Chapter 5: The Foreshadowing of A Gimmick

Back at Luno's treehouse lab, Prof. Luno emerged from his private study carrying three Kalserian Pokedexes(a palm-sized red hexagonal-shaped disc with three lines [an orange, a green, and a purple one] crossing at the centre and dividing it into six triangles) in one hand while having an orange crystal, a green crystal, and purple crystal in his other hand. He went to close his study's door but was beaten to it by his Steenee closing it for him.

"Oh, appreciated, Steenee," Luno said as he head patted Steenee with the back of his hand. Steenee happily said her name before her expression soured at seeing Nova and Luna poorly organising stacks of research paper. She sternly hurried over to minimize the duo's impact, leaving Luno to amusedly chuckle as he walked over to Hoivea, Lux, and Olyzian. After handing over the Pokédexes, the trainer trio inspected their Pokédexes and saw the six icons on each of the triangles: in order, an icon of six Pokéballs, a handbag icon, a classic pokedex icon, a folded map icon, a book and quill icon, and a gear-shaped rotom icon.

"Well, I thought this model of pokedex wasn't supposed to come out for a couple more years...," Lux remarked apathetically while Olyzian's eyes dazzled as she poked the Pokéball button making a blue screen pop out from behind the triangle opposite the one with the Pokéballs button. The trio stood huddled around Olyzian's pokedex, staring at the pop-out screen which displayed a slot with Chivaldawn and her basic stats(Gender, Stamina, Energy, Condition), and five empty slots. Olyzian tapped on Chivaldawn's icon making her file fill up the screen and displaying her stats in more detail along with her Moves: Whiplash(Normal-Type) and Hone Guard(Fighting-Type).

"Pretty nifty right? Those stats are approximations so don't sweat over number crunching or what do gamers say... min-maxing was it?" Luno remarked, causing Hoivea to puff up her cheeks in embarrassment.

"Father, nobody uses that term anymore," Hoivea whined as she threw her fists up and down.

"But didn't you always complain your friends of yours were-". Hoviea threw her hands over Luno's face as her red-stricken face turned even brighter. Lux and Olyzian glanced at each other puzzledly while Chivaldawn and Lilygrath did the same.

"Stop embaressing me!" Hoivea complained brattily whilst Luno was silently grinning to himself.

"Alright alright, I'll stop.". Hoivea begrudgingly removed her hands from Luno's face before Luno outreached his hand and presented the crystals, allowing the trio to get a better look at them: the orange crystal contained a pale orange sun-shaped metal, the green crystal contained a pale green heart-shaped metal, and the purple crystal contained a pale purple crescent moon-shaped metal.

"Woah! Convergence crystals," Hoivea and Olyzian announced in unison while Lux scratched his head. With Luxg dragged into it, the trio swung around and huddled away from Luno as they loudly murmured among themselves, leaving Luno to tilt his head.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

"I can't believe we're getting them before we've even started our journey," Olyzian whispered.

"I know right, normally you'd have to find one of just by a precut and crafted convergence gear," Hoivea whispered back.

"Care to enlighten me about this crystal stuff?" Lux asked. The two girls slowly rotated their heads toward Lux with blank expressions on their faces. The two looked at each other before sighing disapointedly, making Lux raise an eyebrow.

"I guess it makes sense he wouldn't know would he," Hoivea remarked super quietly.

"But it is kind of strange he doesn't know about the crystals but does know about the Hex-Model Pokedex, right?" Olyzian replied with an equally hushed voice. Lux stared at the whispering duo in silence.

"Are you really having a huddle inside a huddle?" Lux asked agitatedly. The two girls flinched at realising the ironic redundancy of their actions.

"We'll tell you about the crystals later, Lux," the duo murmured, leaving Lux to sigh as the three broke up the huddle and returned their attention to Luno.

"You know you don't need to decide who gets which, given you're in a team, right?" Luno remarked as he handed the uncut convergence crystals to Hoivea.

"We're allowed to swap them?" Olyzian asked.

"Well, it's more of your able to use the convergence energy stored in the crystals on your teammates' Pokemon but I suppose your idea is also an option," Luno stated as he rubbed his chin, "So before you head, do you have any other questions?". The trio looked at each other before shrugging. Luno smirked before his face slightly winced as Vennola lightly bit his head in her sleep.

"Well, if you have any in the future then you can have Hoivea call me. And before I forget, could you take a package to Prof. Aggretha for me?" Luno requested as Indeedee waddled over with wobbly limbs while struggling to carry the package to the group. Indeedee placed the large package next to Hoivea before she marched over to Luno and demanded a head-pat using arm gestures.

"So... how are we supposed to transport this?" Hoivea asked.

"I believe our Pokédexes can store stuff if you tap objects while holding the item bag button," Lux suggested.

"Oh," Hoivea uttered before locating the item bag button. While holding down the button, Hoivea tapped her Pokédex against the convergence crystals before red energy encased them and absorbed them into the Pokédex. Hoivea repeated the same action on the package and stored it in her Pokédex. Hoivea proceeded to tap the item bag button and a yellow screen popped out of her Pokédex: displaying Pokeball x 5, Convergence Crystal(Nova), Convergence Crystal(Gaia), Convergence Crystal(Luna), and Package for Prof. Jill Aggretha.

"It's just like a Pokéball," Olyzian uttered with intrigue. The trio, but mostly Lux and Olyzian, thanked Luno for his time before they hopped onto the pulley elevator and were lowered to the ground by K.Gallade.
