Chapter 2

After leaving the peak of the desolate mountain, it only took Shad a few minutes before he arrived at the Everdes lake.

Everdes was both the name of the mountain range and also the lake. The lake was extremely huge and was surrounded by undulating mountains that formed a circle.

Up until a year ago, Everdes Lake was considered a forbidden ground of the Everdes mountain range and also the grave of anyone foolish enough to venture inside due to the giant and notorious Green Horned Serpent nesting within.

The giant Green Horned Serpent was a peak 4th Class Magical beast. It was an extremely powerful and dangerous magical beast.

It was known for its craftiness as well as its poisonous breath that could even melt metals, let alone one’s bone.

Nonetheless, despite its power and notoriety, the giant Green Horned Serpent was beheaded by Shad soon after breaking through the 4th class mage in a long and arduous battle.

Ever since then, the Everdes Lake has become his territory and comfort zone in the Everdes Mountain range.

Swoosh!

Standing next to the lake and watching its calm waters, Shad suddenly released his powerful magic sense which allowed him to detect anything within the 200 meters radius including within the lake.

Shad was a very cautious individual. Even though he had cleared out all the magical beasts in the surrounding areas, he always scanned his surroundings before entering the lake.

After making sure that there wasn’t anyone or any threatening existence nearby, he slowly took off his old and tattered training clothes, revealing his chiseled body before stepping into the lake and comfortably soaked in it.

After a few seconds, he couldn’t help but take a deep breath due to the comfort before mumbling to himself.” Two years, huh. I wonder what mother and the others are doing right now?”

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

Thinking about his caring and loving family, shad’s lips couldn’t help but curve into a smile, especially when thinking about his mother.

At the same time, his mind suddenly

traveled through space and time, to a distant place where he was destitute.

A place where he didn’t have a family nor anyone that cared for him. He was both an orphan and a homeless. He was considered a dreg of society.

“No, that’s not enough. I need to get even stronger, stronger than anyone else’s if I want to protect them and preserve our way of life.” Shad muttered to himself quietly with a determined look on his face.

Compared to his previous world, this new world was even more dangerous and barbaric. This was a world where the law of the jungle was at its finest.

This world was a realm similar to Earth’s European Middle Age Era, a medieval hierarchical world.

However, unlike Earth in the Middle Ages, this world has a mysterious and powerful energy known as mana.

The ambient mana in Eidrin was extremely dense and abundant, allowing a group of powerful beings known as mages and warriors to reign supreme over the rest of the populace.

Nonetheless, despite the ample ambient mana in Eidrin world, mages were exceedingly rare and precious existence as only 5% of the population had the talent and the qualifications to become one.

Even among the 5%, there was a clear distinction of innate talent. This was the defining factor in a mage’s strength since innate talent couldn’t be increased or trained in any way.

There were various ways to measure one’s innate talent in the world of Eidrin. The two most common were the soul intensity test and the mana reaction test.

Through these types of tests, a mage was categorized into one of nine colors, from weakest to strongest, Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, purple, silver, and gold.

According to legend, there was another color above gold, but it was considered a myth by most people since it only appeared once in the history of Eidrin.

Mages were described both by their current strength, and their innate talent. For example, a 1st class violet mage was a mage who was only a 1st class mage in terms of strength but had the potential to become a 6th class mage in the future.

One’s innate talent determined one’s future. For instance, roughly 40% of the mages had Red Level talent and could only remain 1st class mages for their entire lives due to their red level talents.

Beneath the mages were the warriors, sometimes known as knights. Unlike mages who borrowed power from the natural elements for the use of magic, warriors used aura to strengthen their bodies and their weapons. Just like mages, they were also ranked from the 1st class to the 9th class

They were all weapons masters that excelled in close quarters combat and were known for their raw power and speed. They were the natural enemies or the nemesis of the mages.

Unlike mages, warriors didn’t have a measure of talents. As such, it was impossible to know just how strong one could become in the future.

Nonetheless, despite having such a clear weakness to a knight, mages were still at the top of the food chain due to their advantages in warfare.

In a short time period that a strong and well-trained knight could kill ten people on a battlefield, a powerful mage could easily kill a hundred people, which was why they were more valued than warriors.

It’s also the main reason why the military might of a nation or empire was generally proportional to the number of its powerful mages.

As far as Shad knew, there were only ten 9th class mages and eleven 9th class warriors in the entire world.

“I need to at least break through the 9th class if I want to make a difference.” He added as he thought about the numerous monsters and powerful existences in the Eidrin world.

He might be considered a genius due to his strength and age, but he was still nothing in front of those peak existences.
