13. Brother and Sister (?)

13. Brother and Sister (?)

The eventful dinner ended after the food was cleaned up. All of them entered the three’s stomach, which has become quite full.

“Jiao’er, what have you been doing for the past year?” Ye Ai Xia pulled the girl to her lap tenderly. Her eyes were watching the little girl with affection.

Ye Jiao tilted her head. “I’m learning how to climb a tree from Dad to pick fruit.”

“Climb a tree?” Ye Ai Xia shot a dagger to Ye Xiao. Seeing the gaze full of accusation, Ye Xiao raised his hand with a smile on his face. He did let the girl train to climb tree, but it was not to the extreme because he knew full well that it might endanger the girl.

“Yes. There are a lot of fruits on the tree, so Dad teach me how to get them,” Ye Jiao replied excitedly. At first, it was hard for her to climb, but she soon learned how to do them correctly. In her opinion, it was really fun as she could get a lot of fruits.

“I see. Remember to be careful, okay?”

“Yes!”

Ye Ai Xia caressed the girl’s hair. “Is there anything else?”

“I have the test for my talent,” Ye Jiao furrowed her brows as she recalled that experience. “The stone didn’t light up at all.”

“Ah,” Ye Ai Xia’s hand stopped for a moment. As Eon Energy master herself, she knew perfectly what it meant to have the stone didn’t light up. “It’s fine, Jiao’er.”

“But…” Ye Jiao was about to continue when she felt warm energy flashed from not far from her. Her eyes glanced to her father, which was sitting nonchalantly beside Ye Ai Xia. From his gesture, one might not realize that this man has just used his Eon Energy to create a barrier.

Ye Ai Xia looked at Ye Xiao with a frown on her face. “What’s that for?”

“That’s to prevent anyone from hearing our conversation,” Ye Xiao replied. “Except rank 4 masters, no one can break the barrier.”

Ye Ai Xia rolled her eyes. In this kingdom alone, the number of masters that had reached rank 4 could be counted with fingers. The barrier between rank 3 and 4 was simply too huge. Even those with high talent might not necessarily able to cross the barrier.

“So, that’s the barrier,” Ye Jiao looked at the faint light barrier around them. In her eyes, they looked exceptionally beautiful.

Hearing Ye Jiao’s comment, Ye Ai Xia’s eyes narrowed. People without talent should have never been able to sense Eon Energy, much less seeing them. But from the way Ye Jiao said it, it sounded as if she could see them clearly, something that she herself was unable to do.

“Xiao Ge, tell me that I didn’t hear it wrong.”

Ye Xiao smiled. “You didn’t hear it wrong, Xia’er.”

“She can practice.”

“Yes, even better than me.”

“Better than you?” Ye Ai Xia’s eyes widened as she glanced at her brother. “You’re a genius who has the purple colored talent, reach the rank 3 by the age of 16, but you say that she’s better than you?”

“Hey, do you forget that the purple looks slightly blue?” Ye Xiao chuckled. “If it’s really purple, I should have crossed the barrier by the age of 15 or even faster.”

“15? Are you a monster?”

“I might not have reached the qualification to be one,” Ye Xiao’s gaze landed on his daughter. He used sound transmission to tell his next words to his sister. “But she might become one.”

Ye Ai Xia’s eyes widened. If Ye Jiao truly did become a rare genius, no one would be able to look down at them anymore. The title and privilege that should have been Ye Xiao’s would be returned back and those who schemed at them would have to pay the price.

But, Ye Jiao has to grow up first.

And the process would be extremely long and arduous.

“I see, you’re really great, Jiao’er,” Ye Ai Xia hugged the girl tightly. “But more than anything, I want you to stay safe.”

“I’m okay, Aunt Ai Xia,” Ye Jiao smiled brightly.

Ye Ai Xia smiled wryly. “This child. Come on, Aunty will read you a story.”

“I want the story of how Dad won in the competition!”

“Ah, story of him again?”

“Yes!”

“Uh, Xiao Ge, what are you feeding her all these times?”

Ye Xiao didn’t answer as he dragged his feet to clean up the table. While he was cleaning, he could hear his sister bragged to his daughter of his prowess.

‘Geez, you didn’t want me to brag, but your story is praising me to the sky, Xia’er.’

Ye Jiao listened to the story Ye Ai Xia told her with enthusiasm. This was the routine when she stayed here because she loved to stay in Ye Ai Xia’s embrace and listened to the story that her aunt would tell her. After the fifth story, Ye Jiao’s eyelids become heavy, and she rested her head to Ye Ai Xia’s shoulder.

In the next few seconds, she fell asleep.

“She becomes more and more like you, Xiao Ge,” Ye Ai Xia commented when she saw Ye Xiao walked out with two fruits in his hand. He must have sensed that Ye Jiao had fallen asleep.

Ye Xiao. “She’s my daughter, so it’s obvious that she becomes like me.”

Ye Ai Xia lowered her gaze. “She’s also my daughter, dummy.”

“I know,” Ye Xiao’s gaze softened as he sat down beside his sister. On the outside, they were only a pair of brother and sister, but they were not actually brother and sister. They didn’t have any blood relation because they were childhood friends from different family. When Ye Ai Xia lost her family, his father took her in and added their family surname to the woman.

Eight years ago, there was a hidden scheme that he never realized until everything was too late.

He thought that his so-called ‘wife’ was the one who has his daughter. It was only later that he realized that it was actually his little sister. It was no wonder that that woman tossed him off right after Ye Jiao was born. The foolish him was blinded by love and tried all means to win her over.

At first, he thought that it was because of Ye Jiao’s poor constitution.

But it was not that at all.

In the first place, what that woman was to crush his heart and his hope. The coincidence that they couldn’t sense Ye Jiao’s talent only added fuel to the fire. In the end, they truly succeeded as they crushed his spirit, nearly sending him straight to his death.
