20 : Manual of Magic

20 : Manual of Magic

Ilsung and Park teleported back to his room, after Park left the room Ilsung began to pack his bags.

Ilsung called a cab and headed home.

The car arrived at Ilsung's home after an hour. When Ilsung walked in, he was promptly greeted by Eun, who was happy to hear that Ilsung received his Hunter's License. After chatting with Eun for a while, Ilsung headed to his room.

After setting up his laptop, he started to write the magic manual Park requested. He decided to title the book 'A Manual of Magic and Mana'.

Mana is a form of energy permeating throughout Earth. It's slowly absorbed by the body and can be used to strengthen the body and increase agility. Its Most important use is in casting Magic. It disperses back into the environment as it's used.

Compatibility with Mana determines the volume of Mana that could currently be absorbed and stored. Compatibility could be increased with regular practice and usage of Mana. While Potential determines the hard limit of compatibility, beyond which it couldn't be increased.

Magic is a system through which energy, matter, and even space could be manipulated. Mana is the energy required for this manipulation. While an Inscription is a tool through which this is accomplished.

An Inscription is a complex series of pictographs, symbols, words, numbers, and geometric shapes, some Inscriptions can also contain unique components not seen in other Inscriptions.

Some Inscriptions also contain a few variables which are responsible for determining the tier of the Magic that's cast. There are 10 tiers of Magic, ranging from 1 to 10. With each increase in the tier, the amount of Mana required to cast the Magic increases exponentially. If the Mana of the caster is insufficient to fill an Inscription of a certain tier, the Magic fails to be cast and the Mana is dispersed.

Inscriptions could be etched, drawn, or even carved. But some types of Magic could only be maximized by mentally projecting the Inscription. Projection is a method of casting an Inscription, it consists of intense visualization, through which all the individual components and overall structure of the Inscription are strongly recollected.

The caster needs to focus on a point in space around him, surrounding which the visualized Inscription begins to appear. Once the Inscription is completed by one of the methods, Mana begins to be drawn from the caster, once the Inscription is filled with the necessary amount of Mana, the Inscription rotates and activates the respective Magic.

The Amount of Mana is a product of Mana volume and density, it could be quantized by the following formula : A=(VxD).

While the Mana an Individual could absorb and store is limited by the volume, one way to increase the total Mana reserves/amount is to absorb Mana that is denser. An example would be that of a dungeon, a B-rank dungeon has nearly twice the Mana density as outside, and being able to absorb mana within the dungeon would result in increased total Mana reserves.

Once he finished writing the basics, he proceeded to write an FAQ section. Ilsung anticipated the questions people might have and answered them in thorough detail.

He continued with a new section describing exercises for Inscription projection, along with exercises that could be practiced to improve the control of Mana. He also detailed methods of controlling Mana, how it could be focused into parts of the body, or how it could be pushed externally into an object or weapon.

He started to write the final section of the book.

The following is a list of Tier 1 Magic Inscriptions detailed in this final section of the manual : (1) Object Enhance. (2) Strengthen. (3) Light. (4) Fireball. (5) Icearrow. (6) Frostfire. (7) Haste. (8) Mana Arrow.

He began to draw several Magic Inscriptions on his iPad and imported them to his laptop, he placed the Inscriptions on the left side, followed by the name and details of the Magic on the right.

When Ilsung was done with the book, it was almost midnight.

Ilsung got up from his desk and stretched his body, he was extremely hungry, and he was sure that he missed Eun knocking as he was wearing headphones. He wanted to grab a snack and headed downstairs.

He smiled when he saw a note on the dining table. It was from Eun.

There was a plate covered with a cloche, when Ilsung lifted the cloche there was an assortment of food on the plate. Fried rice, a serving of kimchi, and roasted vegetables.

Ilsung devoured the food and returned to his room. After having a warm bath, he climbed onto his bed and immediately fell asleep.

Ilsung woke up early in the morning and began to proofread the book he wrote the day before. After correcting the errors and checking them one last time, he called Park.

"Hey, I was about to call you, I have some news but you go ahead first."

"I finished writing the book you asked for, I'll send you the manuscript to your email. Should we print a physical copy or do we publish it digitally?"

"A hardcopy makes sense for a book like this, I'll have it looked at by Jim from the Academy, he'll have it printed. What I wanted to say was that I've arranged a meeting with the STB, you'll have to visit them in Washington, D.C. when can you leave for the U.S.?"

"How about tonight? I've got nothing else to do right now."

"If you're ready to go, how about this afternoon? We have a few diplomats headed to the U.S. It's a private jet, it'll be leaving at noon, I'll send a car to your home, be ready by 10 AM..."

"...You'll have to do the sales pitch by yourself, I'll have a dozen copies of the book printed and waiting as cargo. When you land, there'll be someone from the STB waiting to pick you up."

"Great! By the way, did you find out if they have an S-rank dungeon?"

"Although they haven't confirmed it, they most probably do. They were interested in what we have to offer, but they weren't too overly enthusiastic. If you want to access an S-rank dungeon you'll have to blow their socks off, it should be a breeze for you. I'd have accompanied you, but I have a meeting arranged with the President."

"Alright, I'll go pack my things."

Ilsung packed his clothes and put the bag in his storage ring. He unrolled the yoga mat and used it to teleport to the warehouse. He gathered the Daggers, Quarterstaves, and the Magical Gun and placed them all into the storage ring. He teleported back to his room.

After a warm bath, he headed downstairs for breakfast and saw Kang waiting for him.

"Hey Dad, how are you?"

Kang stood up and hugged his son.

"I'm doing great...You look so...strong"

Ilsung laughed "I am stronger...We have a lot to catch up on..."

They talked for a long while. Ilsung showed his Hunter's License and Guild License, he explained he was the first person in Korea to be granted a license much to Kang's amazement.

He told Kang that his Guild would operate as a subsidiary of Black Matter Inc. After having his questions answered, Kang was immensely happy for his son, he congratulated his son and wished him the best. Soon after Kang left for work.

Ilsung lazed around in a lawn chair for a while, and before long a car arrived at Ilsung's home. After confirming the details, Ilsung bid farewell to Eun and got in the car.

After an hour-long journey, the car arrived at a small private airfield outside of Seoul. Ilsung recognized the researcher from the Academy waiting for him. He handed Ilsung a box of freshly printed books. After he left, Ilsung made sure no one was nearby and put the books in his storage ring. Ilsung boarded the private jet.

Soon after the four diplomats boarded the plane, the plane took off.

Ilsung introduced himself to the diplomats, they were surprised when they heard that Ilsung was the founder of Moonlight Guild. After talking for a while, they exchanged contact information, and soon after they began a round of drinks.

After a while, Ilsung excused himself. He soon dozed off in his seat.

~~

Ilsung was dreaming of exploring the universe in a giant spaceship when he suddenly woke up. Ilsung saw one of the diplomats standing beside his seat.

"We'll land in a few minutes so I wanted to wake you up."

"Thanks..."

Ilsung talked to the group for a while before the jet landed. After a final round of greetings, the diplomats got off the jet. Ilsung got up from his seat, after stretching his body he moved the bag out of his storage ring and got down the jet.

Ilsung was soon approached by a sharp-dressed man.

The man extended his hand. "You must be Ilsung, Welcome to Washington, D.C. I'm Matt Cramer, STB"

Ilsung gave a firm handshake. "Hello, thank you for receiving me. I'm Son Ilsung, Moonlight Guild

"We'll head to the STB headquarters, the meeting is scheduled at 2 PM."

Ilsung nodded. "Let's go."
