Blood, Death, and Destruction

Blood, Death, and Destruction

Walking into the next room Coney found himself mildly disappointed. Not because there was nothing there, but because he’d clearly missed all the excitement. “Oh…” He said, a little bit disappointed, even as he pawed his sickle.

There in the middle of the room were his erstwhile companions, Eric and Briana. Both were cleaning their weapons, and there was a pile of bodies beside them. It was a large amount of green bodies, closer to his size, maybe goblins? Considering their current state of disrepair he wasn’t sure he could precisely tell what they were.

“Oh come on, you didn’t leave any for me?” Carrie asked, frowning at them with her hands on her hips. “I mean, I told ya it would be up there. You could have left me something to level up with!”

“No you didn’t, you were too busy helping the pet.” Briana said, waving a hand back at Coney. He blushed a little, shuffling from foot to foot. That wasn’t language he could easily deal with. He wasn’t sure why they were so easily ready to talk about him like that, considering they were players. It was weird, that’s all he could think as he walked forward towards them.

“Uhg, fine.” Carrie said, rolling her eyes. “I’ll do better later. Still, have you decided to go left or right.” She moved her hand and gestured at the wall behind the pair, and Coney followed the hand to see that there were in fact two ways. The way to the left had a soft silvery glow, while the one to the right was similar but golden.

“Well, I think I want to go to the right.” Eric said, waving a hand at the right entrance. “I picked up a couple stray coins at the door. They were lesser gold coins, which are still pretty good.” Briana nodded, standing behind him.

“Besides, it’s warmer in that direction, the left seems cold, almost… deathlike.” She said, frowning. “I don’t know about you, but I’ve dealt with enough cold in my life. I don’t wanna have to do it again. If there’s another option.”

“Well, I think the left is more promising.” Carrie said, standing at the left entrance. Her hand was running down what looked like a stalagtite, and with a slight shift she managed to push it and heard a click. “There are a bunch of traps in this direction. There has to be something special if it’s filled with that many traps, right?” She asked, her voice pleading.

“Maybe, but I still want to go right. If that direction has a ton of traps it’s easier to go this way anyway, right?” Eric asked, looking confident. “Besides, I’m bringing my girls with me. Don’t you all want to spend more time with me? You’re my harem to be!”

“If you wanna break off on your own, why don’t you?” Briana asked, glaring a little at Eric’s mention of a Harem. Her fingers dug into his shoulder, but if he noticed he didn’t bring it up.

“Wait wait wait.” Coney said, raising a paw. “Don’t you know, never split the party!” He said, clapping his paws. “That always goes badly.”

“Nah, don’t you worry about it.” Carrie said, lightly grabbing his shoulder. “Let's get going, and when we show up with more riches than them we’ll have bragging rights.”

“That’s if we survive…” Coney said, a little bit worried. “I-I mean…” He didn’t struggle as Carrie walked with him over to the left entrance, nor did he as the others walked into the right entrance. “Fuck…” He said, a bit of whine in his voice.

“Don’t worry sweetie.” Carire said, her hands lightly petting his ears. “I’ll not let you go alone.” She grinned with a catlike grin, and began to move ahead of him. “Now, watch out for traps.”

The entrance led to what looked like a cavern. They didn’t have a torch, but Carrie took out something instead, a very softly glowing stone. It had some kind of rune on it, but Coney couldn’t make it out in the darkness. It was nothing like what he expected, he could see the pale green light fill the cavern, though it still left a lot of shadow that he worried would be filled with monsters of some kind.

In the pale light Carrie often stopped, leaning down, touching things, and fixing traps. He didn’t often see them, but sometimes he would. Especially when they were less cleverly hidden. One time she disarmed a tripwire, and behind her was a large wooden log that had been primed to slam down like a hammer. It would have been effective, but damn if that wasn’t silly Coney thought.

The cavern was filled with stalagmites and stalactites, all of which glistened in an odd reflective way as they passed and moved the light. Walking up to one, he pressed his paw against it. There was a slight wetness on it, something that he wasn’t used to, the cold of water that’s never seen the sun. Still, they walked through, with Coney following Carrie’s trap sweeps.

Looking ahead Coney finally saw the final room. It was odd though, definitely silvery but it didn’t look like any sort of treasure room he’d ever seen in video games. There were no large piles of gold, no giant stacks of magical toys for him to play with. Honestly, the library and other Undercroft locations back at the abbey seemed to have been closer to what his preconceptions told him he’d need.

Finally they entered the room and it was oddly lit. The soft pale white light seemed to drown out the pale green light, despite not feeling much brighter. Coney couldn’t tell where it came from though, because the entire room was filled with mirrors, which bounced the light around it. It was odd, a hexagonal shape of mirrors.

Looking into one of the mirrors Coney saw himself, but it wasn't him that was standing there right now. He wasn’t wearing the robes of an acolyte, no in it he was wearing black robes and a large holy symbol. It was odd, tentacles enveloping a human looking skull. Looking closer he could see bones at his feet, and behind him… was an army. He stumbled back with a yelp.

“Uh, bunny…” Carrie said, reaching out and grabbing him. “This place is fucked up.” She said, lightly petting his shoulder. It was odd, but kind of comforting as he stood and stared into another of the mirrors.

In this one he was naked. The sickle that he currently wore was in his paw, and he saw that there was blood all over his body. In fact, the blood was replacing his clothes, covering his lower body from being seen. “W-What do you see?” He asked, leaning back into Carrie.”

“You don’t wanna know.” She said, sitting with her knees to her chest. “This place is freaky.”

“Is it blood?” Coney asked, wondering if he was seeing something similar.

“Yes. I see blood, death, and destruction.”
