Shellguard
----------------------------------------
Also known as the Stone Colossus, is a majestic yet fearsome creature of the ocean depths. Its enormous, six-meter-long body is covered with a hard, rocky shell, etched with wavy patterns that seem carved by time itself. This massive shell, closely resembling a dense mass of coral, allows it to blend seamlessly into the rocky seabed. The Shellguard is equipped with four powerful limbs, each ending in sharp claws capable of splitting rocks and piercing the toughest obstacles. Its massive head, with a short snout and deep-set eyes protected by an additional bone layer, is perfectly adapted to the extreme underwater environment, ensuring safety as it moves through harsh terrain.
The Shellguard, although not highly intelligent, possesses exceptional vigilance and a strong territorial instinct. During mating season, it becomes even more aggressive, fiercely guarding its domain and battling other males for dominance. Such encounters can be so intense that they cause local tremors, with echoes reaching the surface and unsettling nearby sailors. The Shellguard moves slowly, but its incredible strength compensates for the lack of speed. It uses its powerful jaws to crush crustaceans, mollusks, and smaller marine creatures, which form the bulk of its diet, though fish that come within reach also fall prey to this giant. Its massive claws allow it to split rocks and extract hidden morsels beneath.
Defeating the Shellguard is no easy task, as its rocky shell, besides being exceptionally durable, is also partially resistant to magic. The most effective strategy is to use weapons with high penetration power or earth magic capable of shattering solid structures. Experienced hunters use special explosive charges placed in the natural crevices of its shell to weaken the creature’s defense. Direct confrontation is highly risky – its enormous claws and physical strength are deadly. Each attempt requires precise planning and teamwork. There are records of groups that managed to defeat the Shellguard by surprising it during sleep, but its vigilance makes this a rare and uncertain method.

The Shellguard favors rocky marine terrain, especially coasts, underwater mountains, and areas filled with caves and crevices that offer natural shelter. It prefers zones with high geothermal activity, where warmer water enhances its activity. In such places, it establishes hunting territories, which it regularly patrols, especially during the mating season, aggressively defending the area from other members of its species and any daring trespassers who might unwittingly disturb the peace of this stone giant.
