Later that evening, King Alexander listened intently, his expression serious. The general and diplomat stood on each side of the throne, and three men stood before him.
The first man began, “Hear me, O King, Sir Hjor at thy service. Long years have I spent in the art of subterfuge, and many a mission for past monarchs have I carried out with success. In matters of espionage, my skill and knowledge are beyond compare.” Sir Hjor was a middle-aged man with a rugged appearance, with a few scars on his face and hands that spoke of past battles.
The king nodded to him and the second man spoke, “O King, I am Urian. Though lacking the experience of Sir Hjor, my heart is afire with a great zeal for the craft of espionage. Youthful and ardent, I am eager to gain knowledge, and I believe that mine innovative thoughts and insights could prove beneficial.” He was a young man in his early twenties, with a lean and agile build. He had sharp features and dark hair that was styled in a messy yet fashionable manner. His piercing green eyes seemed to sparkle with an intensity that hinted at his enthusiasm and eagerness for life. Urian had a small scar above his left eyebrow, which added to his ruggedness. He dressed in practical yet fashionable clothing, with a black cloak that had a silver clasp.
The third stepped forward, his chest puffed out. The goblin stood about waist-high to the humans in the room, with a stocky build and a broad, toothy grin. His eyes were enormous and gleaming, taking in the surroundings with a mix of curiosity and cunning. His voice was deep and commanding with a hint of growl, “Ya, O great boss,” Vasos said, bowing low with a flourish, “Me got long and glittery history in spy-stuff. Me done secret jobs in other kingdoms, and me got friends and news dat can be useful for us. If ya make me spy boss, we gonna have access to juicy secrets and be far ahead of dem enemies.”

After a moment of contemplation, the king turned to Old Croll and General Pikener.
“Lords, I am eager to hear your opinions on these candidates,” he asked.
Old Croll cleared his throat, drawing the king’s attention. “I have had the honor of working alongside Vasos afore, and he is a wily and astute creature, with a penchant for deceit and stratagem. His loyalty to the crown is unflinching.”
General Pikener nodded in agreement. “Your Majesty, I am well-acquainted with Vasos’ achievements and renown as a seasoned spy. With his ample experience and prowess, I am convinced he would make for an exemplary choice for the appointment.”
King Alexander considered their words, tapping his fingers thoughtfully on the armrest of his throne. “Very well,” he said at last. “Vasos, it shall be.” He slapped his hands on his knees. “‘Tis settled then. Thy experience with goblins and confidence in thy abilities speaks to thy potential. Thou art the best fit for the job. I trust thee to serve our kingdom with honor and loyalty.”
Vasos bowed deeply. “Tank ya, boss. Me not let ya down.”
King Alexander turned to General Pikener and Old Croll. “Gentlemen, please work with Vasos to ensure that he has everything he needs to carry out his duties. We cannot afford to underestimate the importance of intelligence gathering.” The King nodded in satisfaction. “Excellent. Let us begin our work. We have much to do.”
