Hello there. My name is... well, nevermind. You can call me the Narrator, though. And, to correct the Author's words, I'm not God's friend, but rather his minion who he pushes around and loads his own work over all the time...
*Sigh...*
But, that doesn't matter right now. I won't ruin your reading experience of such exquisite -as if- work.
Let's get to the point. And so, I'll take it back where God left it at, right after he forcibly snuck in poor Eugene's brain.
----------------------------------------
Eugene always thought about himself as a normal guy with little or none luck. Weird stuff always happened around him, and even though he got used to this after living with it for fifteen years, it wasn't pretty.
Take yesterday for example. He goes out, thirsty of a nice, cold malt, until... Bam! The guy walking right besides him suddenly gets mugged. If it weren't because the guy in question knew Aikido, who knows what would've happened to him? Fortunately, the guy did. Unfortunately, Eugene had to stand the mugger's screams of suffering until the police came and got the angry aikidoka out of the mugger's back... Or was it his leg? Well, he was tied up in a human knot of sorts, so Eugene couldn't tell.
But this? This was by far the weirdest thing happening to him in his life. Hearing voices inside his head? Suddenly getting teleported to an alien place? Either he was dreaming, or he was crazy. And he didn't like the second choice. So the first one would be.
Then, as if waiting for him to reach that conclusion -or not, really, he was just trying to deceive himself,- fate gave him a new reason to worry about.
Namely, the green game-like window popping in his vision field.

Oh, so this is that kind of dream, he thought.
As someone who had seen his share of GameLit anime and manga, of course he would have this kind of dream in regular basis. A dream where he found himself in the skin of whatever game's avatar. More often than not the games were completely made up... although he did dream he became the protagonist of that widely-known survival cube-based game.
This was, of course, yet another case of the bunch.
In these cases, the usual would be carrying on as if the game were the real life, as he would wake up on his own sooner or later. There was no lose in getting to the bottom of the game system, after all. Who knows, maybe it would even help him in his wannabe programing career.
"Proceed it is then."
The green window disappeared with a light pop. Soon after, a new one took it's place. This one looked exactly like the previous one, text aside.

"Sure will do pal."
Immediately after, an icon popped up on the corner of his vision field. Green, as well, as it seemed this was the trending color today. Or rather, in this dream.
By focusing on the oh-so cliched icon that might has well just say "hello, I'm a status window trigger" out loud, sure enough, a status window appeared.

Well this is new, is what Eugene thought. In his usual dreams, game mechanics were a lot simpler than this. Health bar, Mana bar, skills and stats. That would be all. This, however, seemed to break with that boring cycle. He felt intrigued. And confused.
"Is there some way for me actually understand what this is supposed to mean?" Because he understand such simple mechanics, he never had the need to actually ask what each thing was supposed to mean. It had backfired on him.
"Hmmm... Every window up' till now responded to mental commands, so..."
Maybe mentally asking for an explanation would be enough? Probably, he reckoned.
Status Represents one's current status graphically.
"No kidding. Hadn't realized before" Annoying it was, getting such obvious words. That wasn't exactly what he was looking for. But he wouldn't give up so easily! If this hadn't worked, maybe being more specific about it would do?
"Alright. What about my own name?"
Name It's one's soul identifier. The more names one has, the more unique his name becomes, making the soul stronger. Current name: Eugene (Rarity: C)
"...Wow. That's actually not obvious at all." That's what questioning the system's worth does. Now I have to eat my own words, he thought. But alas, at least he understood how the system's 'help' of sort worked out.
"Still, what does 'making one's soul stronger' mean? As much as I'd like some cool soul beam attacks, I don't think that's what that's supposed to mean."
Soul It's the core of one's existence, as well as the vessel for one's potential. A powerful soul means more potential to develop.
"I see. So your own soul's strength determines your growth potential... And that's connected to your name, among other things. Say, I can't change my own name, by any chance?"

"Makes sense to me..."
He let himself fall in the emerald-green grass mantling the 'peaceful' plains. He would take his time exploring this so called 'system' before going out and rampaging in the startpoint lands.
Prudence is the mother of good fortune, after all.
