Kay opened the pokedex to check the new features. The screen lit up with a small notification:

“Congratulations! Your Pokedex has reached Level Two!”

Kay eagerly explored the new features. The only change was that Pokemon Stages were now divided into three substages: Inferior, Intermediate, and Superior.

‘So this is the upgrade…, it’s very useful.’ Kay muttered to himself as he leaned back against his pillow.

Then he checked Eevee’s profile one more time to see its substage:

Eevee:

Potential: Orange

Stage: Intermediate Steel

Moves: Tackle, Helping Hand, Wish, Bite, Sand Attack, Dig, Quick Attack

Kay then noticed that Eevee was in the second substage of the Steel Stage.

After a month of repeating the same routine, Kay had grown more confident in attacking F-rank dungeons alone.

He avoided deeper areas where stronger Pokemons roamed and focused on battles he and Eevee could handle.

Eevee had also learned a new move during this period; Double Team. Kay chose to let Eevee focus on this move because it was incredibly useful for evading enemy attacks.

A month and a half had passed since the day Kay found the egg in the Arcanine dungeon.

Recently, he began noticing that the egg was moving more frequently, with little twitches and wobbles becoming a daily occurrence. Kay realized that it was finally time; the egg was about to hatch.

Understanding the importance of being present when the Pokemon emerged, Kay decided to stop dungeon attacks temporarily.

He couldn’t risk missing this critical moment, as missing the moment of the hatch of a Pokemon meant that the bonding essay would fail for sure.

A week passed, and Kay spent his time taking care of Eevee and keeping an eye on the egg, making sure it stayed warm and safe.

One evening, while Kay was casually browsing general information on the web, a bright light filled the room.

The egg began to glow intensely, its warmth radiating outward. Kay’s heart started to race as he quickly closed his device and rushed to sit in front of the egg.

His palms were sweaty, and his breathing began to become short as he stared at the glowing shell.

"Eevee, stay ready. It’s hatching. In case something goes wrong, kill it instantly," Kay instructed Eevee.

His mind raced with doubts and fears. What if he couldn’t bond with the Pokemon? What if it attacked him? What if all the sacrifices he made to keep this egg were for nothing?

Cracks started to form on the smooth surface of the egg, faint lines spreading like spiderwebs across its shell. The glow intensified, and with one final sharp sound, the egg shattered.

A small, dog-like creature with bright orange fur emerged from the broken shell. Its body was marked with bold black stripes, almost like a tiny tiger.

Its fluffy tail curled elegantly, and its cream-colored mane looked incredibly soft and full. (Growlithe)

The little Pokemon blinked its large, innocent eyes at Kay, letting out a soft, curious bark.

The newborn Growlithe wagged its tail slightly and tilted its head at Kay. Kay reached out his hand cautiously, and the tiny Pokemon stepped forward, pressing its soft nose against his palm and sniffing Kay’s hand.

The moment Growlithe accepted Kay and gently pressed its nose against his palm, he knew the bonding was a success.

The small Pokemon didn’t show any signs of aggression or fear. Instead, it wagged its fluffy tail and barked softly, signaling trust and acceptance.

Kay felt pure joy flood his chest. His hands trembled slightly as he carefully picked up the little Growlithe and held it close.

The warmth of its small body and the gentle way it looked at him made all his worries disappear.

Kay’s happiness came from two main reasons. First, he now officially had a second Pokemon, something incredibly rare in their society, especially among F-rank trainers like Kay.

Trainers usually spent years, before being able to bond with a second Pokemon successfully.

Second, the Pokemon he bonded with was Growlithe, a strong and loyal companion.

Its evolved form, Arcanine, was known to be one of the most powerful and majestic Pokemon in existence.

Holding Growlithe gently in his arms, Kay couldn’t stop smiling. "We’re going to be an amazing team, right Eevee?.".

“Eevwee...” Eevee nodded in agreement.

Kay decided that this moment was too important to keep to himself. He wanted to share this joy with his family.

With Growlithe in his arms and Eevee walking proudly beside him, Kay walked towards the living room.

As he entered, he immediately noticed the tense atmosphere. His family was sitting on the couch, their faces filled with worry and anticipation.

Kay thought they knew about the hatching because of the strong light coming out from under his room's door.

His mother Reina was holding her hands together in silent prayer, his father Max was tapping his foot nervously, and his little sister Lara was biting her nails.

When they noticed Kay standing in the doorway, holding a small orange Pokemon with black stripes, their eyes widened.

"Everyone… it worked. This is Growlithe, my new Pokemon. The bonding was a success!"

For a moment, the room was silent. Then, Reina let out a joyful cry and rushed towards Kay, wrapping both him and Growlithe in a warm hug.

Max stood up with a proud smile, patting Kay on the back. Lara, unable to hold back her excitement, squealed and started hopping around.

"I knew you could do it, Kay!" Reina said, her eyes glistening with tears.

"We are so happy for you, son," Max added.

Lara leaned closer to Growlithe and said, "You’re so cute! Welcome to the family!"

Reina quickly suggested, "We must celebrate this moment! This is a huge achievement for Kay and our family!"

The family prepared a small party. Max brought out some sparkling juice, Reina prepared snacks, and Lara decorated the dining table with colorful cloths and ribbons.

That evening, the family celebrated together. Laughter and joy filled the house as they shared stories and food.

After the party ended and the house quieted down, Kay returned to his room with Growlithe and Eevee by his side.

The two Pokemon curled up on a soft blanket as Kay sat down on his bed and opened his Pokedex to check Growlithe's stats.

Growlithe:

Potential: Red

Stage: Inferior Steel

Moves: Ember, Double Kick, Helping Hand

When Kay saw the Red Potential, his eyes widened with excitement. Pokemon with Red Potential were incredibly rare and had the potential to growso powerful.

‘This Growlithe is going to be amazing… no, it already is amazing!’.

Then, his eyes landed on Growlithe's moveset. He chuckled softly when he noticed Helping Hand listed there.

‘Another Helping Hand? Haha, maybe this move will become my signature move one day,’ he thought with amusement.

As Kay was about to close the Pokedex, something caught his eye; a new change in the abilities section. His heart skipped a beat as he read the updated description of his ability.

Pokemon Master LV1:

The trainer can bond with the egg of Dungeon leaders if the trainer defeats them.

Limit: Three eggs.

(This ability can evolve.)

Kay's eyes sparkled with excitement as he re-read the description multiple times. This was huge. This ability wasn’t just powerful, it was game-changing.

‘This… this could make me one of the strongest trainers in the world,’.

He leaned back on his bed, his mind racing with thoughts. His two abilities, Egg Collector and Pokemon Master were like two halves of a perfect puzzle.

Without Egg Collector, he wouldn’t have been able to find the leader’s eggs in the first place.

Without Pokemon Master, he wouldn’t be able to bond with those eggs even if he found them.

‘They complete each other… it’s like they were meant to work together,’.

For a brief moment, he imagined a future where he stood at the peak of power, leading a team of incredibly strong Pokemons.

Then Kay reread the description for the third time, and this time he remarked something made him even more happy...
