Chapter 5: Sorry brother

Albus D'Auremont stormed home, intending to show the footage to the family, wanting them to see Rivers Vivienne for what she truly was.

But halfway there, he regained his composure and realized that this wasn’t the right move.

First, within the D'Auremont family, this was a personal embarrassment. The fewer people who knew about it, the better.

Second, their family wasn’t exactly harmonious. His parents and uncles were constantly trying to outdo each other, fighting for power. If this incident got to his second uncle’s ears, it would be twisted and used against them, creating even more turmoil.

Third, his relationship with Marc was complicated. In front of others, they were the closest brothers, but behind the scenes, both had their own thoughts. He wasn’t sure how Marc would react if this came to light, and revealing the truth would only make things awkward for everyone.

And most importantly, he couldn’t take the humiliation. Being drugged and manipulated by Rivers Vivienne, only to have her plot behind his back—this was beyond foolish. It made him furious just thinking about it.

With these thoughts in mind, Albus turned his car around and headed toward the Forster household.

Arden Forster could immediately tell what had happened, but seeing Albus’s expression, she was sure the spiritual mark was still working. He hadn’t been fooled by Rivers Vivienne’s scheming.

Albus remained silent for a moment, feeling aggrieved as he looked at Arden, who was calmly reading a book, indifferent to his troubles.

"Master, I’ve made a fatal mistake."

Arden remained unfazed, her expression as tranquil as ever.

"It’s over now. There’s no need to dwell on it." She paused for a moment, then added,

"And don’t worry. You’re not the only one."

Albus looked startled. "Master, you knew?"

How could she already know what had happened to him? He hadn’t even had a chance to tell her, as if she could see everything!

Of course, she had said before that she could read people’s auras, and she’d mentioned seeing a green cloud above Marc’s head. Now, it seemed her predictions had come true. And the person who had been manipulated? It was him.

Albus suddenly realized that his master wasn’t just a martial arts expert; she seemed to have supernatural powers, able to see the past and future. It was no wonder she had been so calm all along.

"Master, what should I do now?" Albus asked, genuinely seeking advice, thinking he had discovered something truly remarkable about Arden.

"If I were you," Arden began, her tone still calm,

"I would go to the D'Auremont family’s patriarch and tell him. Don’t let anyone else get a chance to retaliate."

In the original storyline, Albus was easily swayed by Rivers Vivienne’s cute, innocent demeanor. He felt guilty, thinking he had forced himself on her while drugged, and so he never questioned her. The two of them kept the secret between them.

Later on, Marc became furious with Albus for betraying him and seducing his wife. The situation spiraled out of control, and in the end, everyone knew that Rivers Vivienne had used them all.

By coming clean to the patriarch, Arden suggested, Albus could minimize the damage. The D'Auremont patriarch had seen worse, and telling him early would prevent things from getting worse.

"Okay, I’ll follow your advice, Master!" Albus agreed without hesitation.

He had witnessed Arden’s tactics before and trusted her completely.

He immediately returned to the D'Auremont family and went to see the patriarch in his office.

As expected, when the patriarch learned of the situation, he kept it under wraps immediately, handling it quietly.

Rivers Vivienne, on the other hand, was feeling a bit overconfident, having just used the system’s powers to manipulate things to her advantage. She wasn’t as worried about Albus revealing the truth, though she did feel a little uneasy.

"Where have you been? I haven’t been able to reach you all morning. Is something wrong?" Marc D'Auremont confronted Rivers Vivienne as soon as she stepped into the house.

Seeing the genuine concern in his eyes, Rivers Vivienne felt a pang of guilt.

But quickly, she rationalized it. After all, he had already crossed a line with her, and she was just getting back at him a little earlier.

Stolen from its rightful author, this tale is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Besides, the fact that he hadn’t noticed her absence made it clear that his care had its limits. She wasn’t about to make a big deal out of it.

"Nothing, just had some errands to run," she answered nonchalantly.

Marc D'Auremont, sensing something was off, continued, "It’s good if there’s nothing wrong, but if there is, I’ll handle it. After all, you’re pregnant."

When Marc’s gaze fell on her belly, he froze in shock, staring in disbelief. "Where’s the baby?" he asked, his voice full of confusion.

Rivers Vivienne had been six months pregnant, and her belly had been noticeably larger just yesterday. He had even spoken to the baby, feeling it kick.

But now, her belly was flat, and the baby was gone. This sudden change left Marc in a state of shock.

Rivers Vivienne, remaining calm, answered flatly, "I had an abortion. I feel like we’re not compatible. Let’s get a divorce."

"What?"

Marc’s second aunt, overhearing the conversation, rushed downstairs and came to Rivers Vivienne. Seeing that the baby was gone, she almost fainted from shock.

"What’s going on? Why would you terminate the pregnancy? It’s been six months! This is the firstborn of the D'Auremont family!" she shouted, her voice filled with frustration and confusion. No one had expected Rivers Vivienne to secretly have an abortion.

Rivers Vivienne gave her a cold look. This had been the same with her in her past life—her mother-in-law cared only for the heir, not her.

She was glad she had woken up in time; if she had really given birth, she would have been thrown out of the family.

Marc D'Auremont stood frozen for a moment, clearly bewildered.

Then, his anger flared up. "Why did you do it? Whatever the reason, shouldn’t we have talked about it? The child wasn’t just yours; I’m the father too!"

Rivers Vivienne stepped back to avoid being cornered.

Frowning, she responded, "It’s not something worth discussing. Whether I keep the child or not is my choice. I don’t want to live with you. Let’s get a divorce."

"I don’t agree!" Marc shouted, his tone firm.

He was still in love with her and didn’t want to let go, especially when he thought they had a perfect relationship, expecting a child. Her sudden demand for a divorce didn’t make sense to him.

----------------------------------------

Marc D'Auremont’s second aunt, still reeling from the shock of losing her grandson, heard Rivers Vivienne’s words and couldn't tolerate anyone disrespecting her son. With a sharp tone, she said, “Divorce him, quickly. You know what needs to be done. Don’t let my son delay marrying someone more suitable!”

Originally, she had reluctantly allowed Rivers Vivienne into the family because of her pregnancy, but now she was acting so pretentious.

Marc D'Auremont didn’t say anything, instead staring intently at Rivers Vivienne, trying to read the pain on her face.

As expected, Rivers Vivienne lowered her head. Her expression showed some determination, and her eyes avoided Marc’s.

Her hands involuntarily clenched tightly, and the veins on her fingertips were visible, a clear sign of her tension and dishonesty.

Marc D'Auremont could tell immediately that she wasn’t telling the truth.

His anger subsided, and he spoke gently, "I won’t divorce you. Even if the sky falls, I will hold it up for you..."

Rivers Vivienne’s face shifted slightly, but she still tried to act cold. This only made Marc more sure of his suspicion.

Rivers Vivienne put on a show of indifference, but inside, she couldn't help but smirk. She had played her part well, and now her marriage would never end in divorce.

In truth, she did want a quick divorce, but the system had told her that only a husband could "wear the green hat." If she divorced and married someone else, it wouldn’t count as part of her mission. So, for now, she had to remain married.

She also couldn't openly talk about the abortion; Marc couldn’t know the truth. So, she had to put on this act, making him believe it was an unavoidable decision to terminate the pregnancy.

Based on Albus’s reaction earlier, she couldn’t be sure whether he would expose what happened last night, so she was preparing herself. If it came out later, she could always claim that she wanted a divorce, but Marc didn’t agree.

Before leaving, she was confident that her request for a divorce would not be successful. After all, the patriarch would never allow it. Even in her past life, despite causing so much trouble, they were still not allowed to divorce.

This time, things were calmer, and the patriarch would certainly prevent them from splitting.

Now, looking at Marc, she felt the chances of staying married were high.

The only remaining variable was Albus.

As long as Albus didn’t report what happened, her marriage would likely remain intact.

If she couldn’t divorce, she could safely continue gathering "green hats." Who would be her next target? Elias von Adlerburg? Justus von Adlerburg? Or maybe Caelus D'Auremont, or even drag all the D'Auremont brothers into it? The thought still made her feel a bit embarrassed, but she had no other choice. She needed the beauty products, and if that meant using these men, so be it.

Before she could finalize her plan, the voice of the D'Auremont patriarch echoed from upstairs, "Divorce, it must happen!"

Downstairs, the three of them looked up in surprise as they heard the patriarch’s commanding voice.

In that moment, Rivers Vivienne felt exposed under his gaze, as if everything she had been thinking was being seen through.

She quickly lowered her head, unable to meet his eyes.

Marc D'Auremont, still confused, asked, "Grandfather?"

Marc had once wanted to marry Rivers Vivienne, but his grandfather had disagreed. He had gone behind the family’s back and broken off the engagement with the Lâm family, which disappointed his grandfather deeply. The patriarch had warned him that if he wanted Rivers Vivienne, he had to ensure their marriage was peaceful and avoid any trouble with a divorce.

But now, it was the patriarch himself calling for the divorce.

Marc couldn’t tell if his grandfather was just talking or if he truly meant it.

The patriarch gave him a cold glance and said sternly, "Come with me to the study."

Marc glanced at Rivers Vivienne, who still wouldn’t look up, her mind clearly preoccupied.

He turned to his mother, who anxiously whispered to him, "Don’t argue with your grandfather. If he says divorce, then divorce. Let’s get it over with. I’d rather have you marry someone suitable, not this little actress."

Marc didn’t respond. He only said, "I’ll handle it," and followed his grandfather upstairs.

The patriarch’s study was on the second floor, and Marc had rarely been there. He only went in when important matters needed to be discussed, so as they reached the door, he couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous.

He pushed the door open and saw the patriarch standing by the window with his back to him. To his surprise, there was someone else in the room.

"Hello, brother!" Albus greeted with a smile, showing his white teeth.

"Sorry, brother, I gave you the "green hat" last night."
