Percy Jackson: Why Does Rebirth Have To Be So Confusing?

I Gain Some Cool Powers I Don't Even Want

‘Hey! I am not obnoxious! Or bossy.’ Everyone standing in the bubble snorted at that. ‘And technically if you are calling me obnoxious, then you’re calling yourself obnoxious too. Because I am you and you are me. And since I am you, STOP CALLING ME A VOICE IN YOUR HEAD.’ With that point the voice in my- sorry Odysseus fell silent.

“You know, you really should stop calling him a voice in your head. It makes you sound insane.” Mnemosyne said.

“Maybe you should stop reading my mind .” I retorted.

Everyone was silent. Then Zagreus started laughing. “I knew there was a reason I liked him,” He said between laughs.

This time Mnemosyne really did slap him. “Ow!”

Nyx and Styx (Woah that rhymed) both laughed. Nyx’s laugh was a bit more sadistic than Styx’s.

Zagreus just glared at them, and said “Can we just get on with this whole weird rebirth thing that wasn’t even supposed to happen .”

I shifted guiltily. Everyone looked back at me. Nyx sighed and said grudgingly. “It’s not your fault Perseus. You had no idea this would happen.”

I looked at Zagreus. “What do you mean, ‘get on with this’?” I asked suspiciously.

He smiled pleasantly. “Well, for you to actually survive this, Styx and I have to bless you and make you our champion. And you get loads of cool powers!”

Styx and Nyx scowled. Mnemosyne laughed. I blinked.

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“What?!”

Nyx frowned. “You act as if you don’t want the power. What male doesn’t like power?” She looked contemplative.

Mnemosyne rolled her eyes. “I apologize for Nyx, she hasn’t had that good of an experience with guys.” If looks could kill, Mnemosyne would have died, the nanosecond she said that. Instead she just glanced apprehensively at Nyx’s glare then back at me.

“That is not his business! And it’s not even your business to share anyways, Mnemosyne.” Nyx said through gritted teeth.

She looked apologetic. “Sorry.”

I was hardly paying attention to them. They were going to make me their champion? Why? I don’t need more power! I don’t want more power!

‘More power is always good to have when you're in a fight’ The voice in- Odysseus said. I made a mental note to get used to calling the voice in my head Odysseus. I heard a triumphant huff, and smiled slightly.

“He’s right,” Zagreus said, with Mnemosyne and Styx nodding. “Like say you ever fell into Tartarus or something, you would need it to survive”

“Has that ever happened?” I asked, alarmed.

“What has? A mortal falling into Tartarus?” I nodded and he continued. “No mortal has ever stepped foot into Tartarus. I doubt it will ever even happen, anyways.”

Nyx didn’t look that convinced of this, like she knew something we didn’t.

‘And can you stop reading my mind!’ Odysseus yelled. I winced.

They all glanced at each other. Mnemosyne shrugged and snapped her fingers. I glowed briefly for a second before it faded away. “Now no one can read your mind through the barrier I put up. Well anyone except me. But you’ll have to learn how to make a barrier on your own soon,” She explained.

Nyx glowered. (No surprise there) Zagreus just looked disappointed, and Styx looked indifferent.

Zagreus smirked. “So… blessing’s?” He said mischievously.

Styx glared at him. Then looked at Nyx. “Do I have to?” she asked helplessly.

Nyx rolled her eyes. “Unfortunately, yes. If he dies, I’ll have to be the one to explain to Chaos, Ananke, and my daughter’s, why the future is messed up. He’s going to be a major player in the next few prophecies.”

‘Wait, prophecy’s as in plural? No no no. Please tell me there won’t be prophecy’s’ Odysseus complained. No one heard him but Mnemosyne, and she gave us a sympathetic look.

Styx grumbled in disappointment. “Can I also give you my blessing?” Mnemosyne asked me excitedly. “I’ve never had a champion before.”

“Uhhh-” Before I could finish, Zagreus cut me off.

“Of course you can give him your blessing!” he said roguishly.

I glared at him, about to open my mouth to refute that, but it was too late.

“Yay!” She squealed, clapping her hands together like an excited child.

She stuck her hands out and started chanting in greek. “ Εγώ, Mnemosyne, Titaness of Memory δίνω την πλήρη ευλογία μου στον Περσέα Τζάκσον, και τον ονομάζω πρωταθλητή της μνήμης και της μνήμης”

Her hands glowed faintly for a second before disappearing. I heard Mnemosyne say “Oh, and this might hurt a little,” before a giant wave of pain hit me making me stagger backwards. I had time to think ‘Thanks for telling me ahead of time’ sarcastically before I blacked out.
