I sat in the canteen of the Pokemon Centre with the Nurse and her Chansey.
‘Huh! I forgot to ask her name.’ I thought admonishing myself.
Before I could remedy my mistake, she asked.
“ How is the food?”
“ It’s delicious! What meat is this?” I exclaimed and asked.
Seriously, the food was incredible. The most expensive food on the earth couldn’t even be compared to what I am eating now.
“ Nothing special, just normal Pidgey meat.” She replied casually between bites.
I was startled, but I continued eating, trying to control my expression.
Chansey, the fluffy bundle of energy, finished her food and skipped away, waving at me. I smiled at the cute Pokemon.
To be honest, I half expected I was eating some Pokemon before I asked her. But still reading and actually experiencing it are two entirely different things.
I ignored my irrational guilty conscious and continued eating, it's not like I can do anything now, except kick a fuss– At least the taste is marvellous.
“ Don’t worry, the meat is from the Surge.” she said.
It seems she noticed my expression. Here I was hoping my non-existent acting skills were holding up.
“ Didn’t you used to eat meat before?”
“No, Grandpa thinks killing any Pokemon to eat is essentially killing off its chance to become sapient, thus killing a sapient being,” I said using my imaginary grandfather to express my opinion because I read that any Pokemon can become sapient.
The Nurse looked at me conflicted and spoke.
“Theoretically, all Pokemon can gain sapience in their life. But it’s just theory. ”
She continued.
“In the wilderness, the birth of Sapient Pokemon is a very rare occurrence. However, due to the vast number of Pokemon, a substantial number of Pokemon are sapient.”
“My point is that, if you are lost somewhere without food, the life of both you and your Pokemon takes precedence over other Pokemon, whose chance of becoming sapient is near zero.”
“ Only researchers call Pokemons which can have complex thoughts and control their typing energy to create a barrier, Sapient Pokemon. Trainers and the general populace used another word- awakened.”
“ I understand,” I said seriously, it's not like I was a saint or naive in my previous life. I know when people's lives are at risk, kindness is the last thing on anyone’s mind.
The assistants my parents also knew about my insane schedule, but they didn’t raise their voices afraid of antagonising the brilliant couple of the century, thus risking their jobs.
“ And killing Pokemon on the trainer routes is illegal, due to a pact between Awakened Pokemon and humans. The meat acquired due to the Surge lasts the whole year and there is always excess at hand,” she said.
I nodded and decided to search more about the pact.
After helping her with the dishes, I continued my preparation for the J.I.E.
….
I woke with a start and rolled off my chair. It looks like I fell asleep studying yesterday.
The remnants of my nightmare escaped my memory as I took in my surroundings.
A big smile graced my face as I remembered where I was, I started moving towards my room to freshen up.
After having breakfast with the nurse- whose name I forgot to ask, again- I opened my J.I.E book to see how much I remembered from my last night’s study.
Finding that I can remember 80% of what I read with high precision, I was shell-shocked.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
It seems that my memory power changed after coming here and I am going to cry if an average novice trainer from this world has the same memory power as me.
The Gengar from yesterday seemed to decide it was a good moment to scare me again and screeched from my back.
I turned around in surprise and saw the Gengar snickering.
Leaving my seat in anger, I tried to catch it. But it evaded me without even becoming invisible.
I chased after the Gengar angrily. But my anger was forgotten before I even left the System room and I tried to catch it off guard by analysing its movement, waiting for a chance.
Finally, I tricked it into following me around the corner. And just when I thought I was going to catch it.
It dematerialised.
I huffed and started walking back to the System room.
The Gengar again tried to scare me and there was something in Gengar’s voice that kept startling me no matter how prepared I was.
‘Some move maybe? And I don’t get angry this quickly before. Irritation Yes, but not anger never anger. Maybe Gengar used Taunt or something.’
‘Or I changed upon coming to this world, I was never expressive or considerate before due to my unique circumstances.’
The Gengar disturbed my line of thought again, trying to startle me.
I ignored its antics and moved toward the stairs as I came onto the second floor chasing the ghost.
I cautiously walked down the stairs, afraid of falling due to Gengar’s antics.
Suddenly, my mind went into some weird trance like state.
I felt someone watching me from above and I followed the feeling and looked above to see Gengar lazily floating and it looked surprised to see me notice it.
At least I think it was surprised.
My trance state snapped after I saw the Gengar and I suddenly felt I like was studying for a long time.
My mind became sluggish and I became tired physically too.
The Gengar floated down gently and sat on my head.
I let it be and thought about what just happened.
‘ That was Aura,’ I concluded rather easily.
It’s not like I know anything other than Aura to blame.
From what I remember, Aura helps in communication between Pokemon and Humans.
So, it makes sense it can help in finding Pokemon.
I sat on my chair in the system room with my eyes closed and tried to recreate the feeling from before with no success.
After trying for more than an hour, I started memorising the J.I.E book, feeling well rested.
…
It seems that I can remember things with 100% accuracy after reading the same thing at least three times.
And I noticed that I tire easily -mentally at least. It's like memorising stuff is consuming something.
I think it is Aura again, but without meeting some Aura users all I have are guesses.
If my memory power is a byproduct of Aura, I think I can get a good score in J.I.E.
I tried to make a schedule for the next two weeks to complete the J.I.E. portion, but the time was not enough. Even when I don’t take the time required to study for the Trainer’s License exam or the mental fatigue I accumulate into account.
It seems unlike every Isekai MC, I was not going to get first place.
My goal for J.I.E was scoring above 99.5 percentile as only with that score I can get a chance of obtaining an egg of an Elite Pokemon.
Unawakened Pokemon only mate in the 17th and 18th months of the year named ‘Grass’, and ‘Water’.
Only if both parents are awakened and are evolved two times, then the Pokemon inherit some moves from a parent or in a very rare case from both.
Eggs of awakened Pokemon in their second form like Arcanine of young age aren’t guaranteed to have egg moves. But each Pokemon line similar to Arcanine has an age limit after which their offspring will definitely have egg moves.
The scientists are trying to figure out other ways to measure the criteria passing on moves with little to no success.
The inherited egg move will make the control of respective typing energy easy. Thus, accelerating the growth of the Pokemon.
People who score above 99.5 percentile will be offered a chance to participate in mock battles with professional trainers. If the exam participant defeats the prof trainer or if the prof trainer acknowledges the participant's talent, then the participant can get an elite Pokemon egg according to their performance rating, not Kanto royals of course.
Those are only reserved for scorers above 99.9 percentile and they have to undergo more exams for that.
After accepting the fact that I was not going to complete perfectly memorising the whole syllabus before J.I.E.
I still decided to dedicate every waking hour to preparation and allotted an hour daily to relax which I decided to spend by playing with the Gengar, hoping to recreate the feeling from before.
Thus, I spent my days in the Pokemon Centre preparing to get a great starter for myself.
I want a great starter for myself. I don’t want a Rattata or Pigdey.
In the anime or some fanfictions, the MC can use a common Ratticate to defeat a Dragonite.
I don’t believe in that nonsense. I think nature is always balanced.
Let’s compare the Rattata line which lives in swarms and has high numbers with the Dratini line, which is considered rare.
If we say that both the Rattata line and the Dratini line have the same battle power or talent, we are indirectly saying that the Dratini line is inferior to the Rattata line as the Rattata’s are more in number compared to the Dratini.
Rattata is the most commonly found Pokemon in Kanto.
I for one think some Pokemon are more battle-oriented than others. The Dratini Pokemon, most of the Dragon type, lines ensure their survival with terrifying individual strength. Whereas Pokemon like Rattata forsake individual strength for strength in numbers.
Thus, making Dratini-type Pokemon lines more suited for battle.
The research here also supports my claims.
The high battle power of Dragonites is countered by their low birth rate and higher requirements for sapience.
Each type of Pokémon uses different stratagems to ensure their survival.
Same with the Gyrados line, where the Magikarps sacrifice battle power and chance of evolving. Which is compensated by the High battle power of Gyrados on evolution.
As is the case with any Pokemon, any difficulty they had to experience on the road to power is always rewarded with more power.
Each type of Pokemon has its advantages and disadvantages.
