Chapter 11: Raining on Mena's Parade

Chapter 11: Raining on Mena's Parade

Mena excitedly bounded sideways down the Cloud Wall. May ran as fast as she could trying to catch her but the young witch ran so fast she tripped.

"Whoooooa-y Zooooowie!" Mena screamed as she fell face first towards the pavement.

"Meeeeeena!" May said, stifling a cry.

The pavement was getting closer and closer and Mena was about to become a pancake lizard. But right before Mena hit the ground, she flipped upwards and landed on her feet. May jogged right down and caught up with her. Both were out of breath--Mena from the adrenaline and May from sprinting down the Cloud Wall.

"It sure was nice to have a magical wall here!" Mena giggled. "I wonder who put it here?"

May offered her a round faced smile. "Well, Gemini obviously. Mummy said that the headmaster is so powerful they bewitch the whole building to perform magic tricks like this!"

"Well..." Mena said. "I guess currently, Stella is the headmistress because Gemini is..."

The basic witch shook her head. "No. I mustn't think about that. Gemini is going to be fine... and...uh...I sure want some sweetmeat!"

Mena sped off, leaving poor May to chase after her again. "Come on, Mena," May pouted as she trailed after her. "Not even I'm that hungry!"

Mena tried her best to focus on the sweetmeat and not about her destiny. She pictured the red and white peppermint striped morsels that were both minty and meaty. "Nothing sweeter than sweetmeat!" she sang until she reached the Silver Cloud Machine in the Cloud Hall.

May puffed and panted, finally catching up with her. "Mena...huff...huff...not even Nebula makes us run this much in gym class!"

Mena was busy operating the machine and puffed out two more clouds for them. "Don't worry," she said. "Nothing but chilling and pigging out now!"

An ominous storm cloud containing Janus, and the Tessellation Twins hovered over them. Mena didn't even notice the shadow until it was too late. The young witch looked up and got blasted with a deluge of rain. Mena gargled a bunch of water and spit it out. She gasped. Her school uniform was completely drenched.

"Sorry to rain on your parade, peasant," the silver haired Laetitia sneered and she held her hand to her mouth. "Oh ho ho," the two twins chortled.

Janus was silent as she watched Mena drenched to the bone. The two twins shot glares at Janus. "Why aren't you chortling, Janus?"

The pixie reaper was quieter than the grave. Her bright purple eyes looked a bit sorry for Mena, but when the two twins glared daggers at her, she said, "Oh sorry, guys. I don't chortle. I giggle."

Janus managed a tiny giggle. A small 'tee hee' before the twins rolled their eyes.

"You 'ave a lot to learn about being condescending, skellybone," Laetitia sneered. "But that will do."

There was another round of chortles and giggles as they flew off. Mena was cold and soaked, but as her adversaries flew off, she raised her fist.

"Are you okay?" an equally wet May asked.

"Jaaaanus!" Mena growled with fire in her eyes. "When we find our best new super pal, we'll rain on your parade instead!"
