Chapter 6: Misunderstanding

Rustle, rustle...

At night, a sudden spring rain arrived, enveloping the night of Zhongjing City in a delicate mist of rain. This thousand-year-old ancient capital appeared even more mysterious and dreamlike.

On the 37th floor, the top floor of the Rihao Hotel, Yang Yi stood quietly by the floor-to-ceiling window, gazing at the rain.

It wasn't until the cigarette in his hand burned out that he came back to his senses.

He glanced down and extinguished the cigarette butt in the ashtray. Yang Yi took out his phone and dialed a number. "How is it?"

A voice came from the other end: "The investigation is ongoing. Some clues have been deliberately erased. I've already mobilized more people."

"Good."

After hanging up, Yang Yi turned around and sat on the sofa, closing his eyes to rest.

The room was dark, with no lights on, making it impossible to see anything.

Suddenly, there was a disturbance in the air, and a voice emerged from the darkness: "Report from Base Nine just arrived three minutes ago. The match has not been successful yet."

Boom!

The first spring thunder rumbled!

In the flash of lightning, Yang Yi’s cold eyes were reflected in the window. He was tormented inside.

From the joy of discovering he had a daughter to the devastating news that she was terminally ill, all within just a few hours, it felt as if he had experienced both heaven and hell.

"Liver matches are supposed to be easy, aren’t they? Why is this happening?" Yang Yi’s eyes glinted with a cold light.

"The princess has a unique constitution, resulting in a rejection reaction," the figure in the shadows replied.

Before Yang Yi could ask more, another figure emerged from the darkness, the one known as Yingci, wearing a black crow mask.

In a deep voice, Yingci said, "Just received news... someone has entered the villa at Bolai A7."

Yang Yi’s eyes narrowed. He extended his hand, and Yingci immediately handed him a communicator.

Yang Yi spoke sternly, "Report."

A voice came through the communicator: "Ying San, executing the mission to protect the female owner of Bolai Villa A7. Three minutes ago, an Asian male, about 170 cm tall, arrived in a Volvo 795 and has since entered the villa."

Yang Yi took a deep breath. Someone coming at this hour, and it was a man...

He didn’t want to think too much, but...

Five minutes, ten minutes, twenty minutes... an hour passed.

Yang Yi casually tossed the communicator back to Yingci and said indifferently, "Withdraw the protection over there."

Yingci, whose face was obscured by darkness, nodded and retreated, disappearing into the shadows.

Meanwhile, inside the A7 villa, Shen Xue was asleep on the sofa, still clutching a kitchen knife in her hand.

In the kitchen, a young man about 170 cm tall had his mouth sealed with tape and was tied up like a mummy, struggling like a worm but unable to break free.

His eyes were filled with resentment and hatred before he finally closed them, ceasing his struggle.

Time slowly passed in the gentle rain, and thunder rumbled throughout the night.

The next day, after the rain had cleared, the air in Zhongjing City was fresh.

However, the arriving Yingci noticed that the God King had dark circles under his eyes!

Sensing Yingci's presence, Yang Yi opened his bloodshot eyes. "Speak."

Yingci reported, "News just came in from Base Nine. They've found a matching liver!"

Yang Yi sprang to his feet. The good news had come just in time, dispelling the gloom of the previous night.

But in the next moment, he heard Yingci say, "It’s from the madam."

Yang Yi frowned, but without hesitation, he picked up the phone and dialed Shen Xue's number.

The call connected, and Shen Xue’s voice was as cold as ever. "Who is this?"

"It’s me. We need to talk," Yang Yi said.

"Fine, I’ll come find you," Shen Xue agreed without hesitation.

"The café downstairs at the Rihao Hotel," Yang Yi provided the location.

Shen Xue promptly hung up.

Yang Yi stared at the phone in a daze for three seconds, then stood up and left.

Twenty minutes later, Yang Yi saw Shen Xue, and what made him frown was that she had arrived in a Volvo.

Shen Xue looked very haggard. Her left hand was haphazardly wrapped in gauze, and her hair was unkempt.

"Sit down. I want to tell you about Tiantian..."

Bang!

Before Yang Yi could finish, Shen Xue suddenly slammed her fist on the table. Her eyes were bloodshot as she looked at Yang Yi, her voice hoarse as she said, "Tiantian is my life! Remember that! If you dare treat Tiantian badly, I won’t let you off!

"Yang Yi, I don’t care about what you owe me because it was my fault back then. I loved you, so nothing I did is worthy of sympathy! I don’t need anyone's pity! But if..."

At this point, Shen Xue’s voice trembled, but she took a deep breath and continued in a calmer tone, "I’m leaving Tiantian to you. Take good care of her. Once she’s cured, leave Zhongjing immediately!"

With that, she placed a card in front of Yang Yi and said in a low voice, "Five million. Take good care of her."

Seeing that Shen Xue was about to leave, Yang Yi immediately frowned. With a swift motion, he grabbed Shen Xue’s wrist. "What do you mean? Are you abandoning Tiantian? You’re her mother!"

"It’s none of your business. Take the money and cure Tiantian," Shen Xue said coldly, trying to shake off Yang Yi’s hand.

Yang Yi didn’t dare to use force, but it wasn’t something Shen Xue could easily break free from either. The next moment, his gaze locked onto a young man entering the café, whose cold eyes were fixed on Yang Yi.

Years of blood and fire had made it easy for Yang Yi to see that this man had murderous intent toward him.

When Shen Xue saw the man, she reacted as if she had been pricked. She forcefully pushed Yang Yi away, pulled her hand free, and without a word, walked straight toward the man.

The young man glanced deeply at Yang Yi before leaving with Shen Xue.

Yang Yi frowned. Shen Xue’s words just now had made it clear—she was abandoning Tiantian!

Looking down at the bank card lying quietly on the table, Yang Yi’s eyes turned icy cold. "In that case, don’t blame me!"

He had originally wanted to have a proper conversation with Shen Xue. After all, she was Tiantian’s mother, and based on her behavior yesterday, it was clear that Shen Xue loved Tiantian. Donating part of her liver should not have been a problem.

But now, it seemed that things were completely different from what he had imagined.

Shen Xue was actually going to abandon Tiantian!

Although "abandon" might not be the right word, given that Shen Xue had given Yang Yi five million.

But to Yang Yi, this was abandonment!

Even though he knew that something must have happened, it didn’t matter.

Abandonment is abandonment!

No matter the reason, he would not accept it.

Waving his hand for Yingci to follow the Volvo, Yang Yi sat back down and took a sip of his now-cold coffee.

It was bitter, just like his current mood.

Last night, when he learned that a man had gone to see Shen Xue, although it upset him, he had no right to be angry.

After all, he had been gone for six years.

But today, Shen Xue’s cold-heartedness was unforgivable.

His daughter’s mother should not be so heartless!

...

Screech!

The Volvo stopped at the hospital entrance. Shen Xue, with a cold expression, walked into the hospital. Behind her, the young man’s eyes roved greedily over her body as he followed her inside.

But after just a few steps, Shen Xue suddenly turned around, her eyes icy as she said, "Zhou Yun, I can pretend last night’s intrusion into my house didn’t happen. Leave now! Otherwise, don’t blame me for being rude!"

Zhou Yun narrowed his eyes and said blandly, "Don’t forget who gave you the money. One call from me, and that card will be frozen. Believe it or not?"

"You... shameless!" Shen Xue gritted her teeth, her voice low with anger, her hands trembling with rage.
