Why did I pick this mission out of them all?
First, I am a wizard. I use the energy that I call 'mana' to cast spells. However, according to N, 'mana', 'Qi', 'power', 'force' and so on are only names given to 'Energy' itself.
As such, while the name is different, Qi and Mana are the same. It is Energy. We simply called it something different due to it being different worlds.
While they are the same, it would also mean that they have a different view of it.
As someone who has reached the pinnacle, or believes to at least, when it comes to 'mana', I am interested to see and experience a different approach to 'Energy'.
Secondly, the reward is something that will boost further acquisition of all energy types. As such, it is something very useful as a reward for starting quests or missions. Since I do have hopes that I will be able to reach new heights, a reward like this will help me greatly moving forward and potentially be enough to break through this bottleneck where I am at.
Thirdly, it is quite clearly stated that the inhabitants of this world are already quite strong and that there are some who would be willing to become allies. It would be quite useful to not be alone since this would be a first for me. Regardless of my strength, I never used it to help anyone but myself until now.
And finally, it is stated that the energy levels, by themselves, are high and useful for growth.
As I gave the paper to N, she looked at me with a strange smile. It was hard to decipher. She asked me: “Do you need to go and grab some equipment from your own world before departing?”
I nodded.
I had been kidnapped so obviously I had nearly nothing on me right now.
Before all this, I had probably been too arrogant. I never thought this kind of situation could happen and never even prepared some back-up gear that I could have taken around with me at all times.
The mistake has been learnt and will not happen again.
She got up and what she did next stunned me.
She moved her hand in a circular motion and a silver portal opened in front of her. It showed my mansion.
She gestured for me to go through.
I did.
I could not help but be amazed at her ability to so easily pinpoint the localization of my abode without having ever been there but, then again, M had done something similar if not more impressive. It had been more flashy for sure though.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
After stepping through the portal, I arrived in front of my own doorstep. N walked right behind me as she stated: “I shall wait here until you are ready, Sir Lark. However, please do not take more than a day or I will have to come get you”
I nodded.
24 hours... should be enough to prepare.
So, first things first, I needed to change.
I was still wearing regular clothes. Not that I was not strong without battle gear but it would not hurt to strengthen myself even further considering that I will be facing the unknown.
I went to my bedroom and slide a gold ring on my index. It is a space ring. Inside it is a giant space created through magic. Using mana, I can store or take out items from within it.
Then, I put on a bunch of other rings, silver ones, with runes on them. They all have the same effects: to boost my innate mana recovery.
I moved on to put on a necklace holding ten rings. It is an artifact I created who can boost the efficacity of my mana usage.
And then, I put on my four black earrings. They boost my ability to restore my stamina and refresh my mind constantly.
Afterwards, it was time for my outfit. I looked within my closet and pulled out my most perfect creation: a pair of black jeans and a black hoodie made from the skin of the Black Imoogi, a snake that was 100 kilometers long or so.
It was practical to wear, very light yet it boasted the greatest kind of defense available in this world of mine. Be it physical or magical defense, this thing was beyond all others.
I also picked socks and shoes made from the same material and boasting with the same values.
Now done with my outfit, I put everything else I owned in my ring and then went to my lab. I proceeded to store every single potion I had ever made in my ring.
I also cleaned out my weapon storage stocking everything within the ring.
As I moved about, I decided to also stock as much food and water as possible and a bunch of items that could potentially be exchanged for that otherworld's money like precious stones, precious minerals, artworks and such.
I still had a lot of time but considering what I had to do next, I was not certain that it was that much. According to the description of the job, I should take these items:
* Qi Absorption Amulet (recommended for balancing excess energy intake)
* Celestial Blade or any weapon enhanced with spiritual energy for demonic cleansing
* Advanced Seal Scrolls for rift closure
Obviously, I have no Qi Absorption Amulet but I did have a bunch of potions and geared tailored to absorbing mana and such. Since I was told that both are simply two names for the same thing, it should be fine.
However, I did not have anything related to the other two.
An advanced seal scroll for rift closure meant absolutely nothing to me. Regardless of my vast knowledge, this was not something I knew. I could not be expected to know something that did not exist in my own world after all. At least, not until now, I guess.
Anyways, I could not do anything about it yet. I would have to first witness those rifts myself.
As for the weaponry for demonic cleansing, I had no such things. There were no 'demons' in my world. However, we did have the concept of monsters much like the Imoogi my outfit was made of. And there did exist some specific magic styles that inflicted higher damages on such monsters.
I decided to consider that demons might be similar to monsters and pre-emptively create a weapon that could embody that.
Monsters are considered to be creatures of darkness here and, as such, light itself is one of their biggest weakness. And light magic obviously exists.
As such, forging a weapon that boosts or includes light elemental magic within itself, was possible. And rather easy for me too.
Of course, what I wished to make was not a random weapon and it would, as such, increase the difficulty of crafting. Not something impossible of course.
I started to work on it using my mana itself as the furnace like any master alchemist with a bit of self-respect would.
And I created a sword since this was what was adviced.
