Chapter 3

Damai slowly regained consciousness, wondering what had happened, since the last thing he remembered was being suddenly drained of all energy and hearing his father’s voice before he collapsed. He sat up and looked around, he couldn't tell what it was but he felt different than usual, he felt like he was much calmer than he should have been.

Kuat then walked into the room and was relieved to see his son awake and looking much better than before, he sat down next to his son handing him some breakfast at the same time, which Damai happily took off of him. Kuat then told Damai what they would be doing today “son after you’re done eating we shall go to the town shrine” hearing this Damai looked puzzled as he questioned his father with his eyes since his mouth was full “the mark on your hand son, it is the mark of one of the god’s, specifically the god of wisdom” Kuat then stood up walked to the door and continued to speak “were going to the shrine to find out what the mark is there for and we also have other things to do afterwards but we’ll leave that for later, meet me downstairs when you’re done” and with that Kuat left the room, Damai was left with the knowledge that he had the god of wisdoms mark on his right hand and for a few seconds he silently stared at the eye shaped symbol on his hand.

A couple minutes later, both Kuat and Damai were leaving the house. As they walked through the village most of the adults noticed Kuat’s troubled expression and then noticed the mark on Damai’s hand, most of the villagers were worrying about what would happen since everybody in the village were close friends and they all knew the joy the boy brought to Kuat.

When the two of them reached the shrine Kuat walked over to the alter and prayed to the god of wisdom “oh great god of wisdom, I know it is ignorant of me, but I would like to know your reasoning behind the mark you have bestowed upon my son, no matter how hard I rack my brain I cannot fathom why you would take an interest in him” and after Kuat had finished the air around him seemed to vibrate, it was enough to grab ones attention but not enough to seem threatening. A voice was then heard and although you could tell how powerful the being was just through the voice alone, once again it did not seem threatening “worry not Kuat the child is in no danger, the mark is simply a minor blessing of mine he inherited and as of now I can’t tell you where he got it from yet” Kuat visibly relaxed after hearing this and replied in a gentle tone “thank you for answering this fools question oh great god” and the voice spoke again “Kuat you are a man I find extremely worthy, you took in a lone child and raised it as your own when it was clearly not even a member of your race and you even questioned a god’s motive out of love for your son, you and your village shall be blessed, however if you do not mind I would like to speak to Damai privately” Kuat smiled and replied “ yes of course, I have things to set up…… and thank you great one” and with that Kuat left a shocked Damai while smiling at him, telling him to calm down.

Damai was visibly shaken when his father had left so the voice started to try and calm the boy “child calm down, I won’t eat you, I’m just going to tell you about the mark on your hand, so listen carefully” Damai was still a little shaky but still managed to listen intently to the voice “Now child do not worry about the mark, it will not affect you much, the most it will do is give you a general idea of an enemy’s weakness but without training your mind it would be useless, you wouldn’t know what it is trying to point out and it is very vague” Damai was calmer knowing that his body would not be affected much and that he could live his life as normal, but the voice carried on “child the bigger thing is that you managed to activate the blessing by yourself, usually the blessing would be dormant until a god or a high ranking member of a church gave it power and although people activating by themselves it is not unheard of it is incredibly rare, since it takes a lot of training and energy to do so” Damai just listened in wonder as he was told about the mark “us gods decided that those who activated the mark had potential, so we decided that people like you would be given a gift of your own choosing, so what would you like” Damai was shocked at the unexpected development stuttered “wh… what??” the voice seemed to chuckle at the boy’s reaction and spoke “all you have to do is ask for something and I will see if I can get it for you” this did nothing to lessen Damai’s shock but he managed to reply “re…. really, um then could I ask for a tail, like the rest of my people have…… please” he said with uncertainty and this time is was the voices turn to be shocked, but it soon got over it “ahahaha ahahaha of all the things in the world you could ask for, you ask for a tail ahahahaha oh classic, boy you are interesting and hear is your tail, now I have other engagements so I shall be on my way” Damai shouted back “ ahh thank you and goodbye” then the presence that had shaken Damai up disappeared and Damai was left with a strange sensation close to his backside

A woman was sitting by a window looking out with sad eyes as if searching for something, she was considered extremely beautiful by all and when people saw her upset they tried their best to cheer her up but for a long time now the woman has had a sad look on her face. As the woman stared a voice appeared beside her “Jiwa ahahaha, I swear your son is extremely interesting, he passed the trial of the inherited blessing just like you, ahahahaha and then when I asked him what he wanted as a gift he asked for ahahahahah…..for a…*snicker*…. For monkey tail like the villagers he was living with” hearing this the sad woman suddenly brightened up and had a confliction of emotions as she wondered why her son would want a monkey’s tail, but was also happy that she had a means of identifying her son. Jiwa knew that Estrawr had said this to her on purpose to cheer her up and it worked extremely well, she now knew what to look for so she quietly thanked the god of wisdom and left to go and see the people who were worried about her.

Damai left the shrine after a quick and sharp pain appeared and his new tail had grown out, he was struggling to walk for two reasons, one was that his balance was now off with the addition of a tail and the second reason was that the control ring he was wearing affected his newfound tail, as well as the gravity rings, which all helped to keep his currently weak new tail restrained, Damai was going to ask his father if he could take of the rings and slowly get his tail used to each one until he could walk normally again.

As he walked through the village he noticed a large number of shocked gasps and stares, the villagers were surprised that Damai had suddenly grown a tail, they wanted to ask him about it but could see he was finding it difficult to move, so they let him be. Damai was trying to find his father but had no idea where he had gone, so he decided to ask Api who told him that his father was waiting for him in the training hall. When he walked in Kuat’s face showed obvious shock and his jaw dropped as he saw his son struggle in with a tail firmly on the ground that previously had not existed, he could only nervously laugh as he guessed what had happened (the god giving him the tail, not the blessing thing) Damai only replied with his own nervous laugh and then asked his father if he could take of the gravity rings so he could train his new tail and Kuat gave him permission after recollecting himself.

After Damai had taken of all but the 10% gravity ring he could finally move his new tail how he wanted, although not very well considering he never had one before, but he was nonetheless satisfied at the result and silently vowed he would train it to be strong. Noticing his son was done experimenting with his tail Kuat moved on to what he had originally planned for his son “Damai, look around you, every member of the village has to learn hand to hand combat and also must learn how to use at least one weapon of their choice, walk around the room and find one you wish to learn” Damai did as his father said and inspected each weapon testing them out, he felt like he could use most of them given time, but one out of them all seemed to stick in his mind, it felt heavy enough to do damage but not so heavy he couldn’t move it properly, the weapon also fit in his hands well and provided a longer range, the weapon he chose was the Bo staff and satisfied with his choice, he took the staff back to his father.

Kuat looked at the weapon his son chose and was secretly delighted that his son had chosen the same weapon he did, Kuat then gave Damai basic instructions on how to use the staff but the rest Damai would have to learn by himself, Kuat also taught his son that KI could be transferred into his weapon. Damai spent the next four years training his tail, Bo staff techniques and sparred with his father a lot. When he turned 16 it was time for his first hunt to commence.
