----------------------------------------

Reading through the quest description, Zinc had his suspicions as well. If there were many priests who had came by recently to clear the spirits floating about in the cemetery, why were there more spooky lights appearing? Could there be more spirits? Not likely…unless someone purposely created more. If so, that would be the worst-case scenario. Hopefully, it did not lead to that. Zinc had hoped that the spooky lights dancing about in the cemetery were something else like a natural phenomenon or at least something much easier to deal with like fireflies or gentle fire sprites.

Nevertheless, the doctor couldn’t make any assumptions here. The best way to find out was for him to pay the cemetery a visit and personally experience the situation. Thus, when night arrived, Zinc headed towards the cemetery to do a stake-out. The hours went by relatively quick, yet the suspicious lights still haven’t shown up. Zinc even had Silver patrol the perimeter in hopes of sniffing out a clue, but there was no luck. Just when he was about to give up and head home for the day, Zinc heard Silver growl followed by the snapping sounds of dead leaves. The dwelf quickly crouched down and held up a hand to calm Silver down. Then, he gazed into the night towards the sounds.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

With his innate night vision, Zinc was able to see an old man scurrying nervously towards a medium-sized crypt. As the doctor moved in for a better look, he overheard the old man mutter a few sentences.

“Just a few more days…just a few more days of scaring away them busybodies and I’ll be rich! I just need to put a few more of these up here and there.” The old man murmured as he hung some lanterns up.

The lanterns! They were the cause of the spooky lights! But then…why was the old man doing this? From what he was muttering earlier…did the old man found a way to get rich? Could it be? Graverobbing? How interesting. Zinc looked over at the old man who hoisted a bag over his shoulders and entered the crypt. The doctor motioned Silver to guard the doors as he headed in after the old man. As he tailed the old man, Zinc couldn’t help but marvel at the engravings on the wall. Judging from the pictures, this was a tomb of a small-scale treasure hunter.

Suddenly, a scream pierced the air. Zinc grimaced and picked up his pace. Soon, he arrived at a long hallway where the old man laid with an arrow embedded deep in his chest. Looking around, Zinc knew that there were hidden traps within the hallway. Zinc examined the body and found that the old man’s lips had changed a hue of dark blue…poison. The doctor did not know whether it was from the arrow or from something else. Zinc covered his mouth and nose and edged away from the body. Quickly, he left the crypt. Treasure or no treasure, it wasn’t worth it to enter alone. Zinc exited the crypt and quickly took down the lanterns. He headed back to the guild to report his findings. Zinc showed the lanterns to the receptionist present and described the possible treasure in the crypt.
