Chapter 19: Warrior's Guild

[First chapter of the day. Enjoy!]

"The name's Khara. What's yours?" Khara asked, looking at the ordinary-looking newcomer.

"Asura."

As Asura and Khara chatted idly while partaking in the dishes on the table, Asura found out quite a few things from Khara. In the Blackfire Orphanage, the children are free to do whatever they want, so long as they did not cause trouble for others. They can also go outside of the Blackfire Orphanange, but they must come back before sundown. Otherwise, they will be grounded for a week.

Upon hearing this, Asura was somewhat relieved, as he had been thinking of sneaking out of the orphanage to go to the Warrior's Guild.

Also, the orphans at Blackfire Orphanage are not allowed to idle all day. Every evening, they are assigned to their respective tasks, such as tending to the garden flowers, cleaning the mansion floors, etc. This rule was made to promote cleanliness and hygiene among the children.

Lastly, the Warrior's Guild at District 4 provides free warrior training to anyone, so that anyone can be given basic skills to defend themselves against low leveled magical beasts. However, the training provided there cannot be compared to those that are provided at the various Schools around the Kingdom of Blackfire.

After finishing his breakfast, Asura excused himself and walked out of the Dining Hall, towards the mansion entrance.

"Oh my, you're going out so early?" Nanny Lan was trimming the flowers at the garden, and spotted Asura coming out of the mansion.

"Yep! I want to look around the districts. See you later, Granny Nan!" Asura smiled, and ran out of the gates.

"Eh?" As Asura passed by Nanny Lan, she suddenly got the feeling that she had known him from somewhere, but could not put her finger on it. Thinking that it was part and parcel of becoming old, she quickly dismissed the thought, but her heart still felt somewhat uneasy.

Following the directions to the Warrior's Guild that was given to him by Khara, Asura finally arrived at the Warrior's Guild after 20 minutes of walking. As he approached the massive temple that stood at approximately 50 metres in height, he could see six statues of fierce looking warriors on each side of the temple, each of them holding a different weapon. As if they were guarding the temple, the statues were all giving off an air of intimidation.

As Asura entered the Warrior's Guild, he could see multitudes of muscular men armed with weapons of all sorts. Some of them were looking at a large wooden board hung on a wall, full of wanted posters and missions such as hunting down a particular magical beast, while there were others who were shouting out at the top of their lungs.

"Last slot for a four man party to hunt a 6th level magical beast at the Valley of Magical Beasts!"

"Looking for a partner to help with a 3 star ranked escort mission!"

Pushing his way through the crowd while earning strange looks in the process, Asura finally reached the reception corner that was being attended by a woman that seemed to be in her forties. "How can I help you, young man?" The receptionist asked when she saw Asura approach the reception desk.

Upon hearing her words, some of the nearby warriors started to snicker.

Reaching into the patched robe that was given by Nanny Lan, Asura took out the jade ring and raised his hand forward, letting the receptionist take a good look at it. "I need someone who can help me identify this ring."

"Please head to the third floor, and ask for Appraiser Dior." The receptionist replied monotonously, not paying Asura much attention. Suddenly raising her head as if she noticed something, her eyes narrowed as she took a closer look at the boy, with a look of disdain on her face.

"Did you bring money?"
