Ilsung finished his breakfast early and left for Park's office.
"I came here to say Goodbye, I'll be leaving in an hour. Do you have any idea when I might receive my certification and Guild license?"
"You should've asked that question before announcing it to the world." Park quipped.
Ilsung and Park looked at each other and chuckled.
"Due to popular groupthink, which you have conveniently induced in the masses, we have decided to call them 'Hunters'...I have your Hunter's license and Guild license with me."
Park took out a sealed envelope from his desk. He handed the envelope to Ilsung, who began to open it.
There was a certificate that had 'Moonlight Guild' printed in a fancy crimson font. There were a bunch of details below it, but the name at the top caught Ilsung's attention.
"Korean Hunter Bureau. 'KHB'...It sounds pretty cool.." Ilsung smiled.
"I think so too.." Park nodded.
Ilsung also found an ID card in the envelope, it had Ilsung's details like blood group, registered address, and his hunter number, which was 101. There was also a white space on the side, which had 'B' printed on it in a large font.
"Why is my hunter number 101...And what does this 'B' mean?"
Park grinned.
"The first 100 numbers are reserved for instructors...And the 'B' is your rank. We decided to keep the way we rank hunters a secret, mainly to prevent gaming the system, and for the existence of a sense of progression..."
"...Since Korea doesn't have an A-rank dungeon, no matter how good you are we can't hand out an A-rank or above to you. Your rank will be upgraded in time, but the criteria to step into the next rank is complex, though I'm sure it would be a breeze for you."
Ilsung laughed. "Tsk Tsk Tsk...Such plebian tactics."
Park's smile contorted.
"By the way, why are you rushing to leave, why not clear the dungeon a few more times? It will take a while for us to beat the Minotaur, so why don't you help us get some more of that tasty Minotaur meat."
Ilsung shook his head. "You know, I thought about this for a while and I came to a conclusion. I don't think we should eat monsters from the dungeon. This time it was a Minotaur, maybe next time there'd be more humanoid ones..."
"...Once we get into the habit of eating these, it'll be a slippery slope... It's a complex ethical dilemma you know."
Park was confused. "Hey, what the hell, you were the one who told us we should eat them. Even if you don't reveal that the monsters could be eaten to gain Mana, someone's bound to discover it on their own, how will you stop them..."
"...And I never took you for someone who'd get hung up on ethics, and now you're on the verge of being a hypocrite."
Ilsung sheepishly said "Hey it was just a thought, don't get offended. We can't stop it I guess..."
"What about the auction you planned to hold... did you finalize what you're going to auction off.." Park changed the subject.
"Yeah, It'll be weapons...But I may have to postpone the auction or host it in a different country altogether..."
Park was taken aback "Whoa...Buddy don't decide such things on a whim, we have a lot riding on this auction. It will greatly enhance Korea's reputation and standing if we could hold a successful auction with great items, you shouldn't deprive the nation of such a great opportunity..."
"...And I planned to surprise you with this news but I'll say it now, I'm going to be the head of the KHB, and I had high hopes for this event. I was planning to ride your coattails to fame."
Ilsung burst out laughing, "You don't have to be that honest. Ok settle down, the reason I said so was that I want immediate access to an A-rank dungeon. If I want such access I might have to do something in return, I was hoping to trade the auction venue for it."
Park thought for a while "Hmm, gaining access to an A-rank dungeon would be hard, especially since no country other than us has published the number and ranks of dungeons. They won't reveal it so easily."
"Hmm, that's what I thought...My ambitions are global, I can't restrict myself or the Guild to Korea alone. I'll have to partner with other governments at some point, so the sooner the better."
Park remained silent for a while, after a long sigh, "Fuck...Now You're making me think KHB is going to be lame in comparison..."
Ilsung smiled.
Though I didn't see him in combat, chief Park's aura and Mana pool are pretty good. But I can sense that his potential and compatibility are extraordinary among Humans, with my help he can reach a very high standard, he will be indispensable if I can recruit him...He also has ample military and political connections. I should give it an earnest try.
"Chief Park, do you have any intention of being part of Moonlight Guild? I can promise you there won't be a shortage of money, fame or anything else...If you join me, the sky is the limit for us."
Park smiled, and after a while, he replied calmly "That's an enticing offer, but I think I'll be able to accomplish more as head of the KHB."
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
He hesitated for a bit...I can surely reel him in with a hook. If I truly want him to be a partner I can trust, I'll have to be honest and reveal the truth to him.
"Hmm...Ok, but I have something to show you...It's back in my dorm, would you accompany me?"
Park smiled, "Um...Sure. You aren't planning to kill me because I rejected you right?"
Ilsung smiled, "Let's go."
~~
Ilsung opened the door to his room, walked in along with Park, and closed the door behind him.
"Just a second..." Ilsung took out the yoga mat from under his bed.
He unrolled the yoga mat and placed it on the floor.
Park asked curiously. "What's with the yoga mat? You don't plan to show me some yoga moves do you?"
"Something like that, come on, stand on the mat."
Park stood opposite Ilsung, facing him. He noticed the strange carvings on the yoga mat, "What are..."
As Park began to speak, a bright light was emitted from the carvings on the mat. Park's vision blanked for a while and when his vision recovered, he was in a room with computers and large cabinets and he was now standing on a wooden plank.
A thought ran across Park's mind and he yelled loudly "What the fuck...Did we just teleport here?"
"Yes, this a workshop that I set up, it's located on our farm. Let's go to the backyard."
Ilsung and Park walked out of the computer room and walked through the warehouse and reached the backyard through the door at the end.
Park looked at the machinery in the warehouse, but he wasn't surprised, at the moment he only thought about how he was teleported here.
How could Ilsung teleport us here and how does he know such advanced magic, this can't be explained by a simple bonus from the system. It was just a training dungeon, why would the reward be such an advanced skill like teleportation.
"I have some extraordinary secrets, I hope you'll be willing to join me once you hear them. But I have to warn you, once you opt to hear me out, it's going to be a one-way street there's no turning back."
Park sat on a tree stump and looked at Ilsung intently, his interest was piqued and he was beyond curious, he felt there was a deep mystery to Ilsung and he wanted to uncover it. "I'd like to hear more..."
"Good, as I warned, there's no turning back."
Park nodded.
System. Is it safe to tell him? And can you hack his system or try to unlock it?
It should be safe to tell him, right now the systems aren't programmed to report back, but once the Dungeon Core takes over, all events and information will be reported back. I can't unlock other systems right now, I'll have to fully get rid of my limitations and program controls to be able to do that.
Can you do it once you're upgraded?
No doubt about it, I can do it.
"The theory that the Arken are aliens is indeed true, but besides them, there are many worlds with life, some of these civilizations are so advanced as to have light-speed travel..."
Park was stunned, he couldn't understand why Ilsung was stating it so confidently "What? So the galaxy is full of aliens?...How do you know this..."
"I have a monologue to deliver, ask your questions at the end."
Park nodded.
"As I was saying, we are not the only intelligent life in this galaxy. There's a world a few light years away from Earth called Farvin. There were Humans on Farvin, along with many other sapient races. Orcs, Elves, Trolls, Goblins. Many creatures and monsters from myths and legends existed on Farvin."
"Farvin has been home to Mana and magic for several thousand millennia. Due to external manipulation, Humans and the other races of Farvin were at war for centuries, the various races were annihilated and only a small fighting force, which was sealed away, remained."
"I'm from Farvin, I'm one of the surviving members of the sapient races, only recently did we manage to break the magic prison we've been sealed in. I have lost my corporeal body in the process, to regain a physical body I used powerful magic to transmigrate my soul to Earth. After the death of the previous owner of this body, I have come to possess it."
"A surprising series of events took place soon after I came here, the Arken have come to Earth, and unexpectedly Mana began to flow on Earth. With the help of my system, just a few days back I came to know about the world and the various alien worlds in it."
"I also came to know that most of the sapient beings on Farvin have been annihilated by the Arken. Because of their incompatibility with Mana, they are now running an experiment on Earth, wishing for us to combine technology with Mana, so they can harvest it for their own ends."
"There's a lot more to this story, but you'll have to wait. I need immediate access to an A-rank dungeon so I can fully unlock my system, once it's fully unlocked I can help you do the same. Once it's done, you'll get to learn the entire story from the system."
Park was left speechless, after an hour of deep thought, he began to speak.
"I don't even know where to begin, is any of this really true?..."
"It is true, Once your system is unlocked, you can query it directly."
"...Then is Earth in danger?"
"Probably. I plan to use my guild to amass resources and information to figure out a solution. Humanity needs an organization that could develop means to counter such threats. I'm confident I could achieve that..."
"...What do you say. Will you be a part of this journey? Will you help me achieve this?"
Ilsung extended his hand.
Park shook Ilsung's hand "I will."
Ilsung spent the next few hours answering Park's questions. They ranged from serious to mundane, while some questions Ilsung had no answers to.
~~
"So Earth and Farvin are closely related...Is there any chance for other Human worlds to exist?"
"Maybe...Nobody knows...The universe seems to be a great unknown waiting to be explored"
Park nodded "Reality is stranger than fiction indeed..."
"...So if the Arken are incompatible with Mana, how did they induce it on Earth. From your explanation Farvin doesn't seem to be technologically developed, so how did the Arken achieve this?"
"As I said, once I help you unlock the system, you can know the answers to your remaining questions. Much of this information is new to me as well, I'm not informed enough to answer your questions, my system is yet to be fully unlocked."
Park nodded. "I'll get you access to an A-rank dungeon, and an S-rank one too if it exists. Though you'll have to fork out something in return. You should compile a detailed instruction manual on how to cast inscriptions, and then you could describe a few simple magic Inscriptions and their uses. Selling this information would be beneficial to Earth's security, we can't be too greedy and hoard the information..."
"...I also think that we should reveal some of the facts and rally the world together. The security of Earth shouldn't depend on a single organization, we should reserve a portion of our knowledge to remain ahead of the rest of the world, but the rest of the critical intel should be revealed to the world at large. We don't have to do it for free, we can sell it for as much as we please but the information must be out there."
Ilsung pondered for a while.
I failed to consider this...A different perspective...A Human perspective is certainly required for my way forward. If I want to prevent the destruction of Earth and secure the fate of Farvin, collaboration and transparency is the key.
"I appreciate your opinion, I now realize that transparency and availability of information are vital for Earth's security. How do you think should we proceed?"
Park thought for a while "Before the training period on Earth is over, we should convene a high-level meeting, you'll have to unlock the systems of a bunch of people and then we will proceed to reveal key details. We could leave the part about you being an alien...It will only complicate things."
Ilsung nodded. "We should return, It's lunchtime already."
"Yes... I'll have to get busy. I'll meet with the President in the coming few days and convince him to do a few things for us."
Ilsung was surprised "You can do that!?"
Park grinned "Of course, you seem to have underestimated me...There's no better ally than me in Korea."
Ilsung laughed "Who's the boastful one now.."
