie said.

“Paytell’s case, it was due to issues with being addicted to work. Thank Robin for that one, as he made a photo of Moriarty using Paytell’s look to sneak inside Vanicia’s casino. And then chaos ensued. Also, Paytell had a fling with a Magic Corp guy due to Moriarty never being for her.” Malaskador said calmly.

“Ah. Understandable. Nonetheless, any other reason? Before he was calm.” Azmosdei said while looking at Malaskador.

“Robin is coming if so. Moriarty and Robin are… Yeah. Robin is nice, but Moriarty hates him. For reasons regarding his wife, and his daughter. You know how that yankee loves to take embarrassing photos, just to get paid nasty amounts of money. If he was a devil, he’d be in Greed.” Malaskador answered Azmosdei’s question.

“Okay, Robin is coming then. Great… Just because then, Themeria will be coming with everything they’ve got.” Jackie said while taking a deep breath.

“What did he do to Themeria?” Azmosdei innocently asked.

“We’d be done sooner if I said what he didn’t do. That’s how bad the situation is. Themeria has a bounty for Robin. Not that I disagree with what he did. Messing with Seramine is always a good deed in my eyes. The girl is the worst when she wants to, and she has a lot of annoying businesses that border the limits of legality. So you know how Robin goes with that.” Malaskador replied.

“Ah, yes. Well, we will have Themeria focused on us, with a seething hatred. It’s not like we can’t handle them. But they’ll be annoying, that’s a fact.” Azmosdei said while smiling.

“Yeah, and it’s not going to be the soft style. But, well, better for my first retransmission!” Malaskador said excitedly.

“You plan on using the chaos to your benefit. I like that.” Jackie said while smirking.

“Oh, come on. Naria does that all day with the office dramas. It’s not that hard for another devil to take the idea and use it. And if he doesn’t like it, he can sue me! I’ll show exactly that it’s not his thing, and win money for the time lost! Getting him annoyed is good for my heart!” Malaskador said with his smile.

As the trio kept talking about normal things, and plans, none of them could ever notice what could go wrong after that talk. Especially by what was going on somewhere else.

Rei had gone to the most known nightclub of the Doryoh clan, aptly called Doryubori, located in near the center of the capital as a power move against Katas. Joryujoh chose that location to always remember Katas that while he was the king of the elves, the tiger of Doryoh was the king of the elven night entertainment, and everyone knew it.

Working in the Doryubori was considered as being one of the classiest works that any student could get in Andving. They wore fancy suits and dresses, with bright colors, fancy shoes, and accessories like golden watches or golden earrings.

All of it to give an air of refinement, in which everyone could just relax and talk to expensive escorts, which also acted as a restaurant in the mornings and afternoons.

One could say that the Doryubori was the place that never slept, as it had three shifts and the people working in each shift was specifically contracted for that shift.

The club’s outside was imposing, and even awe-inspiring, as it wasn’t a tree. A massive building, of forty floors of height, all made of obsidian with crimson tinted glasses acting as windows and golden frames for the windows. The door was made of maple wood, with golden engravings showing a tiger sitting, and crystal clear door handles.

The club’s shape was like a massive apartment complex, only that in the top there was a distinct japanese roof with tiles and a massive golden tiger on top of the roof, and the clients didn’t even touch the door. Either a boy or a girl wearing a very fitted waist-length golden jacket, with a black band collar, black trousers with a black belt to make it fit for the individual which had a golden buckle, and a black bell-boy hat. Boys wore black Oxford shoes, and girls wore black stiletto heels with golden top soles and heel breasts.

Rei walked to the inside, only to see one of the boys opening the door for her in the most polite way possible, and then being absolutely amazed by the inside of the Doryubori.

The inside was a massive club with red carpet covering all the floor, using the obsidian walls to do a more somber and mysterious air to the club, and mahogany tables and seats. All the chairs had cushions exactly on the area where the people would sit, which made them a lot more comfortable, and the tables were capable of rotation thanks to a small gear system placed just inside the table with buttons in front of all the seats to make the table rotate.

But beyond the tables and the seats, which were all placed in a semicircular manner to allow all the guests to look at a massive stage placed in the northern end of the club which had stairs going upstairs right beside the stage.

The stage itself was made of cedar wood, to make it more bright compared to the rest of the club and get more attention of the guests, and it had right now a group of musicians playing some classic music to make it a more refined ambience for those who went for the morning.

Rei looked around, with an amazed look in her eyes, until a grunt of the Doryoh clan stopped her. It was clear they knew her, but this seemed more like asking for the reason behind her visit rather than to kick her out, as the grunt looked slightly aggressive.

“Miss Rei, why is a wonderful hero here? Did you have a reservation? I fear you don’t, otherwise we’d have more things prepared.” The grunt said, while blocking Rei’s part.

“Oh, no! I came to check if I could work for the Doryubori for a few days. As a way to clean the bad blood between me and Joryujoh. It would have to be a nighttime shift, though, as I have my business as a hero during the day.” Rei said, while smiling at the grunt, which made the grunt raise an eyebrow.

“Hm. It’s true that the boss doesn’t like you. He’s clear-cut about that. I would have to inform him… Well, not really him. Magiro is the man you should talk to. He’s the boss of the Doryubori, and the brother of Joryujoh. He handles all the businesses related to the Doryubori, but his main job is to keep the nighttime shift ready. You must be aware the nighttime shift is less clean than the rest, as you act as an escort more than a waitress in that shift, and that you may have issues with your boyfriend if you do take the job.” The grunt said, clearly understanding what Rei was saying but not believing it, as Rei made sure to keep her posture.

“Okay, so where I can locate him?” Rei asked calmly.

“I’ll guide you to his location. There’s a very strict protocol when it comes to meeting him without an appointment. So I’ll be following said protocol.” The grunt said, as he started walking towards the stairs.

Rei followed in silence, but feeling uneasy, as she knew that talking too much would make it harder for her to infiltrate. To not count that there was a high chance that the grunt wouldn’t even answer her questions about Magiro.

And so the grunt and Rei walked upstairs, as she saw floors with the same sort of floor that the club had, but they were going through floors of massive hallways filled with offices and apartments. It was both an office building and a sort of hotel, the sort used in Japan as love hotels, with a fragrant smell placed all along the floors which relaxed Rei’s nerves with an uncanny effective effect.

“You better get used to the smell, miss Rei. It’s our special relax fragrance, made with a specific drug the clan developed, which can relax even hypochondriac individuals. It ensures everyone is calm and friendly, while amplifying very slightly their desire to have some fun. We have several paper pushers around, mostly lawyers and tax assessing companies.” The grunt said while walking upstairs as the stairs connected with each set of stairs until the last floor.

Rei followed the grunt calmly, until they arrived to the top floor. In there, the arcane hero saw a drastic change in style. The floor was made of mahogany, and Rei could see the windows, and there was only one massive room in this floor alongside a small foyer to greet people.

As Rei was in the foyer, she saw a few seats for individuals to wait their turn and a massive sliding door made of steel.

“I’ll knock first. To check if Magiro is available. He’s a very busy man.” The grunt said before knocking on the door a few times.

“You can get in! But it better be good! I am eating some good quality sushi!” A gruff voice said from within the room.

“Okay, you heard him. But shoes off. It’s a tatami mat, and Magiro has killed people for less.” The grunt said, while pulling the sliding door with his strength

Rei nodded and followed the instructions and entered inside the room. The room itself was traditionally Japanese, if we excluded the massive sliding door and a massive aquarium in the opposite end of the room filled with all sorts of harmless fish, with tatami mat flooring and wooden walls. This room had four cushions to act as seats, placed a few meters away from a massive table with a long rectangular plate with enough sushi to act as dinner, as there were many sorts of sushi, from the usual nigiri to the more rare ones like inarizushi or oshizushi.

Behind the massive table, there was a tall man with tanned skin and several scars on his left eye, a strong constitution, black eyes, human ears with a pair of earrings that looked like miniature tigers, and a black choker with a golden buckle. This man was wearing a black kimono with a golden pattern made of a tiger trying to catch a butterfly.

“Welcome miss Rei. I am Magiro Doryoh. Right hand of the leader of the Doryoh clan and the sworn brother of Joryujoh. I suppose you are here because you want to join to work for us… Let’s drop the pretense. You want to sneak in, and find the man that was sent by Katas to give the commission and the money to Moriarty. And we both know there’s a bitch boy dead because he couldn’t stop himself from trying to break free from his bad decisions, and trying to elope with the princess. I’ll add something more to the information you have. If Evan was around, that bitch boy would have suffered a fate worse than death. That boy wasn’t fit for Saida, we all could see it. But we didn’t do anything about it, because we wanted to allow love to bloom. Well, it bloomed and Moriarty had to nip in the bud before it got worse.” Magiro said calmly, right before grabbing with a pair of wooden chopsticks one of the oshizushi made of grilled freshwater eel,

“Nonetheless, it was a murder. We need to hold accountable both Moriarty and Katas for this. But I also desire to fix the relationship between me and Joryujoh.” Rei said while sitting in a seiza position.

Magiro raised an eyebrow, while getting the oshizushi in his mouth and eating calmly, as Rei kept her position with a calm look on her face. This made the hardened yakuza to look surprised by how easy it had been to fix the possible enmity that could have happened if they antagonized the heroes directly.

‘Is this what you planned, brother? To have this girl mess with you, and then have her know the difference in might? To make her subservient? And here I thought you wouldn’t learn anything new. The risks were high, but the reward is just godly. Fighting the heroes would lead to having to fight all the continent. It’s doable, but then we’d have to fight Baalfira and Sharasta. Again, doable. But then it’d be Asthalos. Doable once more. But by then, the rest of the world would be utter chaos with all the godslayers trying to claim supremacy. And that’s when we would die. Chimeralot and Magic Corp would destroy us. The ideal would be to have the heroes do their duty, and then follow us and Magic Corp, while keeping the rest of the godslayers away. Unless Evan comes back, we could have the factions to lie low.’ Magiro thought to himself, while eating that oshizushi.

“I suppose you are considering the idea. Moriarty has gone too far. It’s understandable that you are too powerful to be held accountable by the world’s laws. But we ask that you have the proper mindset to hold yourselves accountable. Is that too much to ask?” Rei said calmly.

“Hm. I would say it is. Moriarty is of the Free Alliance. No one dares to even entertain the idea of messing with the Free Alliance. Because who knows when Evan will appear once more. And even if he’s not around, his remnants remain. They wouldn’t take that insolence so calmly. With Evan, at least we might have a tiny piece of a chance to convince him. With his family? The mere question is laughable. Touching Evan’s companions is a no. Dare to do so, and you might lose that hand… Or it may be all that remains of your corpse. And that’s without counting the other Heavenlies. Or the fact that Moriarty could and would kill anyone who went after him. Just like Jackie. And truth be told… If he didn’t do the murder, it would have been someone else. And let’s be fair: Heart attack? As a method of killing, that’s a mercy. A terrible way to go, suffered that one myself, but still merciful compared to being stabbed several times or being tortured before being offed. You should thank Moriarty for making it as humane as possible.” Magiro said, right after finishing eating the oshizushi, while looking calmly at Rei’s expression.

“And if we talk about Katas?” Rei asked cautiously.

“The Doryoh clan wouldn’t say no to that. Katas is the one who paid for the kill, henceforth the one and only accountable person for his death. To not count that the elven fool is already dead, he just doesn’t know it yet. Killing Legadonia, even if he used Mina to do so, is something that we all fear. Sooner or later, either Sumeragi or Grandine will have his head… And if it is Sumeragi, we better pray that Evan doesn’t come back. Because Sumeragi has a habit to present the heads of the enemies of the family to Evan. And last we want is to have Evan prodding the elven king’s head.” Magiro calmly replied, while taking a salmon nigiri.

“I guess we can work with those conditions. It’s not like we would fight you in order to catch Moriarty. But I don’t know much of the godslayer factions, so I must ask… Or the Heavenlies if I must be honest. Should we fear them?” Rei said, looking at the sushi.

“The Free Alliance? Look, if you anger Moriarty… You’ll die two times before you hit the ground. If you anger Hermes, you might as well want to be killed by Moriarty. Because Hermes might not kill you, but he’ll strip you of your clothing, pride, and dignity. Then make photos for the journals he works with, alongside a scoop about how you tried to attack godslayers unfairly, and sell them. Gio could easily get almost all the factions to demand your head, one of his weapons is a game changer. Azmosdei could easily pay half the world to kill you, and probably wouldn’t. Jackie could bomb you to kingdom’s come. She did so with Themeria’s bar.” Magiro explained calmly, right before eating the nigiri.

“And the Heavenlies are worse, I suppose.” Rei said, as she watched Magiro eating that nigiri.

“Oh, absolutely. They all are from the Free Alliance, but they do as they wish. You already know of one of them. Wukong. The king of Sansifta. He could cause a lot more of deaths, just with his words, and you are lucky he’s a nice guy. Then, we have Evan. May the gods keep him away for at least a generation. If he appears, you are better off being nice to him than antagonizing him. Darya is more manageable, but you’ll die trying to kill her. She’s too sturdy for her own good. And Elizabeth has gone cuckoo, thanks to the dwarves, which could easily end up being a bloodbath.” Magiro said, after eating the nigiri and taking an inarizushi.

“I understand. I will do my best to avoid that, but for that… We would need proof that Katas asked Moriarty to do so. And even then, he’ll be considered a culprit.” Rei said, as she started sweating from the realization that she could be dealing with people far beyond her actual reach.

“How about you say you didn’t find the culprit? Katas won’t be held accountable for this. You could avoid gaining a king’s enmity. Also, you’d avoid dealing with Moriarty. And about fixing the situation with Joryujoh? How about you come here for a couple of days, night shift I suppose would work best with you. You get paid 15 silver coins per night, plus tips. With one alone, you cover the taxes in Elstivia. In Rivialt, seeing how you have tax exemption for being a hero, you get 15 silver coins plus the tips. And being a hero? Tips will be flying your way. You might get richer than the average nobleman. We stand to profit, as every living soul will come to see you in person, and you stand to profit. I’ll put in some good word to Joryujoh, he’ll listen to reason. But if you want him to be friendly, you need to show proper respect and servitude.” Magiro said calmly.

“Okay. I was advised already to do so. But I can’t. Some of my companions depend on this quest. If we could find some reason to make it less damaging, it’d be wonderful.” Rei said, with a bit of a nervous tone.

“Hm. Donny killed a nobleman. Don’t know who. Check that out with one of our regulars. We’ll give some assistance.” Magiro said.

“Thank you for accepting this kind offer.” Rei replied, while smiling at Magiro even if she was nervous.

Magiro simply nodded, and returned to eating, while Rei waited calmly for Magiro to give an order or anyone told her what to do. She had what she wanted, and luckily that would be enough to start digging dirt on Moriarty and Katas. But what Magiro last said bothered her, as it could be a way to exempt both Moriarty and Katas from what they did.
