3- Feasting

Nikola was able to get as close to 30 feet from his prey. with him being downwind, he was able to smell the deer. However, he was too close now, and sneaking forward anymore was becoming even more difficult.

He waited for the deer to stop looking around and rest its head on its body to sleep, Nikola knew this was the best time to move, and so he darted forwards from his hiding position, straight at the deer, at half the distance, the deer reared its sleepy head to check what was going on.

The deer was startled to see something heading straight for it, and scrambled to its feet, trying to turn around as fast as possible to start fleeing.

Nikola was dead on its heels; he was within 5 feet when the deer took off. Unfortunately for the deer, Nikola was already going at max speed, and it had only managed to run 10 feet when a searing pain shot straight through its body.

Nikola had lunged onto his prey, with the knife stabbing into its torso, with his body weight being heavier than the deer’s it didn’t take long for him to wrestle it to the ground, where he sunk his teeth into its neck.

Nikola could taste the metallic enriched blood trickle down his throat. Nikola was in a state of ecstasy, eating and swallowing chunk after chunk of raw deer meat. His mouth hands and bare chest were smeared in blood.

However, he was cut short of his meal, by a disturbance. He retrieved his dagger and went into a defensive stance as he backed himself towards a tree, he could tell what direction the intruders were coming from.

A few moments later, Nikola could see two sets of eyes appearing from the foliage, as two young-looking wolves emerged. They came out, one sniffing the air, towards the corpse, and the other baring its fangs at Nikola, giving him a low threatening growl.

Nikola returned the gesture, showing a feral looking jawline, not seen amongst humans, his canines were more pronounced, and his front teeth looked like they were able to tear through flesh with ease.

The two wolves started inching closer to Nikola while trying to circle him, however, he kept moving backwards to keep the wolves in his frontal peripheral vision.

The wolf on the left lunged at Nikola, who ducked and rolled towards the other wolf, slashing his blade at the foe, moving right past it as he drew blood. The two parties stabilised themselves, now on opposite sides to where they started. The one wolf had a cut down the side of his snout and a nasty gash on his front left leg.

Nikola then felt wet down his cheek and shoulder, when he checked he had been cut twice, which led him to confusion, he had moved completely out of the way of the first wolf’s attack, and the second wolf didn’t have a chance to attack, as it was busy defending itself.

The two wolves started pressing on Nikola again, only the injured one was being wearier. Nikola slashed the air in front of the wolf to try and intimidate it. This, however, only caused it to pause a split second, before carrying on its approach.

The uninjured wolf launched again, Nikola was able to dodge it again, and ran to the side of the injured wolf, narrowly missing its snapping jaw and tackling it to the ground, grappling it around its neck, Nikola was now on top of the injured wolf as it was forced on its back.

The other wolf, noticing its companion, quickly rushed at Nikola, he was struggling to pin down the injured wolf, with his body sitting on top of it, and his hand holding its neck in place, as he attempted to fend off with his blade in the other hand.

He kept feeling slash after slash over his skin as the two wolves tried to wrestle with him, but again, most of the slashes were in places the wolves didn’t hit or couldn’t reach. The unpinned wolf was gnarling at his hand, causing it to bleed from the puncture marks.

He pulled his hand across his chest, drawing the wolf in, and then flung it backwards, sending it stumbling. With this moment of a breather, he quickly sunk his blade into the pinned wolf’s neck, his badly mangled hand stinging in pain from the pressure it had to deal with, to get through the thick fur.

The wolf yelped in pain, as blood gushed out of its throat. Nikola quickly rolled away as it went through its death throes, he quickly repositioned himself into a defensive mode, to guard against the remaining wolf, who had quickly recovered from being tossed away.

Seeing its companion struggle as life started to fade from it, the remaining wolf recklessly charged at Nikola. This time, it was disregarding its own safety, Nikola could sense a feeling of anger from the wolf, as it attacked with reckless abandonment.

With his poorly mangled hand, Nikola had to switch the blade to his non-dominant left hand. He kept feeling slash after slash along his body, even though he was parring almost all of the wolf’s attacks.

The wolf’s front paws and gums were becoming bloody from parrying with a metal blade, however, it kept up its reckless assault, causing Nikola to be under immense pressure.

Nikola was constantly being pushed back by the wolf, and he soon found himself on a dusty patch of dirt. He kicked the dirt at the wolf’s face, however, the dirt quickly parted around the wolf, missing his eyes and nose, and only dirtying a little of its fur.

The wolf lunged on top of Nikola, he was now forced to the ground, keeping the wolf’s jaw at bay with the blade in his left hand.

The wolf was constantly pushing down onto Nikola, who was struggling to crawl his way out with his injured right hand. As he was frantically crawling, his right hand knocked into something, which turned out to be a stick when Nikola looked.

He quickly grabbed it and swung at the wolf’s head, knocking it away, however with the loss of support from his right hand, he ended up tumbling backwards, into a reverse gambol.

As he recovered, the other wolf recovered too, and reached his feet first, allowing it to launch at Nikola as he was still kneeling. Instead of continuing to try and stand, Nikola swung the stick again at the wolf, smacking the wolf’s head into the dirt, as well as snapping the stick.

However, this was enough, Nikola slammed his right hand onto the wolf’s snout, keeping it pinned, and brought his blade to reach around, and stab right into its neck, slicing through its windpipe.

Nikola steadily rose to his feet, and backed off from the wolf, he slumped down onto a tree trunk and just rested there to catch his breath back, as the wolf’s life was fading.

As he was recovering, and his adrenaline calmed down, something got a hold of his senses, he was drawn to the wolves’ carcases, they smelled great, really great, a lot better than the deer.

Nikola rose to his knees and crawled forwards, saliva starting to secret from his mouth. He reached the corpse, where the blood was gushing from the neck and sank teeth into it. he ravenously ripped into the meat, eating chunk after chunk.

Unfortunately, Nikola didn’t have a reflective surface here, otherwise, he would have seen his eyes and veins light up in a cyan glow.

He suddenly stuck his hand into the wolf on instinct and withdrew a small crystal embedded in the wolf. He looked at it in amazement, for a while before swallowing it. the wolf quickly lost its flavour, which was causing it to be more enticing than a deer, and moved on to the next wolf, repeating the process.

Once he was done, his mind started to clear again, bringing out a more rational thought process.

“Shit, I did it again.” He exclaimed, he was thinking over this problem, he hadn’t noticed the other people around him acting like this, and so was confused as to what was happening to him.

“Damn it, I cant return like this,” he stood there in silence trying to listen out, he quickly picked up the sound of running water in the distance and ran over there.

Just as he reached the bank to the stream, his body suddenly stopped him, his body started burning in pain, forcing him to his knees, he could feel the heat coming from his stomach, and noticed a cyan glow all over his body, where his veins should be.

He looked down at the stream to notice his reflection lighting up the water, showing him a glowing pattern across his face and his eyes lit up. “What is happening to me? AAAHHHHHH!” he screamed out from the heat welling up from his body.

Due to fatigue from the pain, his body gave way and he ended up falling into the stream.
