Chapter 10; Isla's lesson on numbers

Chapter 10; Isla's lesson on numbers

"Now, remember; Say it outloud." I said to the royal-azure haired girl, she had changed clothes from a maid outfit, to a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, normal shoes, and fingerless gloves. Why fingerless gloves? Because she found them cool or something? I don't know, I just released her into the stockpile of clothes I got as gifts for my servants in parties and stuff, I have no clue what's in there. Maybe I'll look into how much money is stuck in there, not fueling my economic interests.

"Okay," Isla took a deep breath "'Status'." She quickly jerked back in slight shock, how you'd expect someone to react when they first access their status.

"Now, say 'I wish to show my master my status', okay?" I said as if understanding her shock.

Isla again took a deep breath "I wish to show my master my status."

'Isla' wishes to show you their status, do you accept?

Yes/No

I mentally licked 'yes'.

Name; Isla Race; Homeo-sapien Contracts; None Essence; 0 Skill points; 0 HP; 20/20 .03/s MP; 100/100 .4/s Age; 5 cycles Settings STR; 2 AGI; 3 VIT; 3 END; 2 INT; 5 WIS; 4 CHA; 12 LCK; 11 Skills Basic rot resistence, lvl 7, F; 87%/100%

Basic disease resistence, lvl 4, F; 23%/100%

-Basic plague resistence, lvl 1, F+; 11%/100%

Basic malnutrition resistence, lvl 2, E; 53%/100%

That's pretty good actually, the stats, not the skills. A 5 INT is pretty good for her age, really good actually, though WIS should've been a 5. CHA is better than mine, so it shouldn't be that unreasonable to make her talk to people for me, maybe. If I can make her loyal and train her in the art of lying.

Though that was secondary, and I opened another book what does 'Darkness recticulum' mean?

"What is this thing?" Isla asked, I said while I was scouring the book in front of me "It is called the system/framework, it is in the form of a screen, and it is showing you your status." Though her skill exp is put in % on default, I'll look into it later.

"What's a status?" Here, 'Manifest 7th order darkness mana and use the darkness recticulum to refine 1st order darkness arcana.' "It numerizes your attributes and profiencies, and shows other aspects of your being, such as; age, mana, health, your name, your race, your essence amount, how many skill points you have."

I wrote down the quote in my note book and read further through the book, there are two possibilities I can think of now; it's an artifact, or; it's a magical construct. Not sure which.

Isla didn't know what to do now "What are you doing?"

Here!; 'A darkness recticulum is created by 4 arcs aspected to darkness, with a ball of 6th order light mana for tempering of darkness mana. The specific creation process is held in 'Arcana and how to create it'.' "I'm researching things of the past."

"Can I help?" Did I have 'Arcana and how to create it?', let's see... "No, you can't." "Why?" 'Arcana 101', 'Aspected arcana, what is it?', 'Basic arcane constructs.'. So no 'Arcana and how to create it' "Because you don't have all the foreknowledge needed to do this, because this is very confusing, it's like a skill."

Basic linguistics, lvl 1, F+; 23/100 exp. -Increases the speed of understanding languages.

Basic magical knowledge, lvl 1, D; 763/10000 exp. -A quantitive from of your magical knowledge.

Basic ancient knowledge, lvl 3, D-; 4623/30000 exp. -A quantitive from of your ancient knowledge.

Basic word interpetation, lvl 1, F+; 12/100 exp. -Causes miniscule increases in the speed of interperation of words.

Well that's nice.

"Then what can I do?" "Uh... I guess you can listen to my ramblings." Isla seemed quite excited at that.

"Money, the best thing to exist. It births the economy, which creates capitalism, and mafia/cartels. But it creates also; the greatest evil, 'Taxes'. Did you know that water is made of H and O? Gravity is a thing, because space-time is warped by mass. But what is the meaning of 1/173!?" "-What?"

I paused for a moment "...How about I filter my ramblings? That's a good idea." Of course those ramblings I gave her weren't my real ramblings, those were some I had on earth. These days it's all about beasts, money, magic and artifacts.

"Did you know that the world is made up off extremely small things called 'Atoms'? You are made of atoms, I am made of atoms. And atoms are made off of neutrons and something else." "..." Isla didn't really know what to say. Back to the book I was reading, hmm? 'Darkness aspected arcana of the 1st order can be used to create constructs that can interact with the physical realm like all other arcana.'

"What's 9+10?" "?" I looked at Isla, who did not know anything about math. I wanted her to say '21', but my small wish could not be granted.

"Come here." Isla obliged. What even is arcana? "I am going to teach you the magical 'Four functions', the foundation of mathmatics!" If arcana can interact with the physical realm, that means that it is either a force or an object. Just like how the force of gravity, or the strong nuclear force "If there was a person standing there, how many people would be standing there?" "One?" "Correct! Good job~ Now, what would happen if we put 3 extra people there?" "One?" "Wrong! It's four, because 1+3=4!" If arcana were a force, then would it be a fundamental force of reality, or would it be like a propelant? But if it could be shaped into a hand and used to block weapons and such, wouldn't it need mass?

"Now, if we take away two of the four people, how many people will stand there?" "Four?" "Nope, 2." Isla seemed to not be having fun, and I realized her problem, she didn't recognize numbers. If I were to truely care I would teach her the earth's numerization system, but I didn't, so I teached this world's system. Their way of numbers was sub-par at best, but they still did well in that department, so it shouldn't be that big a problem.

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

I took a piece of parchment and quickly wrote down the numbers, how to pronouce them, and an associated number of circles, now reprisented with a box!

"Look at this, the highest symbol is associated with the lowest assortment of stars. Tya is one star, Gerpha is two stars, Quante is three stars, Retumles is four stars, ectera. now; let's try this again, there is a person standing there, how many are standing there?" "One?" "Correct, now, if we add Quante people there, how many will be there." I pointed to the piece of parchment "Four?" "Correct, now, if we take away Gerpha people, how many are left?" "Two." "What a fast learner you are! You're allowed to keep the parchment by the way."

Isla took the piece of parchment away without any shame, then asked "What was that about?" "You just learned two of the four functions; addition and subtraction. When I put more people there it was addition, but when I took those Gerpha people away I subtracted them from the total of Retumles." That's strange... 'Symphonic memorial'? What's that?

You have gained the skill 'Basic teaching E'

Wow! That's amazing!

Isla was amazed that she had learned so quickly, as she looked at her own screen "Wow, I got a new skill!" Hol' up, wait a minute; A 'Symphonic memorial' is the resonance of different mana's that create a multiplicative effect "What's it called?" "It says... 'Basic mathmatics F+'."

Wait... She has a skill I don't?! I can not accept this! I quickly took some parchment and started to calculate at the highest order;

> 3x(x-2)=0

>

> 3x*x=3x2 3x*2=6x

>

> 3x2-6x=0

>

> 0-0=0

>

> 3x3=9 1x=6 9-6=3≠0

>

> 2*2=0.66*6=4 4-4=0

>

> x=0 or x=⅔

To be honest, this isn't that hard actually. This wasn't hard enough for a skill in my personal oppinion.

> (3x-6)(5x-2)=0

>

> 3x*4x=12x2 3x*-2=-6x 5x*-6=-30x -7*-2=14

>

> 12x2+(-6x+-30x)+14=0

>

> 12x2+36x+14=0

>

> a=12 b=36 c=14

>

> D=(36)2-(4-*12*14)=624

>

> ------b±√D-----12±√624----12±√624

> x = ———— = ————— = ——————

> -------2a---------(2*12)----------24

>

> x=1.54 V x=-0,54

I smiled arrogantly, but then realized.

> (3x-6)(5x-2)=0

>

> 6:3=2

>

> x=2 ((3*2)-6)=0

>

> A*B=0

>

> 0*B=0 0*(5x*-2)=0

>

> x=2 or x=(2;5=0.4)/x=0.4

I felt dissapointed, but I had gained the skills I wished for.

-Gained skill 'Basic mathmatics F+'

-Skill 'Basic mathmatics''s limit broken, evolved into 'Lesser advanced mathmatics C-'

I discarded the two correct calculation records to Isla "Read that and try to understand what I've done."

But then he paused "Wait, I still need to teach you multiplication and division."

He cleared his throat "If you divide 3 by 2 you get 1.5, because 1.5 2's fit inside a 3. If you divide 17 by 31 you get- I mean if you divide 4 by 8 you get 0.5, because that's how many 8's can fit in a 4. Understand?" Isla shook her head. So I decided to just write examples.

> 2:5=0.4

> 15:3=5

> 77;7=11

> ect.

>

> 5*2=10

> 6*11=66

> 3*4=12

> ect.

I made a giant list, which she would need to use her critical thinking skills for. I gave her a piece of parchment, and a piece of charcoal from a drawer. I personally used ink "There are a lot of numbers you don't know in this, so I reccomend you figure out what they are by putting them in with their associated tally marks."

"What are tally marks?" I sighed and showed her by putting up the tally marks with their associated marks.

> ৲ = /

> 𝄃 = //

> △ = ///

> ♊︎ = ////

> ꧁= /////

>

> ꧂= /////

>

> ও = //////

> 🝃 = ///////

> 🝧 = ////////

> 🝪 = /////////

> ꧁꧂= //////////

"Now, count with me, Tya has one tally mark. Gerpha has one, two tally marks. Quante has one, two, three talley marks. Retumles has one, two, three, four tally marks. Get it?" After seeing Isla nod, I smiled slightly, and I returned to my calculations.

But instead a knock resounded at the door.

I opened the door and the previously defiant servant and a few other servant put down many, many records, sources and anecdotes. All to do with money, economics, spread sheats, all the good stuff.

What was this based off? All the main players and a few small players.

Just as a warning to normies who are bad at math and are frightened by big numbers, maybe skip the next chapter.
