Prologue - Waking Up

Prologue - Waking Up

Waking up to a pounding headache, and in a puddle of blood is never a fun thing. Most people would put waking up in a puddle of blood as something dissatisfactory. Waking up in such a situation is never fun, especially in this case.

Trying to look around with a pounding headache while you start to notice that the blood you were sleeping in is yours is also not fun. Figuring out that the blood is coming from the copious amount of injuries on your body is a terrible start to a day.

Actually looking at your surroundings and figuring out that you are not the only body around you is an even worse start to a day. Understanding that the bodies around you are not even remotely human in any way, shape or form is terrible. The beginning of this day did not start out how I wanted it to.

Actually getting up off the ground is a struggle within itself, the injuries, headache, and horror of the situation finally coming full force to me. Looking down at myself and finding out that I am also one of the alien things that are on the ground is just another shock to my body.

The only thing I know at the moment is that I am currently severely injured and possess a completely unknown body. Trying to stop myself from hyperventilating at the sheer abnormality of the situation is a trying task.

Before I know what's happening a twisting feeling rushes over the entirety of this body, and then I am moving. I am moving throughout space, things are moving so quickly that my vision is blurring, the twisting is getting stronger and stronger. Then with a deafening crack I am somewhere else.

The place is somehow even more dark and dank then the previous one, with dark-red cracked brick walls and flooring. The situation for me is getting worse and worse by the literal second, heavy footsteps are coming down what appears to be stairs in this dank place. Whatever is coming down those stairs is not something I wish to fight, the footsteps are getting closer. Each step sounding more foreboding than the last.

I look around, trying to peer through the darkness that permeates the room. All the while, the footsteps grow louder. Scrambling on the ground, hoping and, praying to find any sort of weapon to defend myself with. My hand brushes against what appears to be a plank of wood. I rush towards it, picking it up, and with newfound confidence in my weapon, I turn around and brace myself for the worst.

What appears down the stairs is beyond all my expectations, a tall white man wearing a black bathrobe with an angry look on his face emerges from the darkness into my line of sight.

“Elf!” the man shouts, quickly breaking my dazed confusion. I rush at the man with my plank of wood, which appears to make the man even angrier. With movement faster than I can see, the man whips out a stick of his own. Before I get in range to knock the man's weapon out of his hand, a word I know all too well gets hissed out of the monsters mouth in front of me, “Crucio.”

With a quick burst of light, a billion needles are shoved into every orifice of my body, meant to cause the most excruciating pain possible. Every single one of my nerves burned in agony, but I could do nothing but writhe on the floor in pain.

Just like how it began in an instant, it ended in an instant. Seemingly infinite agony gone like the wind. I stay still momentarily, curled up in the fetal position, trying to forget the pain.

Before I can steady myself an order is barked at me, “Elf! Stop your pathetic whimpering and get to work!”

I think I am beginning to understand what is going on now, I believe that I have been transported to the ‘Harry Potter’ universe. It seems that I didn't even get the benefit of being human, I think that I am now a slave to a tyrannical master.

My train of thought is broken with a burning sting on my back, courtesy to my master. With one last ‘get on with it’ from the demon behind me and the sound of boots walking away, I am once again left alone.

Getting up is difficult to say the least, with old and new wounds littering this body. With the knowledge that I am now in another universe, with a different body lingering in the back of my mind, I ‘get to work.’
