CH22: Meeting with Maris

CH22: Meeting with Maris

The guard folded his arms as he leaned against the doorway, and spoke. “As you’re about to die, do you have any last wishes?”

Kay’s mind was racing, but he forced himself to stay calm. “I just want you to answer one question,” he said, his voice steady despite the fear clawing at his chest. “How long has Eliot been surveying me?”

The guard threw his head back and laughed loudly. “HAHAHA! Do you really think Eliot cares enough about you to waste his time watching you? Don’t flatter yourself, kid. You’re nothing to him. If he’s watching anyone, it’s Maris.”

He added with a wicked grin, “I don’t even work for Eliot. He just gave me a huge sum of money to deal with you if you came here. My orders were simple; kill you if you tried to contact Maris and destroy any letter you might send him. You should be thankful, though. At least I’m granting your final wish by answering your question.”

The guard straightened up, his face darkening. “Now, enough talk. Goodbye! Graveler, use Rollout!”

Graveler growled and began spinning rapidly in place, building momentum before launching itself toward Kay.

Kay’s instincts took over, and he leaped to the side just in time, clutching Eevee tightly to his chest.

The rocky Pokemon missed its mark and crashed into the wall with a loud thud, sending debris flying.

Graveler began spinning once more, preparing for another attack. Kay was running out of options.

His heart pounded as he was stuck on the edge of the room, desperately trying to think of a way to escape.

Just as Graveler was about to launch its next attack, the door of the room exploded inward.

The door slammed against the wall with a deafening crash, shards of wood scattering across the dusty floor.

A sleek, dark blue figure burst into the room. The creature stood tall, its sharp yellow eyes glowing with fierce intensity. Wrapped around its neck was a pink, tongue-like scarf fluttering slightly with every move. Its long limbs and agile stance gave it the appearance of a swift and deadly ninja. In its hand, it held a glowing water shuriken (Greninja).

The guard turned his head slowly, dread pooling in his stomach. He prayed he wouldn’t see what he feared. But as his eyes settled on the figure in the doorway, his face drained of color.

There stood Greninja with its dark aura. Behind the Pokemon stood a man who carried an aura of authority and power.

His striking blue hair was neatly combed, and his light blue beard was impeccably trimmed.

“Sir… Sir Maris!” the guard stammered, his voice trembling. “What… what are you doing here? This side of the castle hasn’t been used for years.”

Maris stepped forward, his piercing gaze locked on the guard. “Greninja, Water Shuriken.”

Greninja didn’t hesitate. It brought its hands together, forming a massive shuriken made entirely of swirling water between its palms. In an instant, it hurled the attack at Graveler.

The shuriken moved so fast that Kay barely registered its movement until it struck Graveler head-on.

Stolen story; please report.

The rock Pokemon was launched backward, crashing into the wall with a resounding thud and slumping to the ground, dead.

Maris’s sharp eyes turned back to the guard. “Greninja saw you sneaking this boy into this abandoned part of the castle. I’ve also been suspicious of you since I heard from the first guard that you started verifying all letters addressed to me without my knowledge.”

Maris reached into his coat and pulled out a Max Potion, tossing it to Kay. “Use this on your Pokemon,”

Kay caught the potion with shaking hands and quickly sprayed it on Eevee, who had just opened his eyes.

As the potion’s restorative energy enveloped Eevee, its breathing steadied, and it became in a better state.

“Greninja, Night Slash,”.

Greninja’s hand became enveloped in dark energy, forming a sharp, glowing blade. In a flash, it dashed toward the guard with such speed that the man couldn’t react in time.

The blade struck with precision, and the guard cried out in pain as Greninja cut his leg. He collapsed to the floor, clutching his limb, and trying to stop the flowing blood, his eyes wide with fear.

Maris stepped closer, his expression unyielding. “Now, you will answer my questions. Who sent you, and why are you trying to kill this boy?”

The guard's face turned pale as he clutched his bleeding leg, trembling before Maris. “Please, sir, just spare me! I’ll tell you everything!” he begged.

Maris crossed his arms, his expression cold and unreadable. “Speak,” he commanded.

The guard stammered, spilling every detail about his meeting with Eliot. He explained that Eliot had promised him a hefty sum of money, half paid upfront and the other half delivered after he killed Kay if the boy dared to approach Maris.

“Eliot instructed me to destroy any letter from the boy and take care of him if he came here in person,” the guard admitted, his voice shaking.

Maris narrowed his eyes. “Did Eliot contact you again after your initial meeting?”

“No, he didn’t,” the guard replied, desperately trying to stem the bleeding from his leg.

“Is that all?”.

“Yes, sir, that’s everything! Please, I’ve told you all I know. Let me leave!”

Maris’s gaze didn’t waver. “Greninja, finish him.”

“No, sir! Pleas...” As Greninja heard the command, it attacked the guard with a Night Slash without hesitation slicing off his head with precision. The guard’s cries ceased instantly as his body collapsed lifelessly to the ground.

Kay stood frozen, his heart pounding as he witnessed the brutal scene unfold before him.

He struggled to process what had just happened, but the only thing that was clear for him was that it was safe, until now.

Maris turned to Kay. “Are you alright? Can you stand?”

Kay nodded shakily, holding Eevee close. “Yeah… I’m okay. Just some bruises. Nothing serious.”

“Good,” Maris said. “Let’s move to another place and talk.”

Maris and Kay left the dusty old room in silence, the tension from the earlier events still lingering in the air.

After a few calm moments of walking through the castle’s corridors, they arrived at a room that looked like a small hospital.

The walls were lined with medical equipment, and the space had a clean, sterile smell.

“Heal your injuries first, and then we’ll continue,” Maris instructed.

Kay followed him inside and saw an old man in a white coat, his hair grey and his posture slightly hunched.

The man’s kind but tired eyes met Kay’s. Beside him stood a round, light-pink creature with short, stubby arms and a cheerful face. It carried an egg in a pouch on its belly and exuded a calming, nurturing aura (Chansey).

“Doctor, please heal this young man,” Maris said firmly.

The doctor nodded and, in a gentle voice, instructed the Pokemon. “Chansey, Heal Pulse.”

Chansey closed its eyes and held out its tiny arms, and a warm, soothing energy radiated from its body.

The soft, pink light washed over Kay, and he felt his bruises fade instantly. His body felt refreshed as if the pain and exhaustion had never been there.

“Thank you, Doctor,” Kay said, grateful for the quick relief.

Maris nodded to the doctor and turned to Kay. “Let’s go.”

Kay followed Maris once again. After walking down another long corridor, they stopped in front of a large wooden door.

Maris pushed it open, revealing a grand office. The room was spacious, with polished wooden floors, tall shelves filled with books, and a large desk in the center. Behind the desk was a wide window offering a view of the castle grounds.

“This is my office. Let’s talk inside,” Maris said, stepping aside to let Kay enter.

Kay walked in, and Maris closed the door behind them. “Take a seat,” Maris said, motioning to a chair in front of the desk.
