On the second evening, while exploring the plains of the dungeon, Kay stumbled upon something unusual; a strange cave entrance.
Its walls shimmered with an electric glow, faint crackles of electricity sparking along the metallic surface.
Kay stood at the entrance for a moment, studying the cave. “It’s not too far from the dungeon’s entrance, and the Pokemons outside haven’t been too powerful… Maybe it’s not so risky to go inside.” He discussed with Eevee, who nodded in agreement.
They stepped into the cave, the faint light from the glowing walls casting eerie shadows on their faces.
The air inside was heavy with a metallic scent, and every step they took echoed softly in the stillness.
Small sparks occasionally jumped between cracks in the walls, creating a brief flash of light.
After walking for a few minutes, Kay stopped looking at the Pokemon in front of him. Floating a few feet ahead of them was a small, spherical Pokemon.
Its metallic gray body gleamed dimly, and on either side, two horseshoe-shaped magnets pulsed faintly with energy.
It floated in place effortlessly, emitting a soft hum as if powered by some invisible force. Its single, round eye fixed itself on Kay and Eevee, cold and unblinking. (Magnemite)
Kay knew that his usual strategy against Mareep wouldn’t work here. Ground-type moves like Dig were effective against Electric and Steel Pokemons, but Magnemite could float, making Dig harder to land.
Kay then checked Magnemite's stats using his Pokedex:
Pokémon: Magnemite
Potential: Yellow
Stage: Steel
From the sharp hum it emitted and the way its eye locked onto Eevee with focused intensity, it was clear that this Magnemite was far from calm like the Mareep. It was aggressive and ready to kill at any moment.
Kay immediately realized two critical problems. First, he couldn’t rely on Dig this time. The cave's metallic, electrically charged ground would harm Eevee if he tried to burrow through it.
Second, Magnemite was aggressive not like Mareep so he couldn’t let Eevee go underground and leave himself exposed to Magnemite’s attacks.
“Eevee, use Quick Attack to approach and then Bite!” Kay commanded firmly.
Eevee dashed forward, his body blurring slightly from the speed. He leaped at Magnemite with his jaws open, preparing to sink his teeth into the metallic Pokemon.

Magnemite’s eye flickered briefly, and electric sparks began to gather around its body as it prepared an attack.
But Eevee was faster and his Bite landed first, causing Magnemite to jolt slightly from the impact. However, before Eevee could retreat, Magnemite unleashed a Thunder Wave.
A bright flash filled the cave, and Eevee froze mid-step, his body trembling slightly as he was paralyzed.
“No… this isn’t good, that would make the battle even harder for Eevee.”
Before Kay could think of a plan, Magnemite launched two successive Thunder Shock attacks.
Eevee endured both hits. And despite the pain, he managed to use Wish under the order of Kay.
Kay clenched his fists and took a deep breath. His mind was racing, but then a thought struck him. ‘Magnemite has a limited field of vision. With only one eye, it can’t track fast movement from multiple angles.’
“Eevee, use Quick Attack and run in circles around Magnemite! Don’t stop, just keep moving!”

Eevee struggled against the paralysis but obeyed. He dashed around Magnemite in quick, tight circles, his movements weren’t clear in the dim cave light.
As Kay suspected, Magnemite’s eye couldn’t keep up with Eevee’s speed. It spun slightly, trying to track the movement, but failed to focus on Eevee.
“Now, Eevee! Use Bite and keep running! Don’t stop after attacking! Keep circling and wait for another chance!”
Eevee jumped and used Bite on Magnemite again, and then immediately retreated back into his circular pattern.
Magnemite crackled with energy, trying to unleash another Thunder Shock, but it was too late as Eevee just after attacking retreated and began running one more time.
Kay’s strategy was working. Eevee continued the cycle; running, using Bite, and retreating.
Magnemite became weaker after receiving two Bite from Eevee, and its metallic body started to wobble in mid-air.
Finally, after one last Bite attack, Magnemite fell to the ground. Kay then collected the crystal, put it inside his bag, and told Eevee to use another Wish to heal its wounds.
Eevee wobbled slightly, still feeling the effects of paralysis, but he used Wish as Kay instructed.
Then Kay took out a Paralysis Heal from his bag and carefully sprayed it over Eevee.
Eevee then stretched its legs, shaking off the lingering stiffness from the paralysis. Kay was relieved that the paralysis hadn’t caused any accident during the fight.
“You did great, buddy. Let’s keep moving, but we’ll be careful from now on, okay?”.
For the next few hours, Kay and Eevee went deeper into the metallic cave. The air crackled with electricity. They encountered several more Magnemites, each as aggressive as the first one.
Kay followed the same strategy that had worked in the first battle: having Eevee run in circles, confuse the enemy, and then strike with Bite.
It wasn’t an easy method, and Eevee had to endure several Thunder Shocks along the way, and even was paralyzed one more time, but they managed to defeat seven Magnemites in total.
After the seventh battle, Kay paused to catch his breath. He looked at Eevee, who was panting heavily but still standing strong.
“We should stop here, Eevee. If we go any deeper, we might encounter a stronger Pokemon… maybe even a Bronze Stage Magnemite. That’s too risky for us right now. Let’s head back.”
“Eevwee...” Eevee let out a small cry of agreement, and the two turned back towards the cave’s entrance.
As they made their way back a gate appeared before Kay. He immediately realized that a team had successfully defeated the Dungeon Leader.
“Looks like it’s time to leave, Eevee. We made it out safely this time.”
Exiting the dungeon, Kay made his way to the trade market. He carefully handed over the crystals he had collected from the dungeon.
The merchant counted them and handed Kay 150 Pokedollars. Steel Stage crystals weren’t very valuable; each one was worth only 10 Pokedollars, but it was still hard-earned money.
With the money safely tucked into his bag, Kay and Eevee began their journey back home.
The cool evening breeze brushed against Kay’s face as he pulled out his Pokedex to check Eevee’s stats and his overall progress.
But suddenly, the Pokedex screen went black, and then it started blinking faintly with a soft white light. Kay’s heart skipped a beat.
“What’s going on? Did it break?” Kay said while staring at the blinking device.
But then he remembered something he had heard from other trainers. When a Pokedex is about to evolve to its next level, it shuts down temporarily and starts blinking like this.
Kay’s worried expression melted into one of excitement. “So… it’s finally happening. My Pokedex is evolving.”
After returning home from the dungeon, Kay sat down with his family for dinner. The delicious smell of home-cooked food filled the air.
Eevee sat by Kay’s side, nibbling on a small bowl of berries that Reina had prepared for it.
As they started eating, Max, broke the silence.
“So, Kay, how was your first solo dungeon?”.
Kay paused for a moment, chewing his food before answering.
“It was good… easier than I had expected, honestly. But it was still way harder than going with a team.”
Max nodded in understanding. “That’s natural. But still, you gained far more experience this way than you would have if you were relying on others in a team. Every step you took in there was entirely your own.”
Kay sighed, leaning back slightly in his chair.
“That’s true… but the money I earned today was almost nothing compared to what I could’ve earned with a team. It feels like such a big difference.”
At that moment, Reina spoke up.
“Kay, money isn’t the most important thing in life. It helps, yes, but achieving your goals, your dreams… that’s what truly matters. And every step you take toward that goal is priceless.”
Kay looked down at his plate, a small smile forming on his face as he nodded in agreement.
“You’re right, Mom. Thank you.”
“Kay! What Pokemons did you see in the dungeon today? Were they scary? Were they strong?” asked Lara excited.
Kay chuckled at Lara’s excitement.
“I met two species of Pokemon today. The first was Mareep, an electric sheep Pokemon with fluffy wool that crackled with electricity. The second was Magnemite, a floating metallic Pokemon with magnets on its sides. Eevee and I managed to defeat many of them, didn’t we, Eevee?”
"Eevwee..." Eevee let out a proud cry, and Kay patted its head affectionately. Lara’s eyes sparkled even more, and she clapped her hands with excitement.
After dinner, Kay retreated to his room with Eevee following closely behind. He sat on his bed, pulled out his Pokedex, and noticed something.
The blinking light had stopped which means that the evolution to the next level had finished.
Kay opened the pokedex to check the new features. The screen lit up with a small notification:
“Congratulations! Your Pokedex has reached Level Two!”
