05 | Zack

"Raine." The blonde said.

"Zoe." Raine, stared down at by the towering lamppost, flicked her heavy strands of hair still damp from the rain in guilt.

"You..." Zoe started, and Raine tensed, readying herself for the torrent of scalding magma that Zoe would unload on her.

The blonde's dark eyes carefully searched her face. "Who was that?" Her words were cloaked, strangely, in a hesitance uncharacteristic of her impatient nature.

Raine blanked at her bland response, masking her shock at how merrily Zoe worded her sentence. Her edgy friend almost sounded patient! "Not Zack." Raine replied gingerly. Zack disappeared on her, or actually, his contact on her phone disappeared on her.

"Where's Zack?" The previous air of tentativeness, as though never before present, dissipated, a foggy mist in the morning chilliness. Zoe looked at her, and Raine could read her pooling lagoon of expectation splashed across her face. They weren't best friends for eight years for nothing.

"My phone died." She forgot to charge her phone. The blonde's stare prompted her. "And I lost his contact." She swiped it the wrong way so it disappeared on her with a poof. Yes, it disappeared on her, not the other way round.

"Did you leave the company name card?" Zoe asked.

Her damp curls shook with her head. "Didn't get one." Even if she did, it must have went to take an impromptu backpack trip on the garbage truck.

A beat of silence ensued.

"You... know him?"

Raine flowed with the abrupt switch of person of discussion, knowing she wouldn't be able to avoid it. "No."

Zoe's gaze intensified. "Where did you find him?"

"In a taxi." Her reply was nonchalant.

A long pause. "You got him a contract yet?"

Raine opened her mouth: "...I'm about to." Yes she definitely did not forget about the contract.

"Don't forget."

"I will." Raine promised, once again refreshing Zoe's outlook on her careless nature.

"My office's the one upstairs, open the glass doors this time." Zoe flicked Raine's forehead, sighing. "Change of clothes are in the usual locker if you need them."

Her lips lifted, a dimple peeking. "Thanks."
